They only retired the jersey number of the late Bobby Phils who died in 2000. Alonzo and Johnson were the Hornets first franchise players. And Glenn Rice became their franchise players after he was traded to the Hornets.

**** no. They only stayed there for a few years and all they accomplished was a couple of all star and all nba appearances. The Hornets are just that much of a sorry ass franchise. At least Kemba's number will retired though.

For a big club, no, they did not accomplish anything serious enough.
For a small market team, yes, they need this.

Technically they aren’t part of the franchise’s history. The current Hornets were originally an expansion team as the bobcats then changed to the hornets.

The original hornets moved to New Orleans and eventually changed to the pelicans. Not sure it really matters but maybe that makes a difference.
