My initial reaction is that this is a particularly bad signing both for on court fit and for off the court chemistry. Dion Waiters is probably one of the dumbest guys still in the league. It could be considered high reward and low risk because you could make the argument that they could just cut him, but why even entertain the potential distraction this deep into the season? That's the key factor in all of this for me. They're too deep into the season and the probability of upside isn't worth it.

This isn't a Rasheed Wallace to the Detroit Pistons situation where the guy clearly has the talent, if it works out, to put you over the top and is worth the gamble because it's obvious you have no shot at the championship without him. The Lakers have enough talent right now to win it all. I don't think they will, but they already had enough prior to this signing to potentially do it. Dion Waiters is no Rasheed Wallace, for multiple reasons.

Unanswered questions, for me, specifically are as follows...

1) Does Waiters act a fool as he literally always has prior to now?
2) Does Waiters have enough maturity and is he finally honest with himself enough to realize the seriousness of his situation in terms of having a continued career in the NBA or more specifically, not having a furthered NBA career, if this blows up?
3) Can he co-exist with LeBron on the court?

From my perspective, this is easily the most puzzling move the Lakers have made all year long.

He's a solid player that was held back by shit coaching.

He will flourish on the Lakers

Waiters reportedly celebrating by sharing some edibles with the team

Bad as a starter? Yes. 8-10th guy off the bench? He gives us exactly what we need.

Nah, you're overreacting.
This is a solid addition by the Lakers.
Dion is gonna get in line just like the other headcases that became team mates with LeBron. Look at JR, Lance, Javale, Dwight, Beasley, etc.
If he's lucky, and balls out, he's gonna get paid too. "LeLeader". :lol

Lakers are still not done making moves!! https://www.silverscreenandroll.com/2020/3/5/21167232/lakers-rumors-add-another-shooter-after-dion-waiters-addition-free-agent-jr-smith-roster-cuts-agency

Man if they add Jr Smith, Clippers are more than done

Waiters is trash...at best he can be another ball-handler for 5 minutes while Lebron is out.

Really the Lakers can't get better than what they already are REALISTICALLY with their roster and salaries...which is what I was saying at the beginning of the year when people wanted to trade Kuzma...no team is just gonna GIVE the lakers another very good player for little back

The Lakers have a guard and big man rotation already...if they want to truly win a chip then AD/Lebron will have to be putting up 28-30ppg in the playoffs.

I don't think that's necessary. Waiters already handles the ball well and we still have to see playoffs Rondo in action.

But Lance would still be an upgrade over Cook

No he wouldn't, this poster is dumb as hell. Cook provides great value as an elite shooter from the PG spot...Rondo and Lance would cause the floor to shrink even more playing next to Lebron.

With the deadline having passed, they're taking a shot in the dark with Dion. Best case scenario, you get a motivated guy who can score off the bench and play above expectations. We all know he's a talented dude... You just have to hope he checks his ego at the door and accepts his role.

If not... You bench his ass or just outright waive him.

The guy doesn't have too many chances left in the league imo. That alone should be a fire under his anus.
