View Full Version : I don’t understand Lebron’s case for MVP

Giannis is actually the best player in the regular season and has the better record without Anthony Davis.
My advice? Give Giannis MVP and stop the regular season due to coronavirus. It’s not going away. Only do playoffs if things get better.

Lebron doesn't seem to be gunning for MVP and high scoring, he's just been putting his team in the best position to win. Plus he already has a treasure chest attic full of MVP's. Regular season MVP's are best suited for underwhelming playoff stars like Curry, Westbrook and Kobe

Why are people making such a big deal about a virus? Unless you are in a nursing home it isn't much of a threat. I give no fs about it at all.
The MVP award isn't really about the best player. It is more about the best story among the top players. Lebron certainly has a case. Lakers were garbage before he came and now they are legit title contenders. Nobody has ever had a season like this in year 17.

It's literally the best player on a 1 or 2 seed 99% of the time. End scene.

The news exists to get viewers and clicks like everything else.
If this virus killed as many people as the flu does every year the resulting panic would possibly shut down the country.
Flu killed over 500,000 people in like 2009 and people won’t even get vaccinated....

Then you a dummy. Turn on the news.
I follow the news every day. There are 10s of thousands of people who die of flu every year but people are just trippin about this virus because it is new.
The only people seriously effected have been old or have pre-existing conditions making them more at risk. It isn't much of a threat to a reasonably healthy person.
Kids dont even seem to be effected by it hardly at all. Smarten up.

You are repeating the same spiel that others are that aren’t concerned. It’s an excuse to avoid responsibility.
You’re acting like old people don’t matter. Many have families. To you, they’re old and gonna die one day so it doesn’t matter.
The flu has been around a ling time so had had more time to spread throughout history. This is 19 times worse than the flu. The doctors say it can cause irreversible lung damage. Flus can be bad but most aren’t life threatening.
19 times worse? Says who, the tabloid? We don't have accurate numbers on how many people actually have it so there is no way to conclude it is "19 times worse". That is just idiotic.
It is absolutely a threat to people in nursing homes but why is everyone else swarming Costco? It's crazy.
I am old myself but i am not even remotely worried about this.

Most people with this virus are no worse off than having a cold. It’s not anyone’s opinion that most people who get it are fine. It’s a fact. The extreme vast majority get past it doing nothing but treating symptoms with over the counter medicine for a few days.

You saying people are dropping like flies doesn’t actually make the mortality rate high. People like you are just determined to be afraid regardless of facts.

Don't spread misinformation. The 2009 flu was the Swine Flu which was a mutation we weren't prepared for. Just saying "the flu" is disingenuous. Aside from that, COVID-19 has a much higher mortality rate than even the swine flu, never mind the regular flu.
The mortality rate for the swine flu was 0.5%... or... 500 people for every 100,000 infected.
The mortality rate for the regular seasonal flu is 0.1%... 100 people for every 100,000 infected. Additionally, each person carrying the flu will infect roughly 1.3 people around them.
The mortality rate for COVID-19 is now officially being reported as 3.4%. Additionally, each person carrying COVID-19 will infect roughly 2.2 people around them. That's 3,400 people for every 100,000 infected with a higher rate of spread.
There is a staggering difference, mathematically speaking.

People are dropping like flies. The doctor in China isn’t old and he died.
4,800 people have died from the flu in the US this year.
Flu deaths up in the new year: CDC
Flu deaths are up more than 65% so far in 2020, with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reporting that 4,800 people had died and 87,000 people had been hospitalized.

Yet people are "dropping like flies" from this new virus? Whatever.

I might add that if one of the guys at the WHO is correct and that 60% of the globe is going to contract it, we're looking at 157,080,000 deaths worldwide, assuming 3.4% death rate.
Let's say you drop that down to 1% because you believe the media is exaggerating in some conspiracy, that's still 46,200,000 deaths worldwide.

"Officially reported" by who? Some clueless talking head?
We have absolutely no clue how many people have it so there is no way to calculate the mortality rate. Math 101.

The flu has never been one thing. It’s in multiple forms and that has been understood for some time. And it does in fact kill tens of thousands to hundreds of thousand of people yearly. If you called the flu something else for a year it would be considered a borderline plague.
You are telling me 97% of people recover in a discussion with a guy saying most flu cases aren’t life threatening. Obviously....97% is well into “most”.
To put it simply...you get it...you’re probably gonna be fine unless you were already compromised somehow. Much like the flu.

Correct. The flu mutates which is why vaccines are only partially effective. That article i quoted said the flu vaccine was only 29% effective in 2018/19 in preventing the flu.

The death rate is a hell of a lot higher for COVID-19 then the regular flu. We still know hardly anything about this virus or proven ways to treat it or produce any vaccines. It's starting to exponentially show up in different parts of the world.
That is why it is such a big deal.

well Lebron James stats by team % versus Giannis stats by team %
points, 22%, rebounds, 17%, assists, 41% versus points, 25%, rebounds, 26.5%, assists, 22%
by the PER formula, there could be a weighted measure where these numbers could be added up, but for the sake of going with raw numbers
Lebron is
0.0153 * 47/13 (.783%) = 0.012007
Giannis is
0.0146 * 53/9 (.855%) = 0.012483
plus Giannis's contract makes him more valuable in the dollar sense, and thus the lag continues

People arent treating it at all and the extreme vast majority still recover quickly. Its being "treated" with Robitussin, Tylenol, and a couple nights of good sleep by people who dont even realize what it is. There is no dedicated treatment....and people are still getting past it like a common cold.
Its a "big deal" because we are in a media/internet age that thrives on the story of the day.
As I said....if you called the flu something else for just one year the death toll and resulting panic would make this look like nothing.
If the flu from 09 that killed half a million had been called the Human Blight or something it would be remembered like it brought humanity to the brink of extension.

That's a good question.
I also don't think Coronavirus is a 12 Monkeys doomsday virus. Every several years something like this comes out, infects a few million people and kills thousands, and everyone on a planet of almost 8 billion people loses their minds over it.
But I also think Lebron isn't winning MVP.

Nor should he outside of 'storyline' reasons because of the mileage. Giannis is the most dominant two way player in the league, has the stats edge and the team record edge. He doesnt have a top 5 teammate. If anyone votes for someone else it can't have much to do with what's happening on the court. Now for all we know Boston or Toronto walls off the rim and we see a repeat of the series vs the Raptors last year but for the * regular season*, he is quite comfortably the MVP.
I’ve heard people in the media say that Giannis has more help and that “Vogel is no Budenholzer.” It’s absolutely absurd. There’s pretty much no argument for Lebron.

There never was a case for Bronie to win MVP in 2020. He wasn't even the most valuable on his own team. It's been proven multiple times now that no AD, no playoffs.
On the other hand, no Lebron, no difference.
