Had he stayed fit, he would have been squarely in the conversation about the best ever. Longevity is the only thing that he lacks.

Bird was being discussed as the best player of all time by '82. Erving lit him up early in his career, though. Larry is one of the first players to have a jay from that deep (some predecessors being Jerry West, and fellow Celts Bill Sharman and Pete Maravich), especially so consistently reliable while being so contested, and his passes look so natural and effortless. He knows where he wants the ball before he's even received it.

Some folks think 1981 is the best era for the sport.

So he didn't take care of his body, ate and drank whatever and lacked discipline? Typical soft boomer.

Refs were HORRENDOUS back then. Good thing Joe six pack at home was only watching an over the air grainy CBS feed. He didn't know wtf was going on other than what Dick Stockton was telling him was happening.

What has that got to do with 50/50 calls that went the Celtics way?

Plenty of charges could have been called on Bird.

Home cooking.

God

Should be Sixers' dynasty stricken by injury.
