TLDR: down the stretch of tight games (last 5 minutes within 5 points), Lebron shot 41% on 3.0 attempts per game for his career (04-19'), compared 47% on 3.6 attempts for old MJ in 97' and 98' (20% more clutch attempts on much better efficiency).

CLUTCH - Playoff shots in last 5 minutes, within 5 points, since 2001

134-323 for Lebron.. 41.4%
108 games.. 3.0 attempts per game

Jordan 1997 Playoffs (https://stats.nba.com/players/clutch-traditional/?sort=PTS&dir=-1&Season=1996-97&SeasonType=Playoffs&PerMode=Totals): 20-39.. 51.3% (11 games)
Jordan 1998 Playoffs (https://stats.nba.com/players/clutch-traditional/?sort=PTS&dir=-1&Season=1997-98&SeasonType=Playoffs&PerMode=Totals): 22-50.. 44.0% (14 games)

42-89 for MJ.. 47.2%
25 games.. 3.6 attempts per game

And 0-8 in the championship for Lebron, compared to 4-8 for Jordan

MJ scored 45 of the Bulls 86 points. That's 52%. You can look it up but I would guess the 1998 finals pace was one of the slowest ever. Vast majority of points in half court sets, no easy buckets. Buckets were at a huge premium.

What MJ did in his 2nd 3 peat took him from clear GOAT to a God like figure. That last minute sequence would be rejected by Hollywood.

Another thing most people don't realize is that Jazz had HCA. So if MJ doesn't do what he does here, they go into game 7 with a hobbled Pip and anything can go. But only because MJ prevents worse scenarios do people assume he had weak comp.

This is the same Jazz team that DISMANTLED Shaq, Kobe, Jones, Van Excel, Horry, Fish, Fox, etc in 1997 and 1998. You don't do that type of sh*t by being a weak team. Those Laker teams were stacked to the gills.

This + the famous push off + the multitude of other bullshit calls going in the Bulls favour that series :facepalm

despite any questionable calls, mj still had to get the last steal and last 2 buckets to win - only MJ had to do that to win

It was amazing watching this guy play live. Must watch TV throughout his career with the Bulls. You never knew what you'd see. Any night he could go for 50, make an unbelievable shot or a once-in-a-lifetime move, hit a gamewinner or give the world an iconic career defining game.

It's hard to determine the career defining moment for MJ. Is it the ending sequence that secured the 6th championship? Is it the (stomach) flu game? Is it averaging 41 in the Finals? Is it the 69 and 18 game? Is it 63 in the Boston Garden? Is it the six 3's by halftime of a Finals game? Is it The Shot against Cleveland? There is no consensus.

MJ was must watch every year like Steph Curry was in 2016.

One of the most crucially bad refereed games of all time

Jazz the clear favorite for the title without it

Disgusting times back then.

Vomit-inducing for any good human beings that care about righteousness.

An asterisk if I ever saw one.

Luckily we can account for these things, and know MJ is only a true 5-time champion because of it.

If you're going to talk about poorly officiated games here, then i guess nothing comes close nor beats the lakers matchup against the sacramento kings in game 6 of the 2002 wcf. So by looking at that, i guess kobe and shaq also have only won 4 and 3 nba titles then, respectively.

Jordan is obviously the most complete great player of all-time from a standpoint of a dominant peak but I'm not a fan of 90's ball. Such a slugfest. Bad shooting, too much defense. Free throws earned like a FG... nah. Such slop!

They also beat the Hakeem-Clyde-Barkley Rockets and the Duncan-Robinson Spurs. For those whole playoffs, they literally faced the last 2 championship teams and the next 2 championship teams. Not sure that has ever happened.
