Let's share what TV shows we're watching on a daily basis.

And which season you're on. No need to name the exact episode, but... maybe mention "Early season 2" or "middle of season 3" etc.

And with NO SPOILERS, mention how good the season is, maybe. Even with just a quick word or two.

I believe Narcos is more fictional on purpose. But I do agree, ZZZ is way more accurate. Actually, the special forces cartels is based on Los Zetas, and the Brothers Leyra are based on the real life Gulf Cartel brothers "Leyva".

It's a great show, I hope they follow it up with a season 2 or do a mini series with a different story.

Hi all. And feel free to share NON-SPOILER stuff about the show just in terms of how you're liking the season of that show so far, etc. Like, don't even HINT at spoilers... just..... if you're in early season 2 of a show, say how much you like the show so far. Just toss a breadcrumb out there so people know what they might want to get into as well.

Or maybe... rate that episode. Or rate that part of the season so far. Maybe that's even better.

Episode from Red Dwarf, it's a treasure of British comedy.
If you've never heard of this wonderful gem of a show, it follows "The adventures of the last human alive and his friends, stranded three million years into deep space on the mining ship Red Dwarf."
Red Dwarf combined all the keen wit of British humour with well-constructed sci-fi fueled plots.
A Sampler: The Emmy Award winning episode: Gunmen of the (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvtxQZTvoE0) Apocalypse (https://onplanners.com/invitations/bridal-shower) (somewhat sped up, meaning slightly higher pitches voices).

It was great, surprised with the production value, looks great in 1080p. How many seasons is it going to run? I think it should go up to the release of Wu-Tang Forever (1997). Cover Meth's, Rae's, GZA's and Ghostfaces's first solo albums at least.

Also downloaded What We Do in The Shadows, looks decent, I saw the movie years ago.

as far as my favorite shows right now:

Succession (really picks up in season 2, easily the best show of 2019)

Not many people will like it, but 'Black AF' is great.

It's basically Blackish but on steroids. It pulls no punches and explores the same themes on a different light. The writing on it is quick, sharp, witty, clever, it's basically a non-stop line after line after line that you got to pause and rewind to catch everything that was said.

My wife and I each pick a show to go through that the other liked and the other hasn't seen.

Right now I've got her watching Silicon Valley (two episodes left) and she's got me watching Scandal (about to finish Season 2).

I find it funny that we both picked shows where the central protagonist is a genuinely awful human being. Richard Hendricks and Olivia Pope are both horrible.

I wound up paying Amazon for the first two seasons of Cobra Kai over the weekend. I finished season one. After watching all three of the original Karate Kids with my niece over the last few weeks, it tweeked my nostalgic tendencies. It was way better than I expected. It falls into more of a teen high school drama for stretches, which it doesn't do great, partly because it probably doesn't have the best set of cast to pull off that job. But when the focus is on Johnny Lawrence / Daniel Larusso relationship reviewed from a different angle, it's really clever. And the cheesiness of it definitely has a winking at the camera aspect to it. I look forward to starting season two.

On Rome season 1 and Fargo season 1.

Oh my ****ing Jesus are these shows good in so many levels.

Rome is a genius psychological drama. Really shows human nature in an interesting, extreme, but not even caricature way at all. The women are ruthless over love. The men ruthless over pride, ego, and honor.

Mark Antony might be my favorite character ever.

But favorite characters have to be like favorite kids or some shit.

Lester Nygaard and Lorne Malvo are just GENIUS characters. I never see Martin Freeman in anything huge but this guy did the best acting I’ve ever seen on TV.

Lester is a classic asshole who simply never learned how to actually act on instinct so he was a perennially miserable nice guy. But really at heart he’s an autistic alpha male. It’s genius.

Lorne is just the scariest fictional character without superpowers I think ever.

Timeless, genius shows. I’ve never watched the Fargo movie I have to watch it one day.

I'm watching Lovecraft Country and it's been OK. It's got some interesting parts, but other times it reminds me of the bad parts of True Blood, in that it's just too hokey. The supernatural element is a bit over the top, with that piece of the story being too convoluted. The allegorical racist stuff is a bit extreme. There's some cool body horror in it though. This most recent episode was really good.

I caught a few minutes of The Third Day on HBO last night, and I'm intrigued by it. It's an isolated cult type thing off the coast of Scotland I'm guessing. It feels like a Celtic version of MidSommar, with the cultists not being quite as overtly strange. But I haven't really gotten into it yet.

I'm also actively watching The Boys as they release on Amazon. The most recent episode I liked a lot more than the first three, as they were sort of setting up the season with those first three I guess. I'm not thrilled with the not releasing the whole thing method they're going with. But it's still a really entertaining show.

Fargo is one of my favorite series ever, I own the first two seasons on Amazon, and I can't wait for this next season to start in a few weeks.

Lovecraft Country devolved into being nearly unwatchable.

The Undoing on HBO is turning into an excellent limited series, particularly if you're into the whodunit sort of genre, where they dole out new info every week, usually of the unsuspecting kind.

Fargo has been excellent as well. Not quite as good as previous installments, as it's taken a bit too long to tie the multiple threads together, which is always sort of the point of the series.

Just finished Happy! season 1 and it was an easy 10/10.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4gFlDn6c0c

If you havent heard of it (seems like most people havent, including me until a few days ago), the show is a very dark comedy about a little girl who gets kidnapped by a cabal of elite pedophiles who control the rest of society by blackmailing influential people. The little girl sends her imaginary friend (a flying unicorn) to find her father and get him to come rescue her. The father is an asshole disgraced ex-cop who is basically trying to drink himself to death and has only ever been good at doing one thing - beating the shit out of people.

While that probably sounds like an absurd premise, the writing and acting are extremely well done, especially the degenerate ex-cop who is played by Christopher Meloni (the fact that his main claim to fame is playing a cop on the sex crimes version of Law and Order is almost too perfect). Honestly I am kind of surprised the show even got made, considering how the villains are all cast/written/acted in a way that seems to suggest they are members of a certain group of gods chosen people (a group that is very influential in hollywood and often quite sensitive about being portrayed in a negative way), as well as how much the story seems to be inspired by recent so-called conspiracies like Epstein and Pizzagate.

Its not a show for the squeamish or faint hearted, the violence and subject matter often reach a level of darkness that makes a show like The Boys look like Sesame Street in comparison.

I'm also enjoying Your Honor. It's been a little spotty in connecting all the dots in a way that makes it feel like it's been overedited for time. For example, the son's thing with the teacher is on and off from really intense to just not even addressed from episode to episode, and it's got almost not backstory.

But overall I think it's really good. Michael Stuhlburg who plays the mob boss Jimmy Baxter is a guy I've liked in that type of role since he was Arnold Rothstein in Boardwalk Empire. He's generally good in everything, but he's really good as this guy who's seething under the surface and might explode. The writing of the plot device is really good, as he continues painting himself in corners that seem impossible to get out of, but every episode they fairly realistically write their way out of it (something of a Breaking Bad effect). I think it would be improved if they were able to upgrade the son, who to me has been so so at best so far.

The Good Place, finally doing season 4 and it is fun.

I started The Good Place a week ago and have ripped through three seasons. I really like it. It's just light and breezy enough to be a quick watch without sacrificing any cleverness at all. It sort of feels like it's getting more and more convoluted, and probably was never intended to get much beyond season one, with the exception of the concept of season two as a big finale. But you're right, it's just plain fun, in spite of whatever issues I have with it.

I really love Mare of Eastown. I think it's the best of this type of thing that's been out in a while. Because it's a limited series, it feels like it's pushing the pace, which doesn't make the red herrings feel as dragged out and yielding that "wha wha" trumpet sound. It's really a spectacular bit of world building too. The town feels and it's townies feel super real, and can stand up to the amount of plot that gets pushed through. I had it pegged as the best version of The Killing, which I liked, but eventually it collapsed on itself. Much of the first season of that show though is really good. This is a much better version of that. But after the latest episode, I think it's upside is even higher than that now. It's nearing True Detective level stuff at this point. I really look forward to these last two episodes.

I've also been on Jackie Rohr and City on a Hill since the get go. I really enjoy that too. I preferred the first season, but this year has been plenty good. And Jackie really is a great character. It does an excellent job with the era specific stuff too, which seems strange to say about the early to mid nineties, but it really is a different thing.

It's nice that they're on at different times on Sunday Night. It feels like it's been a while since I had that consistent Sunday night shutdown show, and now it feels like I've got two. But it's Mare that has me checking the clock to see how much time is left in the episode. That's the sign of something I'm really digging.

They have a connection too. Mare's grandson's mother is played by Sosie Bacon, Kevin's daughter with actress Kra Sedgewick.

The Last of Us in season two has been greatly disappointing minus the fort scene to me. How they handle Joel was fine compared to the game. I never played the game, but I know how Part I and Part II's story went. Was I a big fan of what happened to Joel in Part II? Nah, but that's part of the story and it's something you have to deal with internally. I didn't hate what they did in the game to Joel because not everything has to have a happy ending or a bow tied in a perfect knot. Sometimes life just f*cking sucks and you and lose people that are important to you before you'd want to.

I never liked or disliked Bella Ramsey playing the character Ellie. I think people taking a shit on her just because she doesn't like her from the game is shallow and short-sighted. Most of it comes from men. I think what the writers did wrong was the portrayal of Ellie in the show versus the game. In the game she's more naïve, needs more protection and has actual young girl traits where it's obvious she needs a father figure in her life. And that was the best part of about her and Joel's relationship because they filled in each other's gaps. He made her more independent and sure of herself and she made him softer and brought out his humanity. In the show Ellie is a c*nt, already sure of herself interrupting all the time and Joel is often passive and just takes it from her and oftentimes just goes along with her. Their dynamic in the show is completely different than in the game.

My biggest issue with the show in Season 2 is how much more woke they went. Especially in Episode 4. Ellie saying "I'm going to be a dad." was absolutely forced, made no sense in the moment especially considering that her and Dina just had hooked up the previous night. It was just so stupid and now I'm on the fence if I should even consider watching the show any longer. I knew what they were going to do to Joel and I expected it and didn't hate it, but the way the writers and Druckmann has changed Ellie into this woke dad wannabe is just forced. We have enough of that bullshit forced down our throats already.
