Meanwhile big bad white man USA is falling right before our eyes.
People (https://news.yahoo.com/orleans-epicenter-coronavirus-mardi-gras-211130247.html) didn't take the outbreak seriously.
Health experts say it's no surprise that New Orleans is the center of the coronavirus crisis in hard-hit Louisiana after over a million people flocked to the city to celebrate Carnival for more than a month, culminating in Mardi Gras at the end of February.
"It is still impossible to know exactly how long the COVID-19 pandemic will impact Louisiana, but what we do know is that we have more cases per capita than every state, except for New York and Washington," Edwards said Tuesday. On Sunday, he issued a stay-at-home order to slow the rapid rise of cases.

This is the only explanation that makes sense to me. The American experts saying you don't need to wear a facemask if you aren't sick sound as if they are only saying it so that more masks become available for health workers.

If we don't learn some lessons from this pandemic, we never will.
States need to have a surplus of PPE, there are doctors wearing garbage bags right now in NY ffs because they are low on PPE, in the biggest city of the world's richest nation that should not be happening. There should be stockades of surgical masks to hand out to every citizen and make them mandatory to use also. That helps the infected from being so contagious and also helps from not being infected so easily.

On the average day, ~7500 people die in america, about 2/3 of them senior citizens. The 5 most common causes of death for seniors are heart disease, cancer, stroke, chronic respiratory disease, and pneumonia. If you tested every one of the ~5500 seniors who die on the average day for the 30+ known strains of coronavirus (aka common cold), a large number would test positive for at least one strain of corona (some of them would be carrying more than one strain). A large number of these seniors would also test positive for at least one strain of flu. Despite the fact that large numbers of these ~5500 would test positive for strains of corona and influenza, under normal circumstances these viruses would not necessarily be considered to be the actual cause of these deaths. Typically when we define a persons cause of death, what we do is look at the entire sum of a persons life - if you smoked cigarettes for 50 years, got lung cancer, received chemo and a major surgery, and then ultimately died of a staph infection, your cause of death would be cancer brought on by a lifetime of smoking... we certainly would not place 100% of the blame on the staph infection that ultimately ended things. Now consider that 98% of supposed covid victims have at least one pre-existing illness and 50% of victims have 3 or more pre-existing illnesses, and yet all of these deaths are being attributed to the virus.
Currently with covid, we are testing almost all of the ~7500 americans who die every day to see if they have one specific strain of the common cold, and if they test positive we are attributing their death to the virus. Covid was first dected in the US on January 20th, and as of today we have about 730 americans who were "killed" by covid (except the majority of these people were not actually killed by covid, it was simply a contributing factor in their death). Consider that even if you want to use this laughably inflated and flawed method of counting covid deaths, the total number of dead americans who tested positive for covid is only 1/10th of an average daily death toll in this country... in the 66 days since covid was first detected in the US, ~500,000 americans (mostly seniors) have died for other reasons.
Ultimately covid is just a strain of the common cold that happens to be backed by a very slick marketing campaign.

All of this really just depends on how you wanna spin it. TB still kills well over a million people a year. Malaria about half a million. ****ing diarrhea kills about a million due to the resulting dehydration. It doesnt take much to kill a lot of people when you have a population of 7 billion and most are poor. And as Nanners implied its kinda hard to put numbers on it with so many of the dead already sick and old. When you have 3 things and catch a 4th that makes the others worse...what killed you? If I beat you with a crowbar, another guy stabs you in the chest, you are already 68, fat, and on 4 medications, and another guy comes and shoots you in the back as youre trying to get up from the beating and stabbing.....wouldnt all 3 be charged with murder?
We are charging the shooter and ignoring the fact that the guy probably dies soon anyway.
Its a shitty way to put it but im not sure of a non shitty way to say it.
Obviously...take it serious enough to limit the infection rate of those at risk. Im not saying go out and spread a disease that kills the weak and a few of the strong. Im saying....when 4 things combine to kill you maybe the people telling the truth about it arent evil. Just.....honest.
Honesty can in this case provide a sense of safety that may be problematic since some will refuse to do whats right but still.....
Does that make it wrong to tell the truth? A truth that doesnt help is still true. And its absolutely true that this isnt nearly as devastating as a number of conditions we dont panic over because we are used to them.
The main impact seems to be on the healthcare industry and workers who get overwhelmed taking care of people who will for the most part be fine. And thats an issue. Its serious and does justify reporting.
But like I said....there is truth in the "But what about....." argument.

Clearly people here STILL aren't taking it seriously. The appeals to current numbers are silly because EXPONENTIAL GROWTH. A couple of months ago Trump was brushing away the problem because there were only 15 cases. Now there are tens of thousands.
Saying people in their 70s die all the time is just as dumb. We are all fated to die. 100% of us. Does that mean we shouldn't take precautions and avoid high risk activities while alive?
In the past American wars even at their worst didn't kill as many as the flu does each year. Does that mean wars should be treated like the flu? Should the risk of a nuclear war be dismissed because wars in the past don't show the casualty levels a nuclear war would be estimated to cause?
The country is complacent. Americans are spoiled. The country hasn't experienced a true disaster of this potential scale on home soil in a couple of generations. Doctors in ERs are telling you this is different. Yet the denial is still palpable. This will be a bad wake up call.
Then again maybe it won't change anything since people have been rationalizing indifference for years now. It's only a problem for immigrants. It's only a problem for blacks. It's only a problem for the poor. It's only a problem for students. Now it's only a problem for the elderly. It's a problem for anybody but you—until it becomes your problem. Just hope anybody is left who bothers to care when it does.

You're trying to redefine your own fine print definition of what it means to die to complications from a disease.
It's no different than someone dying from complications to AIDS and then saying "well HIV akchualy didn't kill them, it was a pneumonia or infections that did. So it doesn't count" No dude they died from AIDS lol. T-Cell count plummets = inability to fight and recover common pathogens.
But more importantly your statistical ways of gauging numbers and comparing them to this pandemic is ass backwards
"X" sample size vs "Y" sample size doesn't fit. A common cold reaches 75% of the world's population each year, Covid-19 hasn't even scratched a 2 digit percentile. The numbers infected and in critical condition will quadruple by Monday

Ok boomer
You're 100% right but let's be honest this is what many boomers have said about the the younger generation for awhile now.
I think you can totally take this serious while also doubting a couple methods.
The "social distancing" thing does make sense.
Admitting the facts that many of the people that are dying or experiencing complications are old or with underlying health conditions and young people shouldn't be as worried makes sense too. Of course it can affect younger people but based on data, it's not something to be as alarmed about.

Hard to believe how quickly the spins evolved as time went by. I'm keeping an eye on the spin evolution as time passes.
It began as a nothingburger, then a hoax to take down Trump, then just a bad cold, then the flu, then they had it under control, then a vast conspiracy against America, then the cure would be worse than the disease, then chloroquine was the cure the Dems were hiding to raise the death counts as a coup against Trump, then nobody knew about this disease until it was too late, then the President always knew the dangers but he was giving people hope, and then finally blaming the impeachment trial in January for delays in response.

"I'm a life long politician, I know how to get things done". Great tag line..
One of the narratives that arose after Trump beat Clinton was that though he was inexperienced, naive and often unpresidential in his demeanor and approach, he would quickly rise to the office of President; he would grow to meet the challenges he faces with the same deft as past Presidents. I think it has been made abundantly clear, even before this latest crisis, that it is unlikely he will ever rise or grow to adequately meet the demands of the office. A lot of Americans seem to want someone who has some experience and a modicum of competence again. Go figure...

The facts don't support the hype on this one, the fact that the media has to exaggerate the deaths should tell you something. Our big update was a 95 year old died in a nursing home, the same person no one would give a rats ass about the last few decades yet now it makes the news..
We wouldn't have to "flatten the curve" if the government didn't make cuts every year to the hospital system, yet instead of fixing the problem they're doing $100b each time stimulus packages?
This is a financial reform plain and simple. Yes the virus is a bad version of the flu but the majority who get it barley even get symptoms. Tired of the simps argument of it being passed on to others blah blah, yeah that's the same as the normal flu you retards.

In the margins, among others, are those who voted for him in 2016 because they saw him as a change agent with no record to scrutinize. He now has a pretty dismal record to defend. For instance, his early insistence that this coronavirus thing was a Democratic hoax has aged pretty poorly, but the real problem is his early inaction and inattention reflecting that "it's a hoax" mindset. It's not just words anymore.

No, Trump is not at fault for everything wrong in the world, it's not even his fault this CVD-19 bullshit popped up BUT it is his fault for downplaying the potential for a pandemic, the WHO was warning us weeks ahead, Europe was in chaos and Trump was too busy calling it a Democratic hoax. And Europe wasn't or isn't in chaos. There are a few outbreak hotspots, just like in the US, but basically everywhere there's a very civilized lockdown going on and the curve is being flattened. People are working from home for the most part and people are trying to enjoy life as much as possible while still acting responsibly.
A few weeks ago, people where talking about millions of American deaths from/with corona virus, but now just a few days ago you laughed at the president for saying it would be a good end result if only 100K-240K ended up dying, so the goal posts have certainly been moved.
As a whole, worldwide, the general response has pretty good, or at least OK all things considered. It could be better, and I'm definitely for that, but that's a discussion about allocation of resources, focus and effort.
Countries have shut down, a lot of companies sent people to work from home at an early time in the process, people are staying mostly at home(streets are dead everywhere). Except for Sweden, they haven't done much on a government level and schools are still open, though many companies have sent people to work from home. They still seem to be OK as well though.
I don't think you can see this though, because you take your information from the US media, the people who mostly write "dead from coronavirus" instead of "dead while having coronavirus", just to put it in your subconsciousness that all these deaths happen only because of the virus and making it all seem a bit worse.

You're happy to trash fox news but refuse to show some humility about how you choose to get your info as well. You didn't even ask whether or not it was true. You "heard it" and since it aligned with your views about Trump you believed it.
I can't argue for or against FOX news as that would require me to actually have watched it.

They will tell you A story but never tell you THE story. It was barely a month ago when the left and the media were telling us how racist Trump was for stopping travel from China and that he was overreacting to the Corona virus and all of the sudden they flip the script to non-stop panic all of the time saying Trump is not doing enough. Heck many left wing leaders were telling people to go out in public because it was safe. Nancy Pelosi told people to go on out to Chinatown on 2/24/20. Now it is panic all the time.

There will be time to review our response in the coming months, and in order to do so effectively, we will need to "dwell on past mistakes" for a spell in order to avoid making them again. Currently, the administration feels they have handled this outbreak perfectly. That's a problem.

I don't know. But there's a difference between doing something perfectly and best as possible, or under the circumstances. The circumstances being the world we live in, responding perfectly is impossible.
I did hear him say that if deaths could be held between 100-240K deaths, then it "would be a good job". Which has to be true, because people were talking about millions of deaths if nothing was done.

10/10 ZenMaster that's the score he gave his handling of this situation. People engage in such bravado because they can get away with it. If you and others are willing to overlook his BS he will lead you into la la land where you will live in blissful ignorance until real life asserts itself. Better hope the latter doesn't happen while you are alive or didn't contribute to your death.
There is a spectrum of outcomes. The fairest way to measure how good the response was is in relation to peers, meaning other countries. If people want to make excuses and water down the standards they can and will do so. But real life does not care about such games. It will deliver its verdict one way or another. People get the government they deserve.

Point is that all politicians in the Western world played it down until they couldn't anymore, because they can't go about creating panic before it's absolutely necessary to shut down. Yes Trump did it more than others and his macho attitude was not suitable for the situation, but it doesn't change the fact that US politicians as whole were downplaying what was coming.
Someone here mentioned a report about the Fox lawyers being worried about lawsuits, well if that has ANY merit, shouldn't you also call it criminal negligence for Nancy Pelosi and Bardot to give such advise in February about attending parades for Chinese new year?

Sorry but I don't care about such bravado, but what I do care about is that people all over the world is taking this seriously and that we did/are doing what looks like a great job to minimize the affects of this virus.
Generally there's a term used called "peer countries", it exists because normally all countries aren't considered peers as there are difference in size, economy and culture, leading to different expectations. Go ahead and compare US numbers to rest of Western world, they're more or less the same.
Would you agree with the statement that if the death toll for the US ends up between 100-250K deaths of people who were infected with the virus at time of death, that it's a pretty good job?

I touched on this earlier...yes our numbers are similar but the point is we SHOULDN'T be. We had a head start to make preparations. Even if we ignored what was happening in Asia, by the time it hit Europe we couldn't deny it anymore. Still, any efforts made to slow it down and prepare were half assed and Trump was telling the country it would "magically disappear by April" and the country would be open again by Easter. Depends on the tallies from other countries. If Germany has less than 1/5 the deaths then it did better. Even if the deaths were equivalent on a per capita basis the other country should probably be judged to have done better because virtually no other country has the advantages that the United States started out with. The other European countries for example were neighbors with the hotspot that was Italy while the United States famously has two oceans on either side that have tended to isolate and shield it from the world's problems.

The principle for me is more important than the size of the platform of Pelosi/CNN/NBC/MSNBC compared to Trump/Fox.
She was elected to look out for the interest of the people she represent, or at least we'd like to think so. And while not that important of a point, it still is a point that Pelosi is considered a star. The woman who defies Trump, tears up his speech(where he actually mentioned the virus as well btw as something to look out for), she's touted both in the US and internationally for those things - she is one of the top leaders of the Democratic Party.
Fox, CNN, NBC, MSNBC and all the MSM channels should be revised. They are allowed to consider their product "News Entertainment", and it got even worse when the propaganda law was removed during the Obama administration. All MSM new channels today are media extensions of one of the two political parties, it's a terrible situation and it leads to crazy things happening that might not even be real.
E.g when Jussie Smolet faked a lynching attempt just a few days after - I believe - Kamala Harris had a bill introduced with new language for such events.
Pelosi sucks. That doesn’t mean Trump doesn’t suck worse though.

I don't know man, it's not like I don't get your point, I just don't think it's feasible expectations. I've been to most of the European countries, many of them are just as or more generally developed than the US.
Trump said "MIGHT magically disappear by April", and that "he was hoping the country could open again by Easter". You know what the Prime Minister of Denmark said just today? That's she's hoping the country can start reopening again just after Easter.
Washington Post pushed a study that projected 2.2 million deaths within the US if nothing was done. It's a bit ironic, that when Trump closed off travel to China, using some of that ocean on both sides advantage, he was called a racist and xenophobe.
I live on a small island that's a country by itself, has one airport and one ferry line. It would have been so amazingly easy here to shut down anyone coming in and preventing an outbreak here at all. But they didn't, instead it's the same dated response as everywhere else, because that's how these countries work and we've created a system where we are dependent on each other as countries for products and services to a degree never seen before.

Because we could have taken steps to have even fewer deaths? Look at Singapore and South Korea, which I believe had their first case same day as us. Look at the steps they took and where they are now. Within a week after cases began to rise there, they began doing 10k tests per day. It took us something like 8 weeks to reach 10k tests a day point since mid-January when everyone knew it could do human to human transmission. We (well, Donny) spent those 8 weeks mocking it, belittling it and outright downplaying it as his response transitioned. He was busy in mid-March talking about opening markets on Easter, talking conspiracy and all of the stuff I pointed out in that post.
February 29 was first US death from coronavirus. We are at 10,400 now. Donny did not take it seriously until week 3 of March.

Singapore and South Korea are of a different culture though, where the government can get people to do things quickly that takes longer in the West. South Korea did electronic mapping and tracking of infected, which is a very big invasion into someones privacy.
You can mock it as a conspiracy if you want, but the media being negative against chloroquine for no apparent reason, at the same time certain democrat governors were blocking doctors ability to use it locally, that was definitely political.

The poor response of other countries does not absolve the current administration of their mistakes. There are certainly a number of realities that most countries were bound to encounter: a lot of people were going to die; the economy was going to tank; our healthcare system was going to be tested. But we can't overlook the fact that the administration delayed in taking a few key steps that would have strengthened our response. Their early attempts to dismiss and downplay the outbreak were egregious.

Don't forget that California governor Gavin Newsom said about a month ago that over 25 million Californians would contract the virus within a two month period.

Currently California sits at 17,614 reported cases statewide and of those cases only 450 have died.

We are on pace to blow past 37k flu deaths within next 14 days. We had 1,700 deaths today and I expect peak to be around 2k per day. We are close to the peak as per Falci and others. I am guessing peak will be around Friday/Saturday or so.
My estimate:
Apr 7 - 14k total deaths (1.7k in day)
April 8 - 15.8k (1.8k in day)
April 9 - 17.6k (1.8k)
Apr 10 - 19.6 (2k)
Apr 11 - 21.6 (2k)
Apr 12 - 23.8 (2.2k)
Apr 13 - 25.8 (2k)
Apr 14 - 27.7 (1.9k)
Apr 15 - 29.6 (1.9k)
Apr 16 - 31.5 (1.9k)
Apr 17 - 33.3 (1.8k)
Apr 18 - 35.1 (1.8k)
Apr 19 - 37k (1.8k)
April 20 - pass flu average
This is assuming peak is 2.2k deaths per day and then it begins to drop off afterwards. So far, it has only been increasing but I am hoping we can get it down. If peak is higher then we will reach flu average deaths by mid next week.
Keep in mind that our first death in US was February 29 iirc. Flu season runs about 7 months. We are 3 months into coronavirus with who knows how much longer..

Those aren’t mistakes, Max. None of those are. Those are statements that Trump made. I can find you several statements from medical experts on your favorite channels like MSNBC and CNN who all said the same thing. So again, who are you fooling here, Maxwell? Definitely not me. Who are you fooling when you casually omit Trump’s travel ban from China and Europe? Again, you haven’t fooled me.
Do you suffer from severe TDS that no matter what Trump does, it’s your life’s mission to second guess it and paint it in a negative light? Haven’t you had enough failures and losses trying to convince us that Trump colluded to steal an election? How about the Ukraine deal? It was a perfect phone call. Are you daft? Spreading misinformation is a mistake, especially when we now know that people in and connected to his administration, including health experts, were talking about and advising Trump on the opposite of the "statements" he was was making publicly. He has even publicly contradicted what some of his experts have said publicly. I wouldn't be surprised if the administration, at some point, tries to push the narrative that the information from his advisers never got to him.
Fauci has talked about the slow response the administration had and the push back he received in calling for closings. Half the time, he has trouble keeping his face straight as Trump talks during his briefings.
And then there's the pushing out of Rear Adm. Timothy Ziemer, senior director for global health security and biodefense at the National Security Council, and the dismantling and fragmenting of his team back in 2018. Trump's comparisons of this outbreak to the seasonal flu. Alex Azar's unheeded warnings. Baffling decisions around testing and test kits. There's unfortunately a long list of baffling Trump decisions.
As for the China travel ban... you do realize that the major airlines had suspended flights to China prior to Trump's announcement, right? Their actions actually preceded his announcement.
Lol, are you ok? You sound like Trump.
“I like this stuff. I really get it. People are surprised that I understand it… Every one of these doctors said, ‘How do you know so much about this?’ Maybe I have a natural ability. Maybe I should have done that instead of running for president.”
You used to sound like this.
Several thousand lies and failed projects later, the only thing Trump has going for him is his name. To which he has created this mythical fairy tale that the Trump name is synonymous with success. It is not.
From "TDS" to stanning. SMH...

So you wanted him to panic at first mention and alarm everyone, shut all borders and create a vaccine by himself in one day??
Fkn trump it's all his fault!!!
No, I wanted him to heed the early warnings of his health advisers regarding the potential severity of the outbreak and the need for closings, to make sure our testing capabilities were more robust sooner, and to more quickly secure and distribute PPE. I also wanted him to avoid spreading misinformation at the onset and in the middle of a the pandemic.
It's not all Trump's fault, and anyone saying that has no idea what they're talking about, but if you're having trouble acknowledging that he and the administration had some unfortunate and preventable failings, I can't help you.
Btw it looks like you'll land in that average of 27-70k deaths sooo technically he's not wrong.:lol
The numbers are slowing down thanks to the stringent social distancing measures put in place to slow the spread of the virus, since we don't have a vaccine. Looks like it has worked, though we may have a few more weeks to go, and if not the summer, the fall to contend with. In contrast, millions of people get the flu vaccine every year, and it is especially advised for the elderly and those with underlying health issues... the very people acutely affected by coronavirus.
27-70k additional deaths is really nothing to laugh about... especially from the common cold as some of you have described this pandemic.

Every piece of advice Trump was given from the task force, he acted on it. They have said it themselves time and time again. The fact that Dr. Fauci has to tell reporters that Trump acted on all their requests just goes to show you that the media narrative has now shifted into pinning blame on Trump, rather than focusing on the very real virus that is still killing people on a daily basis. That’s embarrassing for journalism and for partisan hacks like you to focus on Trump 24/7 than the actual problem at hand.

Lol, and he contradicts his own people and they are forced to reverse themselves in order to stay on his good side.
I mean, obviously, you could logically say that if you had a process that was ongoing and you started mitigation earlier, you could have saved lives,” Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, told CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union” when asked if social distancing and stay-at-home measures could have prevented deaths had they been put in place in February, instead of mid-March.
“Obviously, no one is going to deny that. But what goes into those decisions is complicated,” added Fauci, who is a key member of the Trump administration’s coronavirus task force. “But you’re right, I mean, obviously, if we had right from the very beginning shut everything down, it may have been a little bit different. But there was a lot of pushback about shutting things down back then.”
In a briefing to the media on Tuesday, officials from the centres for disease control and other health experts, said communities in the US should start planning for “social distancing measures”.
“It’s not so much of a question of if this will happen anymore but rather more of a question of exactly when this will happen,” said Nancy Messonnier, director of the national centre for immunization and respiratory diseases.
But in his own press conference on Wednesday, Mr Trump appeared to play down such certainty, while insisting his government was ready for whatever came.
“I don’t think it’s inevitable. I don’t think it’s inevitable because we’re doing a really job at the borders and checking people coming in,” he said.

It's not a coincidence that they happened to pick the sides they did.
Conservatives tend to be more weary of govt overreach and are thus more likely to believe something is being overblown by the govt to exert control.
Liberals tend to be more weary of corporate overreach and are thus more likely to believe something is being downplayed so as to protect corporate interests.
Both are valid concerns and I'd like to believe most individuals have more nuance than just picking a side.

That's the American perspective...the exact opposite happened here in Mexico, the leftist government led by Lopez Obrador until recently was downplaying the threat of the virus while the conservative opposition was warning of a disastrous pandemic outbreak. So far we aren't being hit that hard, seems to be more or less under control but it really does suck that even something like a pandemic gets politicized.

2,400 US deaths yesterday and rising
just your typical flu day with more casualties than 9/11 attacks
all despite being in complete lockdown
and the virus only being around a month

January 29 - the day WHO began to take the virus seriously as global emergency and urging everyone to do the same
March 16 - the day Trump began to take the virus seriously
Trump on April 7: blames WHO for delayed response and blames them for cover-up
"Taking something seriously" as you say is an opinion. Opinions hold no water next to actions.
Once again for those who are slow:
TA=Trump admin
1/3: TA offered to send CDC to China
1/5: 2nd offer made
1/14: WHO says no human-to-human transmission
1/20: TA announces work on vaccine
1/29: TA created Coronavirus Task Force
1/30: WHO declares emergency
1/31: TA bans China travel
EDIT: I'll add this one too for context
2/24: Nancy Pelosi creates a publicity stunt by visiting San Fran's Chinatown section telling everyone to come to Chinatown as she takes pictures and shakes hands with her constituents.

What about every news outlet parroting out how this virus was not a big deal? They all had doctors on preaching about how the regular flu would be more worrisome and how it was still safe to travel and to travel to China of all places.
Why does Trump get under your skin, Max? Why aren't you critical of the Fake News media who for several weeks told millions of Americans that this was nothing to worry about?
So now you've moved on from Trump's dismissals and downplaying of the virus and the mistakes he has made to the media. Media entities and personalities who downplayed the virus should certainly be called out. Why do you have an issue with both Trump and the media being called out?

First off Maxwell, you never call out the media. And if you do, it's only Fox News. You regurgitate Fake News CNN and MSDNC talking points on a daily.
And you fail to see the bigger picture because you have an agenda. Your agenda is to call out Trump. Period. Who are we kidding here? You could care less about truths and facts. You're a KevinNYC clone and I wonder if that isn't really Kevin on the other end of the computer at times. The only reason you get up in the morning is to go on internet message boards and trash Trump. The bigger picture and overall point that you refuse to visualize and accept is that anything Trump said, and any downplaying of the virus was spoken from a perspective of having very little information about it at the time. Same goes for the media. Even your hero, Anderson Cooper, told his 12 viewers (yourself included) that we should all worry about the regular flu instead of the Coronavirus as he even had Dr. Sanjay Gupta sitting next to him! Then, to top it off, the third most powerful person in this country, the third in line to the Presidency, your Queen, your bae, Nancy Pelosi was in San Francisco in the middle of Chinatown shaking hands and hugging people telling everyone that it was safe to interact and be out in public. :facepalm This was on 2/24. Nearly a month after Trump had halted flights coming in from China.
So if everyone was downplaying it right around the same time, then why is it your mission here to portray Trump in negative light? As if he didn't step up in time and could have acted quicker. As I told your pen pal bladefd earlier, anytime you guys say he "didn't take it seriously", well, it's laughable and pathetic. Actions speak louder than words, and I'll post it for a third time on here in case the third time is the charm for some of you:

The moral of the story is that everyone downplayed this. And while we should be pointing the finger at the actual culprits here, you're just headstrong on getting at Trump that it's clouding your vision and judgment. This is the reason the WHO is losing their funding. They are a puppet for China and there are plenty of videos online of the WHO, the people who are responsible to warn other countries of potential pandemics, downplaying the virus and gushing over China and how transparent that government has been in the handling of this virus. It's evident now that they were covering for China. But yet here you are, pointing the finger at Trump for some odd and strange reason. You're obsessed with him, my friend.

Lil Donny kept downplaying it looong after WHO declared emergency.
Yes, lots of people were downplaying. Including many democrats and China, shame on them all. Even some blame to scientists like Falci for saying we shouldn't close airplanes to China. Trump is certainly not the only one to blame. I blame many people, including everyday people like you and nanners calling it just a bad cold. It is not just a cold.
Having said that though, Trump is the president - he is supposed to be the leader of the free world. He gets held to a much higher standard as our leader and most powerful man in the world. It took him until March 16 to admit the virus was an emergency. Let's not excuse that and try to completely change the narrative. Truth is Trump made a mistake like everyone, including Pelosi, and move the hell on.

Trump did everything the task force asked him to do in order to curtail the virus from spreading further. Trump acted on their requests immediately after the requests and recommendations were made.
So you guys are all up in arms over what? Over him downplaying it? We all did. I expect you to whip yourself now, blade. As punishment. The problem is you guys are trying so hard to correlate his downplaying of it to actual American deaths from this virus. You guys are evil. No one died as a result of Trump's downplaying this. If anything, acting as quickly as he did per the recommendations of the task force, many lives were saved as a result. And the amount of deaths were minuscule as opposed to these radical and irresponsible projections the "experts" were putting out.

We are on pace to blow past 37k flu deaths within next 14 days. We had 1,700 deaths today and I expect peak to be around 2k per day. We are close to the peak as per Falci and others. I am guessing peak will be around Friday/Saturday or so.
My estimate:
Apr 7 - 14k total deaths (1.7k in day)
April 8 - 15.8k (1.8k in day)
April 9 - 17.6k (1.8k)
Apr 10 - 19.6 (2k)
Apr 11 - 21.6 (2k)
Apr 12 - 23.8 (2.2k)
Apr 13 - 25.8 (2k)
Apr 14 - 27.7 (1.9k)
Apr 15 - 29.6 (1.9k)
Apr 16 - 31.5 (1.9k)
Apr 17 - 33.3 (1.8k)
Apr 18 - 35.1 (1.8k)
Apr 19 - 37k (1.8k)
April 20 - pass flu average
This is assuming peak is 2.2k deaths per day and then it begins to drop off afterwards. So far, it has only been increasing but I am hoping we can get it down. If peak is higher then we will reach flu average deaths by mid next week.
Keep in mind that our first death in US was February 29 iirc. Flu season runs about 7 months. We are 3 months into coronavirus with who knows how much longer..
Prediction almost right on the money. Actually 5k more people died than my estimate at the end of April 20th.. Passed the estimate of flu deaths and we are far from out of the woods

What mistakes, Doctor Max?
Don't forget that California governor Gavin Newsom said about a month ago that over 25 million Californians would contract the virus within a two month period.
https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2020-03-20/newsom-california-25-million-coronavirus-cases-two-months
Currently California sits at 17,614 reported cases statewide and of those cases only 450 have died.
https://media1.tenor.com/images/04d581e7abee1061d26b6c01532a7771/tenor.gif
Wait, what happened to that 25.5 million? I wonder who stepped up and helped poor Gavin.
March 19th, 2020: “We project that roughly 56 percent of our population – 25.5 million people – will be infected with the virus over an eight week period,” GAVIN NEWSOM wrote in a letter to President Trump. He asked the president to deploy a hospital ship. The president agreed, and on March 27, USNS Mercy arrived in the Port of Los Angeles. Last week, it steamed out – after treating just 77 patients in seven weeks.
Orange County: 5,900 available beds (could expand to 8,400 beds) and only 230 beds (3.9%) are treating COVID-19 patients.

In terms of IFR, it turns out "it's just the flu bro"
CDC estimates that 35 percent of people infected by the COVID-19 virus never develop symptoms. Taking that into account, we get:
0.3% overall IFR
0.03% IFR in 0-49 years old
0.13% IFR in 50-64 years old
As we test more asymptomatic people, we'll start to see that 35% rise. Some data is showing up to 88% asymptomatic cases. Taking a 70% asymptomatic case into account, we get
0.15% overall IFR
0.015% IFR in 0-49 years old
0.065% IFR in 50-64 years old
The flu is more dangerous to most of the country than COVID-19, or on par with the flu. "It's just a flu bro"
