View Full Version : NBA image has taken a hit with how pandemic is being handled

As a longtime basketball fan, I can’t believe they’re still trying to salvage the 2020 NBA season. People are dying everyday due to this crisis yet these greedy people can only focus on how many millions they can still recover. Japan has already canceled the Olympics for 2020 in the best interest of the safety of people all over the world and planning a more realistic date of 2021. Basketball is a full contract sport. All it’s gonna take is one guy to have it, and then it starts spreading again, with or without fans. It's not too late for the NBA to do the right thing. Just dribble the clock out, and start over again next season when the coast is clear. It’ll be a better look for the league long term.

The NBA image as whole has taken a hit this season. It all started when Silver back pedaled on his comments to China regarding Morey and freedom in favor of money. Then when Lebron defended him by attacking Morey because he got hurt “physically, emotionally, financially and spiritually.“ Ironic that a virus from China is now coming back to bite them. Yet they still haven't learned. Basketball ain't fun without fans? More like basketball ain’t fun without money.

We are wondering if this virus will be gone by September let alone another wave after that, meanwhile the NBA wants to get back to games.

I don't think people understand what we are doing. Most people will get the virus sooner or later. The only way we can rid of it is by total isolation and we know that won't happen for practical reasons. Even if we were able to isolate everybody. What we are doing is avoiding too many people getting the virus at the same time. We are trying to spread it out over time. That way the hospitals are able to handle the extra pressure.

That, and also biding time until a vaccine is ready for the masses and we're a ways off.

They could potentially save the season by isolating the players and having them play eachother with everyone testing negative. What's wrong with that? You don't like watching the games? We likely won't have a "cure" before 2021.

It's rather strange to have so called sports fans complaining about the prospect of having sports during a weird time for day to day life. If they can figure a way out for the season to go on the entertainment would be nice at this point for "non essential" workers don't you think?

What they're going to test players every single game and have them live in a plastic bubble between games?

What are you guys even suggesting? :oldlol:

It is in no way realistic to run the NBA with this going on.

Just because you feel some sort of way doesn’t mean everyone thinks this or that the NBA’s image is “taking a hit”

The NBA season will absolutely be resumed.

Sad that insecurity about one player POSSIBLY winning a title would bring about such garbage takes.

Da fck you talking about? You realize the NBA was one of the first organizations to suspend its operations in light of the pandemic. This was before other leagues, concert promoters, restaurants, business, state and city governments all shut down activity. The nba is a LEADER in taking on the coronavirus and Adam silver showed us his brass balls back when he banned Donald sterling and is showing it once again

Gotta agree with this. It wasn't an easy decision to make and Silver was the first one to do set the precedent and others followed.

Maybe they'll change the rules so that defense can't be played. And players on offense can't even touch each other. Even better if they just make it a one on one match. Like a shootout between two teams. But no two people can ever use the same ball. And each ball has got to be in a sterilized plastic bag. Whoever makes the most shots wins.

I don't see how any basketball can be played without any contact. Putting players and fans lives at risk is not worth millions. Let's see what the NBA ultimately cares about.

I gotta give credit to Adam Silver. Everyday people die from way more things than just the coronavirus. Silver knows that there is a 60 percent chance the season can resume. You can’t just stop based on emotion, you have to plan ahead.

When things are on the downslope, expect businesses to open up again.

Are they gonna play without coaches? Most of these old guys are at risk of death if they catch it. Are lives worth millions of dollars only to the NBA?

Lmao why do you think so. Of course they should retain those who are completely healthy and only hold the most vulnerable ones if they're starting to show some symptoms.

The NBA is getting delusional. Trying to quarantine hundreds, maybe thousands, of people together and thinking health experts and the government will think its okay just seems delusional.

But if they’re diligent maybe they can convince the CDC.
