I've played vs players that got 10 day contracts, international players and D1 players.
They humble you in a second.
Some of these players weren't even trying yet they embarrassed everyone.
A few things that stick out:
Strength. These players don't look strong, but they were all strong. One thing that stood out was their grip, they all had great grip and it was hard to knock the ball out of their hand.
Quickness. Every move they made was quick even if it didn't appear to be. Even if you knew what they'd do, even if it looked slow they still did what they wanted to do without trying. It was scary how quick they all were.
Shooting. All of them could shoot extremely well. Put any D1 player in your local park/gym and regardless of position, age they will not miss. I played an old geezer that played D1 ball when he was young and he never missed.
Skill. While it may not look like it, even the last scrub coming off the bench can do every move you can, more efficiently and simply better. While I didn't play against him, I saw Bo Outlaw dominate at Venice Beach. Doing shit only point guards can do, crossovers, fadeaways, step backs, you name it he was doing it all with ease. He was known as a stiff rebounder in the league but was breaking people's ankles in the park.
I've played tons and tons of ball in my prime, at one point I thought I could play D1 ball. But was immediately humbled whenever I played against top comp.
Any stories or experiences?

Played a dude who fled from ex-Yu about 10 years ago. He was in his late 40s by then. He was a pro and played against Drazen etc. He killed us. He missed one shot in 3 games didn't turn the ball over and got anywhere he wanted, although he was slow as ****.
One of my schoolmates was scouted by US colleges back in 99. Was an absolute novum over here by then. Dude played like AI, but shot like Curry. He would come to the blacktop and win games by himself. Too bad he never grew into an NBA ready body. Saw him some years ago, he still had it, but lost all his dedication to basketball.

The game moves slow to them. I don't remember people stealing from them or blocking them either. There was a dude that played overseas dominating a gym wearing sandals and weight vest. Yes he had a weight vest and sandals and was still beating people without trying much. Nobody stole the ball from him and while everyone wanted to stop him, nobody could. If he missed it wasn't due to the defense.

Went to a Craig Hodges camp when I was 14 and ended up in a pick up game. First thing that stood out to me was his quickness. I can't even imagine playing against the players who have a rep for being fast.
Went to Uni of Maryland camp in 95. Manure Bol was there, Tony Massenberg and Joe Smith who was number 1 pick that year plus a few other Terrapins. Played a bit of pickup, it was........enlightening. Standing close to Bol was like :biggums:

Played pickup with/against Kendall Marshall,Luol Deng,Jamal Crawford and Quincy Acy and I kind of held my own but they definitely not playing close to their hardest
One thing that stood out when playing them was how consistent their shooting is, Deng is a career 35% 3 point shooter but he made damn near every single open shot

I play in a "lower" rec division which in my area means on average every team at my level has an average of about 1 or 2 guys good enough to get a scholarship for low level college ball (not D1, just lower level colleges). Most of the rest of the rosters are rounded out by guys who just love the game and/or are adult athletes that like to compete but originated from other sports backgrounds like football or hockey. But so, nearly every game I'm playing against college level players. Just not great college level players. There's always 1 team a session that is stacked and doesn't belong in our division and it's usually a team anchored by 1 or 2 elite college players... like closer to D1 college. And those guys match the description in the OP. I don't mind playing against them though but the description in the OP isn't wrong though in 5 on 5 they rarely do "every move" I can do they mostly seem to keep it simple - but are so big and mobile they are just very effective.

Former D1 scrub here, I couldnt give two damns about basketball after my sophmore year and just focused on schoolwork. Those senior level business, economics, and finance classes are no joke. As for competing its all a game of stamina, everyone can shoot, defend, run, play hard, etc but how long could you do it? Games and practice felt more like a 12 round fight than a basketball game at this level... of course I played in a more physical era. I would tear up these kids today if I had a free lane to the basket every single play. I was extremely fast because I rode my bicycle everyday

I played in an "industrial league" for 3 years and our best player was a point guard for a small college. The league was mostly high school players , guys who loved to play and a few from small colleges. Before one game our PG asked me if I wanted to guard the opposing teams point guard and I said "sure" . I did not know that these 2 PG's knew each other. After 10 minutes of me being humbled = I could not take the ball away from him and he did whatever he wanted, I looked at my PG and shook my head. We switched assignments and after 10 more minutes it was halftime. I asked our PG, "so how are you doing against this guy?" He replied " I can't guard that guy, he does whatever he wants against me!" So I reply " then why did you put me on him?" and he says " I just wanted you to wear him down a bit before I had to guard him" = LOL.

Played on same AAU team as JR Smith. Beat him in one on one. Much more talented but couldnt guard the post and was a little soft at the time. Was on Pops Mensu Bonso's team at a camp.
Played against:
Carmelo Anthony - was unguardable to me in AAU. Just took big, strong and skilled. He could get to his spots and good counters.
Luol Deng - robotic but hard worker
Charlie Villanueva - very cool guy. His team was blowing my team out and he wanted me to get some shine from scounts...so he let me have a wide open 3 and then let me blow by for a dunk lol
Randy Foye - guy busted my whole teams ass.
Derrick Caracter - talented 8th grader but didn't get much better.
nah but it doesnt take a genius to see the size, athleticism, and skill advantage of the pro level. these guys all shoot lights out in practice and being guarded by a 5'2 midget like egokiller is like playing in an empty gym.

I have more of a Mamba mentality and always tried to beat NBA players when I played them in 1-on-1
I was never humbled by anyone and never could be
When I played Richard Jefferson and Luke Walton, I was busting Richard's ass to the point that Luke had to berate his buddy about it
I dunked on Zach Randolph 4 times in a row and destroyed him (okay he was still in HS at the time but an all-american)
I double-pump dunked on another McDonald's all American Evan Burns
Me and Raja Bell almost fought in one of my first practices at FIU because I was a newcomer that was playing well and I'd started talking shit - Raj felt insecure and tried to start something because it was his team
Another time I was dominating Carlos Arroyo and he couldn't get by me (he did make 3 consecutive threes to mitigate this fact and "blow the game open", but I was still dominating his team)
I outplayed Jay Edwards in a pickup game
Anthony Parker once embarrassed me by ripping me and going in for the dunk... But I got him back by locking him down the rest of the game - this was significant because NO ONE could stop AP back then - he was like Jordan in pick up
I got to play with Rony Seikaly and John Salmons... This was 1999, and Salmons was a little ahead of the game in the handles department.. he had already mastered some of the new school moves and I my ankles got broke so many times.. the most I've ever had my ankles broke
Played on Udonis Haslem's team in a pickup game and hit a catch-and-shoot game-winner off his pindown screen (also posterized Kentucky standout Gimel Martinez in that game)
Hardest I ever been dunked on was by Tony Farmer (former Warrior)
Bonzi Wells and Courtney James were on my AAU team (and not the best player on the team)
Many more...
Ran into James Harden at the inglewood DMV once waiting in a long ass line.. he was talking with his homie about going back to his Escalade and getting another swig of the Hennessy

I should add that one reason I was never humbled by an NBA player is because dunking on each other is standard for pros
Sure you see players jumping up on the bench when there's a poster, but that's for TV with 20k fans in the stands.. But we used to posterize each other routinely, and no one would say anything mostly - just run back down the court..
The only exception was when Raj drop-stepped Lucas Barnes.. good god.. practice did briefly stop that time

you guys acting like D1 players are some magicians crack me up
I played in the ABA not long ago and we have multiple D1 guys, and one of them had just finished playing for UCF in fact.
"they never miss" yah..uh no
do they shoot good? Sure, but it's not like these guys hit every single open shot they have whether in scrims or not. In fact they miss a large amount of them.

Impressive. I really do mean this as a compliment but you'd be up there with the toughest competition MJ ever faced in the Finals.
Meanwhile LeBron was going up against one of the greatest scorers ever (KD), the best and second best shooters ever (Curry, Klay), one of the most versatile defenders ever (Green) who were all in their prime plus another elite defender in Iggy (slightly past his offensive prime but in his defensive prime) along with deep benches.

That's how far you're reaching to turn this thread and my post into something about LeBron's legacy
I'm good. Responding to the thread
Weird question to ask me... You jealous?
I have a standing offer for anyone to come out to Vegas and play me. See for yourself.. if you're a recreational baller with little experience playing real dudes, I'll seem like Kobe to you - you won't be able to tell the difference
no offense 3ballz my friend - I just have a hard time believing you can hoop.
you give me the vibe of this guy, just more toxic and wearing bulls pajamas to help you with your fantasies :oldlol::

How have more people not read 3balls response to this thread? It’s thread worthy in itself.
This dude is a pathological liar.

I think back then I was around 15 years old I signed up for my high school basketball training camp, the owner was an asian b ball player that knows Yao, then one of the assistant trainer was a retired Miami Heat backup player.
Yeah he was tall and crazy athletic, none of us stood a chance tbh.

This dude is a pathological liar.
I think he's the funniest poster we've ever had :oldlol:

So you are one of those guys who always shoots in pick up games and never passes?
You are the absolute worst kind of person to play a pick up game with..
As for the rest of your p[ost:roll:
I still remember the time you posted like a 5 second clip of you playing ball but it was with a camera phone from like the early 2000's and so grainy you couldn't see a damn thing,.
Actually the video 3 ball posted, out of all the ISHers I’ve seen post videos of themselves ... he quite clearly looked like the best one. From what I saw. And I’m not easily impressed.
If that video was him, dude can definitely ball. Stop talking shit out of sheer jealousy. You’re coming up with all kinds of asinine assumptions about him as a player.
Mind you this has absolutely nothing to do with him and I both liking Jordan or Kobe, etc.

lol I don't think any one of is surprised Coach here is coming to rescue 3ball out on the deserted well he has dug. Who else, but the guy who so...rigorously defended Jordan's pant size to come out of nowhere like superman from a nuclear comatose...:oldlol: It just baffles me some people can become so obsessed with others. I never even talked about the two ex wives I had the way these two nutcases talk about sweet Mike.

I'm a better 1-on-1 player than 5-on-5.. I got a little "Melo" in me, I ain't gonna lie
But that video was from 2017 and it wasn't grainy
And you would want to play with me - I've carried many a scrub to pick-up glory
