I noticed that everyone gets criticized. Think about it. You could be an NBA superstar living the dream and there’s gonna be a plethora of fans who criticize your game. No matter how hard you work or train, there’s criticism. I don’t get it.
What superstar gets the least criticism?
Think about it. Everyone gets criticized. Kawhi criticized for missing games. KD criticized for joining the Warriors. Westbrook criticized for being selfish. Curry criticized for no FMVP. Harden criticized for flops.

Yep. TD was the first person I thought of as well. Imagine if it was Kobe/LeBron/MJ who missed that shot in G7 of the Finals.
Heck, imagine them missing a clutch shot in ANY playoff game.

By the media? Jordan.
You'd think he was a saint and his his fans say shit like punching teammates in the face is good leadership or that comparing the size of their 3 year old sons "member" is perfectly normal.

Kawhi Leonard and Tim Duncan are also the most underrated superstars of all time. Put peak Duncan and Kawhi together and they would most likely be a better duo than Shaq&Kobe, Jordan&Pippen.

Magic
He is overhyped and under criticized in modern times. He got criticism in his time but his career is looked back at with rose tinted glasses. Maybe the AIDS or because he revitalized one of the great NBA franchises or because his style was fun to watch.
I do agree with Duncan as well but Duncan's also underhyped so it goes both ways.
Not sure I agree with Kawhi.

You don't think Bird's essentially in the same boat? That dude gets a pass on SO many mediocre to bad playoff performances that guys like LeBron would get absolutely killed for
I honestly don't think you can include pre social media/ message board players in this. Other than maybe Wilt and Russell, superstars who were the best of their eras who played before the rise of message boards and social media (ca. pre- 2000) simply do not receive the level of criticism that those who played more recently receive. Part of it is the recency factor, but another part of it is just simply the change in society and coverage. With literally 24/7 coverage on TV, social media, internet, etc. every minuscule aspect of a modern player's game and life can be dissected and criticized by millions of people, some who don't even watch them play, but are influenced by narratives propagated by sports media shock jocks.
With that being said, of the modern superstars, especially those who fall into the top 10ish all time ranking, Duncan is my vote for the least criticized.

Well first I should make clear that I'm not talking about criticized in their time because in that case Magic def got it bad in his time. I'm talking about when we evaluate players today.
We usually do gloss over the shortcomings of past greats. It's natural. You rarely hear criticism of anybody who won a ring in the 20th century (other than Wilt).
Magic and Bird both "saved" the NBA in terms of ratings and image so everyone has a soft spot when it comes to these two. The difference is Bird just isn't talked about nearly as much(for a bunch of reasons) so it's hard to say he doesn't get enough criticism when he doesn't get much praise either.

Hakeem jumped to my mind.
But if you notice... at least half of the players being named in this thread? A common theme is those half of guys kept their f*cking mouths shut. Which makes sense.

Tim Duncan. He won a championship and FMVP very early in his career, didn't flop, wasn't selfish, didn't cause any drama, and was a great teammate. Only criticism I ever heard about him was that his game was "boring". That's it

The Rockets lost in the 1st round for 4 straight years and the year after that they missed the playoffs. This was in the late 80s-early 90s and I'm sure Hakeem got criticized a lot then for not being a winner. It probably didn't change until 1994

Nobody criticizes him now... like at all. He didn't really have many if any holes in his game... he kept his mouth shut more and more as he got older and that's at least in part why he doesn't get any criticism. I couldn't tell you the last time I saw / heard someone say something to detract from Hakeem.
I've read about duncan recently and he's called 'the big fundamental' simply because some people think his playstyle is bland and boring.

No one diminishes him because of his play, but he pulled off something even worse then LeBron and doesn't get any hate at all for it.

joining an at the time role player siakam and continually dissapointing raptors squad is the same as creating the not 4, not 5, not 6 cHeat squad?
hopping to an MVP Wade and all NBA Bosh = joining siakam. and kyle lowry?

No.
He went to a team known for getting its ass kicked. his right hand man was a guy who wouldve gotten paid less than soloman hill on any other squad.
The '19 raptors werent even title favorites let alone dynasty candidates.
you're a chump for even making that inference.

Maybe if we're talking about strictly at this moment, Magic might be a decent answer.. but the man was being called Tragic Johnson by the whole nation after the '84 finals. Even when Duncan was playing and in his prime, I honestly can't remember him being heavily criticized. Even when the Spurs lost to the 8th seeded Grizzlies in the first round in 2011, I really don't remember Duncan getting much flak for it.

Tpols brain simply can't compute the "faking an injury for a year and holding a franchise hostage" part
this forum would explode if Lebron in his prime rested 20 games a year on day to day fake injuries, just the Kawhit usual night off :oldlol:

Nobody ever hated on bron for his lack of longevity.
Most people in the camp against him vote the way they do because he doesnt "fit" with great teams the way a kawhi would, and he doesnt have the matching closing ability or defense.

You are misleading other posters. Lets replace the Heat with the Cavaliers.
LeBron James joined a significantly worst team than the Raptors.
To put all this into perspective, LeBron James joined a Cavs team that wasnt EVEN in the playoffs and Kawhi joined a Raptors team that just finished 1st seed in the Eastern Conference Finals and made it to the ECF.
You dont bash and give credit to Kawhi because he joined a Raptors team that was just the #1 seed but you dont give credit to LeBron James b/c he joined a subpar Cavs team that missed the playoffs.
I also notice that you just put in the Heat. Why not the Cavaliers?
You logic is flawed.
Your trickery is not enough to fool me like most posters here.

Again, also false. How could you justify that a team was getting ¨its ass kicked¨ if they finished 3rd and 1st in the East and was getting deep into the playoffs in back-to-back seasons???
You post makes no sense.
The '19 raptors werent even title favorites Well last I checked, the 2018-19 Raptors were top 5 favorites to win the title. Check basketball reference.

What LeBron did was worse.
LeBron joined with the #2(wade) and #4(Bosh) PER in the league in 2011
That would be like if...
Leonard joined with Anthony Davis and Steph Curry in 2019

I love how Bosh gets the All-NBA label when he didn't even make All-NBA in 2010. Or '09. Or '08. Or any season with LeBron. Dude misses the All-NBA Team 12/13 years but he's "All-NBA Bosh" :lol Not disingenuous at all
