I believe the advanced metrics should be taken with a heavy dose of skepticism. I'm not saying they're useless, but we do need to contextualize them. For example, David Robinson is ranked above guys like Kareem and Hakeem. Hakeem thumped Robinson in his matchup with him in 1995, clearly exposing who the better player was. And Robinson's championships came on the back of Tim Duncan.
In addition, guys like Chris Paul are ranked higher than Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. So I exercise a little bit of caution and investigate the matter a little more when I look at advanced metrics. This doesn't disqualify the statistic. It is impressive that Mike is the leader for both regular season PER and playoffs PER.

Very impressive that Mike is number one considering that he was a shooting guard playing in the hand checking era, with a playing style that's not about accumulating stats at the expense of the team. In fact, players like Pippen put up virtually the same numbers playing with Jordan and without.

Wow, Lebron needed to get the third highest PER leader in NBA history just to make the playoffs in the West.

PER is just some made up stat by that stat nerd John Hollinger. Now it's taken as gospel by internet stat nerds.

PER is a flawed way of ranking players. I never liked using PER as my only method.
Does it mean that AD is better than Shaq of all people? Of course not...
BTW, warriorfan if you bash LeBron James for teaming up dont forget that Kobe teamed up with PEAK Shaq a top 10 great that had prior Finals experience. You are just proving my point from earlier.
Too easy... :facepalm

I don't think the two are equivalent. Kobe was drafted by Charlotte and traded as a draft pick to the Lakers. He didn't "team up" with Shaq like Lebron teammed up with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, or Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love.

He also won back to back chips with Pau Gasol where Lebron needed Pau Gasol level players as a 3rd option, Kobe did it with a Pau level player as a second option

I find Kobe's 2007-08 season to be the most impressive of those 3 years, despite not winning the championship.

LeBron wouldn't have "teamed up" with anyone if Cleveland had ever given him decent help :oldlol:

Again I will ask you this what supporting cast was better than Kobe's cast in 09 and 10? Btw Pau Gasol led 50 win teams to the Playoffs prior to joining Kobe and Lebron had Kyrie and Love who didnt even make the playoffs in their respective careers.
