And for anyone who has seen Shaq in person and understands that he doesn’t look like a normal really tall person.....look how small Yao makes Shaq look right now:

this was a squad right here. they could've given the '09 championship lakers a run for their money if tmac and yao were healthy.

in todays run and gun small ball vs opposing bigs who can knock down 3's I fear Yao would be a huge defensive liability that teams would exploit. it would very interesting to watch however

AD, Embiid and Jokic.

they took them to 7 games without tmac at all and yao was out for most of the series too.

the lakers were the better team and would probably still win, the point Im making is that these rockets could absolutely beat them if they were healthy. I'd give them a 40-45% chance. they were a talented team.

Wouldn't Yao be another case of Boban Marjonavic where it would be very difficult to field him against small ball lineups and lineups which utilize stretch bigs?

His lack of mobility would definitely hurt him a lot in todays league.

Him trying to defend the Golden State small ball lineup would be an absolute disaster to the point where I question if it's worth how dominant he would be offensively if he's going to be a huge liability on the defensive side of the floor.

I’d like to see a Jokic and Yao matchup. I’d also like to see a Francis, Cuttino, and Jim Jackson lineup play around Yao these days. Be hard to keep Francis out of the lane with these rules....and Cuttino and Jim were better than ok shooters at times. Be interesting at least.

kobe was a beast that season. he shit on the nuggets in the next round too. melo was completely unguardable back then kobe was better though.

those nuggets were very good. way better than the orlando magic. probably the only time I ever rooted for carmelo in my life.

since then jr smith and chris andersen aka the birdman both won rings with lebron and melo has gone ringless

They had no one that could guard Kobe tho. But that Houston team had Battier and Artest. Those dudes were as good as they come when it came down to playing tough man to man defense.

I might youtube that series later tonight.

Gobert is a liability on offense. Unless you consider putback jellies as having game.

Best offense in the league since they got Clarkson

13 in FTA
2nd in true shooting%
5th in offensive win shares
4th in offensive boards
2nd effective FG%
2nd FG%
13th off rebound %
4th offensive rating
2nd 2 point FG%
1st in screen assists

That's a liability I can live with!

He'd absolutely be elite but I don't think he'd be as elite as the era he played in.

Back in Yao's time you could get away with not being the fastest or the quickest (relative to NBA standards Yao was slow) but in today's era you generally have to be fairly fast and quick. Higher Pace + trend towards playing more towards the 3 point line would hurt Yao.

Still elite but not AS good as he was in his era.

Not really he's probably the best pick and roll bigman in the entire NBA and his efficiency around the rim is top tier

yao would have serious trouble on switches with guards nowadays with their expanded range.

RRR3

It's probably blasphemous, but I really wonder how Yao would do seeing the way Boban is treated by coaches. Boban could pretty easily average 20+ efficiently and he can barely see the court.

I remember the Jazz really working Yao in the playoffs. He couldn't guard Okur or Boozer because they could shoot from outside. Not even from 3 in Boozer's case. Wasn't even the pick and roll spam he would be seeing now. He would top out at 20 min a game today, and be a spot player for his team if they made the playoffs.

Yao only weakness is his speed against those fast phased offensive teams, otherwise lol just imagine 7'6 center with strong post move against those small ball teams 6'8 centers, BBQ chicken alert~~~~~

AD is the only one I will pick over a fully healthy Yao.

No one. Yao comes with the massive Chinese market. Close affiliations with him will bring big business for many years, even after he's retired.

If we're talking strictly on court only, then everyone. Since Yao can't stay healthy, even Brad Wanamaker will eventually be more valuable.

Longevity sucks, only have like 3 good nba seasons.

Honestly probably just Ad, Embiid is proving to be close to as fragile as Yao. But when Yao was healthy he had beast tendencies from time to time aka he wasn't dominant consistently. I always wondered could he have been better with a more aggressive approach to the game....

He did get more aggressive as time went on but the Chinese are passive. Big reason why Yi, Sun Yue, Zhi Zhi Wang, Bateer, weren't able to stick despite talent

Yao was a slow bigman with finesse post moves from what i remember. Marbury murdering him that one time is what probably happens to him on the regular if he plays in todays era lol
