View Full Version : Does anyone honestly think the league would allow Pippen to win DPOY?

Especially while playing next to MJ? Hell no. MJ was the league’s golden boy. Not a chance that they push the narrative that he actually had help.

What year do you have Pippen winning? 95?

It was the ONLY season you could probably argue for. He had a couple years impacting games on that end like a center, but 94-95 Pippen was a TERROR.

94-95 Pippen should have won back to back

Incredibly dumb thread but not surprising given who’s behind it

Pippen finished 2nd in 95 and 96 in DPOY voting

Problem is the “help” narrative wasn’t that big until you Bron stans started making excuses

Pippen anchored the best defense in the entire NBA in 96 and he still somehow didn't win it :facepalm

You should understand something about back then.......

People didn't feel the same way about Pippen as you do 25 years later

At the time, everyone knew Pippen wasn't that good and would never get any major award.

Period

Everyone knew he wasn't that caliber of player and that his weak production benefitted from the winning spotlight more than anyone in history

When I post clips of Reggie Miller, Isiah Thomas, and Magic Johnson all saying the Bulls were a 1-man team....... It means they were a 1-man team... :hammerhead:

And btw, you praise 96' Pippen, but what were his stats in those Finals or playoffs?

They knew he wasn't good even though they were selecting him for both All-NBA & All-Defensive First Teams, voting him 3rd in MVP voting, and selecting him as one of the 50 greatest players of all time? Doesn't quite check out

Exactly - he was voted those things yet everyone said the Bulls were a 1-man team and that Pippen infact sucked

That's what the winning spotlight can do for garbage production

It's like boxing with the fake belts and fake accolades.. Pippen never got the ring magazine accolade

Pippen in the 96 playoffs - 17/8/6 with top tier defense and a 7.8 BPM

Wade in the 13 playoffs - 16/4/4 with average defense and a 3.1 BPM

I'm pretty sure 96 Pippen had the highest BPM for a second option ever now that I think about it

Here's their real stats:

Per 100 Possessions - PLAYOFFS

13' Wade..... 24.5 pts... 7.4 ast... 49.8 ts
96' Pippen... 22.7 pts... 8.0 ast... 47.3 ts

Per Game - FINALS (per 100 not available)

Wade..... 20 ppg... 5 apg... 47%
Pippen... 16 ppg... 5 apg... 34%

Wade faced Nate Robinson's Knicks and Hibbert/George Pacers in the Eastern Playoffs - so he didn't need high production until the Finals.

MJ faced a much tougher East Playoffs - the Ewing Knicks, Zo/Hardaway Heat, and Shaq/Penny Magic - so better production was needed from Pip in the East Playoffs

This is actually the absolute opposite of what people thought of Pippen. There'd be a few ignorant people who went all Jordan or nothing, but over the years he's being lost because the discussion is only Jordan and who could end up better. Don't be dishonest.

Also, you brought up Pippen in a Derrick Coleman thread. I love Vegas, we should meet up and ball later this year.

MJ never was the Bull's defensive anchor for any championship run, and do you blame him? He had the helps of Tree Trunk Pippen and Dennis Rodman. MJ was an above average defender but nothing great. Pippen taught him how to win and how to play defense after MJ's failing career of 1-9.

3-ball and Jordan Jockers try to downplay Pippen's impact and all the Lebron Jockers try to uplay Pippen's real level.

Pippen was a Top 8-10 player in the 90's and was THEE BEST DEFENSIVE SF of that era aswell. He was a great defender, a good rebounder, a great passer and handler, a great driver and finisher and a good scorer but he was never a great shooter or scorer. That's why he was the perfect 2nd option. He never became a great shooter or scorer because Jordan was the one taking all the shots but 22 PPG on 49.1 % FG shows he was a good enough scorer on his own just not great. Pippen's stats would look similar to 93-95 if he had played in a team where he was the man but Jordan prevented that. Pippen was unselfish and took his role as 2nd option in order to win. He even was payed less than others. Jordan said he would not return to Chicago if Pippen wasn't his 2nd option. I wonder why? Pippen was great and a top 30-35 player of all time but don't overrate him to being of the level of the Jordan's Hakeem's Barkley's Malone's Robinson's etc he was a notch below.

Yeah, Pippen really taught MJ how to win with that 8/2/3 he put up when he got on the Bulls :lol

How old are you? I feel that this is just a random made up topic. Things were different back then. There were pretty much no internet fanboys that anyone came across anywhere for anyone to care about such a thing. I guess what I'm saying that it's such an internet fanboy topic/conspiracy theory not representative of the era. Back then people were not counting rings either, that's a current era thing. Fanboys need to simplify things in order to have an argument, specially when comparing eras that played out before they were born. In a sense, back then people where more independent in their judgement of things.

Gary Payton shouldn't of won the 96 DPOY

Should of been David Robinson or Pippen
