Pretty sure I made this thread before, but can't seem to find it, so I'll make another one. If you were a GM and had a chance to form a team that you think has the best mix of talent and chemestry, how would your roster look?
C - '77 Bill Walton | '93 Hakeem Olajuwon
PF - '86 Larry Bird | '04 Kevin Garnett
SF - '13 LeBron James | '17 Kevin Durant | '17 Kawhi Leonard
SG - '91 Michael Jordan | '08 Manu Ginobili | '16 Klay Thompson
PG - '16 Steph Curry | '14 Chris Paul
Walton is the ultimate team player, all-time great passer, high IQ, elite rebounder and rim protector, Hakeem also provides DPOY caliber defense and is unguardable in the post, Bird would be a great PF in today's league, great rebounder, passer, can score in the post and can stretch the floor, KG also has some shooting range, can guard multiple positions while giving me some rim protection, and is an elite rebounder. Not much has to be said about MJ & LeBron.
Curry for his insane shooting, since I have multiple ball dominant players I don't need a PG like Magic, Curry can play off the ball at times and provides me GOAT level shooting, I have CP3 as his backup to make up for Curry's lack of defense. Manu is also a team first guy who is insanley versatile, can handle the ball, pass, shoot and drive. Klay is the ultimate 3 & D player.
It's hard to pass on KD for obvious reasons, elite scorer, great size, great shooter and not a liability on defense. I almost went with Pippen instead of Kawhi but went with Kawhi instead, he gives me elite defense and has more range than Pippen when it comes to shooting.

great post bro. I'm sure the iverson cousy 6'0 backcourt would fare well against my backcourt of jordan and lebron. iverson already cooked jordan and cousey is a taller jj barea.

The Cousy/Mikan pick n roll would be unguardable in the modern era. Then you'd have to contend with the ferocious two way play of Carmelo/Iverson, keeping you on your toes defensively as you're never sure which one of them is gonna jack up the next shot. But the scariest part of all comes at the end of each quarter, when a frenzied pack of Westbrook/Harden/Kobe come off the bench to try hoard all the rebounds, possessions and shots that still remain
what a team.
can you imagine this guy bob cousy coming at you full-speed on the fastbreak? how's anyone gonna stop this blur?

Why wouldn't you take someone like Stockton or Kidd at PG? Curry and Nash would get abused on the defensive end. Also, I would swap Bird and KD.

Yeah I thought about that too, Nash never made any all-defense team, I just like the way he does offensively with athletic players, maybe take Lukas out for Stockton/Kidd.

You can still be a good defender while never making an All-Def team. Nash was just terrible defensively.

I pick players based on how well they would play together rather than just picking best players
I picked Channing Frye as my 12th man so I could run a pure offense 5 out lineup that could give LeBron space to drive into the paint with ease and kick it out if defenders help off

Going by primary position AND trying to avoid redundancy:
Steph-GP
MJ-Klay
Bron-KD-Bird
KG-Timmy-Rodman
Shaq-Dream
Of course on a GOAT 12 man team, Magic and Mamba would be on there. But with Bron and MJ already on my squad, I went for pure shooting (Klay) and great defense (GP).

Robinson, Curry
I'll dare any team avg more than 95PTS.
Low and mid range dominance with some people to spread the floor and both defence (Robinson) and scoring (Curry) off the bench.

I'm really diggin Klay getting spots on these teams! When u think about it, he's the BEST BLEND of pure shooting ability and defense EVER in the NBA! He's a marksman who can get you 20+PPG, one of the top 10 pure shooters of all time, and is an All Defensive team guy. He's not a top 10 SG peak-prime wise. BUT on a team where u value spacing the floor AND great defense, he kills those two birds with one stone BETTER than anybody in NBA history. When u factor in those three rings he won, Klay's gonna go down as a top 10 GOAT if he stays healthy and in his prime for a few more seasons. Three rings, best blend of shooting and defense ever, and being a top 3-5 SG in the world consistently already has him on track.

I like this lineup. And rationale.
Only alterations I’d make is
Steph / GP
MJ / Kobe / Klay
Bron / KD / Pippen
KG / Bird
Shaq / Hakeem

Kawhi and Draymond to fill out the team
I left off guys like Bron, Shaq, Kobe, Magic etc not because they aren’t great but I just feel like the synergy would work better with these guys. I think Bird is much more portable to fit any team than LeBron for example since he moves the ball much quicker while providing about the same passing/playmaking ability and he’s also an excellent shooter, and with MJ the centerpiece you have to add Pippen. Their success together speaks for itself. Went with Klay as a backup instead of Ray Allen or Reggie Miller because if his defense and ability to play as a 3rd option and excel
Draymond is the weakest player here but he excels on teams like this surrounded by talent and his defensive ability at his best is up there with the best of all time. Not as far as shutting anyone down but pairing him with Pippen and Hakeem, KG or DRob would just be brutal with the different ways they can dominate defensively in any era. Add CP3, MJ and Kawhi to that mix and it’s a nightmare defensively. Dray doesn’t need to provide triple doubles on a team like this so his triple singles with excellent defense and quality passing will be appreciated
Dirk of course spaces the floor for guys like Hakeem/DRob so the paint doesn’t get crowded. Having Curry/CP3 there will maximize Dirk even more since they’ll get him super efficient shots
This team doesn’t have any weaknesses and I think most of them complement each other excellently. I want to add KD and it may be worth it to trade out Draymond for him but I’m cool with this squad

Klay is perfect reserve guy for a team like this. Not ball dominant, probably the 2nd greatest shooter ever behind Curry and provides very good man defense.
