As a supplement to the Last Dance documentary, Bills Simmons will choose an MJ game for the next 6 weeks for a deeper analysis as to why it was an integral and definitive milestone of MJ's career.

Not that I know of. I wonder if they'll choose a game per championship series.

You gotta assume the Flu Game & Game 6 are locks, after that my guess would be
Shrug Game
One of his 50 point games in '93 (maybe both)
Game 7 vs Indy maybe

Flu Game definitely. Game 6 definitely. But I hope they are a little more unconventional and choose games that aren't shown on NBA TV every 2 weeks.

Agreed, this was a first good choice, definitely not a game where all the details are already known

Haven't watched the video but I'm confused by why they chose this game. MJ had 29/9/9 on 11-28 FG. Struggled shooting for most of the game until coming up big late. Surely the game to chose from the '91 Finals would be Game 2. Must-win game for Bulls at home while down 0-1 and MJ comes up with a perfect performance.

For what it's worth, Game 3 is my favorite of the whole series. It's the swing game. The impossible shot over Divac to send the game to OT. It was the game where Chicago and LA both felt an equal amount of confidence they would win. Magic and MJ both played more than 50 mins, I believe. It was over after this game even though the Lakers didn't know it yet. The Bulls knew.

Game 5 was my favourite of the 91 series. MJ and Scottie both dominant on each end, and Paxson was money playing off MJs double teams.

It's a MJ focus. Pippen was the story for Game 2.
DR, agree, hopefully they sprinkle in games that aren't aired regularly on NBA TV.

Listened to this yesterday. Good listen. Like the fact that they aren't picking the layman's games.

Just watched it. I'm sold. They are going in deep and not talking about the usual highlight reel stuff. Near the end they brought up the Charles Smith game as a pivotal game so I hope that game is next. While everyone wants to talk about the 54 point game or the 6 threes in the first half game, this duo wants to talk about the Charles Smith game. I love it.

How old are you? The guy who led the Bulls to the blowout was the one who went 15-18 and hit 13 straight shots to leave the Lakers looking shellshocked. Atleast attempt to sound less of an idiot.

I tried watching some of these but they only scratch superficial layer shit and often say dumb shit.
They clearly don't know the Xs and Os, they contradict themselves repeatedly, and simply repeat old myths and narratives.

True. There are some gems embedded in there so I still think it's worth a watch. These are more like conversation starters.

I need more of this. Rusillo/Simmons are my favorite when it comes to shit like this but Xs and Os are like the one thing they won't touch on. They'll go in from the media/agent perspective though. Kobe's Detail stuff is the only good Xs and Os deep dive i've seen.

Bill SImmons is kind of inconsistent. In one podcast he is praising the 95 Magic, in the other podcast he is saying the 96 Magic didn't have a lot of players and were overrated.
They werent that different. He is shitting on Anderson, Scott, etc

He can be inconsistent because he tends to go by how things feel. "It just felt like..." That doesn't invalidate his opinion. He does add a lot of weight by adding his experience attending games and some statistical analysis. He also adds in some cultural references that go a long way to illustrate his points. Some go left but overall, they're more hit than miss.
Bill Simmons has a unique way of bringing you into the moment. He's not an X's and O's guy. He doesn't give the coach's perspective. You need to go somewhere else for that. He brings in the perspective of an emotive, invested super fan. So he can go back and forth and even trip over himself sometimes but I enjoy reading and listening to him even when I disagree.

I don't need to watch a 30 minute video when I can figure this puzzle out with a simple picture:
https://www.dailyherald.com/storyimage/DA/20110811/sports/708119740/EP/1/2/EP-708119740.jpg&updated=201108112126&MaxW=900&maxH=900&noborder&Q=80
Bulls do not have Dennis Rodman in 1995 and lose to Magic
Bulls do have Dennis Rodman in 1996 and win against Magic
It sound simple (and it can't be that simple in the end) but that is pretty damn much the answer. Surprise, surprise.

It is funny MJ himself said it after the loss to Orlando: "We are a Horace Grant (i.e., an elite D and rebounding PF) away." That isn't the story that has been written after the fact.
