probably dont win the 6th ring, but better set up for the future?
that would been a franchise altering move, the trajectory of the Bulls in the post Jordan years would have been completely different

It was the right choice. They probably dont win a chip with tracy in the place of pip and phil and mike were gonna be gone after 98 anyway. Its not like tracy was a great winner or anything. Not sure what kind if difference he would of made

T Mac rode the bench his first two years. People assume every high schooler dominated out the gate because LeBron did it.

Would have been a terrible deal especially if McGrady leaves for Orlando when his contract is up. The Bulls haven't won a ring since MJ. The lesson is that if you can win a championship you always postpone the record.

Exactly. Chip windows are rare and you never know when it will close (as the Bulls painfully learned in 2012). If you can, go for it.

Love TMac.

I don't understand why Krause is the only villain in all of this. Reinsdorf should be held more responsible for letting this go on, but for whatever he goes unscathed and even seems like he still has a good relationship with Jordan, Phil, etc.
His commentary about Pippen's contract situation was absolutely absurd. He tried to come across as someone giving Pippen good financial advice that Pippen didn't take so he should be held responsible for it - yet says don't talk to him about renegotiating your contract when he feels underpaid? Well, if Reinsdorf had the power to restructure his contract, then why not? Pippen's perspective was completely understandable given his family situation and Reinsdorf probably lost a ton of money by breaking up the dynasty with Pippen's unhappiness being one of the driving factors.

I don't think Reinsdorf had the ability to renegotiate a contract anyway ... how exactly is that supposed to work?
The other NBA owners would've forced Stern to intervene and stop that because you can't have players in mid-contract saying "well now I feel like being paid more". Imagine the situation was reversed and an owner decided to pay a player less half way through their contract, the NBAPA would sh*t a brick.

And why exactly would a player agree with the latter?

I thought I read somewhere that they could back then, but maybe I'm wrong. If that's the case though, I don't know what Pippen was so angry about.
Either way, Reinsdorf picked Krause over all these guys, rebuilding over potentially more championships, and gave up a ton of money. Its inexcusable.
At least in Krause's case, it was somewhat understandable to feel that way given all the bad blood he had with these guys.

They wouldn't obviously, the point is you can't expect owners to be OK with the opposite, they would be just as outraged. When you sign a contract, it's a done deal ... Pippen was an immature idiot for acting the way he did. If Jordan behaved the same way it would be quoted up and down 50 different times, and Jordan was similarly underpaid by the Bulls himself for many years to boot. Danny freaking Ferry was higher paid than Michael Jordan in 1991.
