Scottie was beloved by all of us because he was such a perfect complement to Michael. Michael was the hardass...Scottie was the one who balanced everything out.

Steve Kerr makes the point that Scottie Pippen would dominate in today's league and "would guard 1 through 5 every game."

Interesting news to me who has been a NBA fan since late 70's, it was always portrayed that Phil's zen wizardry was the reason he could balance out so many talented heads.

Lots of cool off the record classified tape coming to light of 90's chicago bulls team that even old heads like myself never knew.

Did you know that Jordan has more playoff series losses then CUrry?
thanks a fond fact that i was never aware of. however to be fair back in the 80's-90's you could make the playoffs on a 30 win teams, -20 games under .500. in todays league you simply cannot. for example Curry's 2011, 2012 warriors who missed the playoffs perhaps may have secured a 7th seed in 1987 racking stephen up more playoff iconic 2nd qt buzzer beaters in 1st rnd losses

Feel like this Scottie Pippen dunk at college from The Last Dance has gone largely unnoticed and needed to be posted

MJ probably wins at least one chip without Pippen, but he isn't winnng that 6 again. The man needed multiple elite level defensive anchors and rebounders such as Scottie, Rodman, Grant, etc. MJ truly was a one dimensional scoring machine. And he needed Pippen. I think of MJ as Bradley Beal on steroids.

If you watched it without bias back then it was completely obvious. Not many of the people I grew up with actually had MJ as their FAVORITE player except people that didn't play much, if at all, but loved the videos and shoes.

This was known to people who followed the team closely. Jackson, the players on the team all said similar things about Pippen's leadership. It just got lost over the years in the deluge of "Look how awesome MJ is as a leader!" hype. Jordan's leadership "style" wouldn't work without Pippen, Jackson being there to smooth it out (and earlier Cartwright was a captain as well).

Every alpha needs a beta.

Look at LeBron, he had no alpha to mentor and coddle him in the first Cavs spell which is why he couldnt get over the line. When he ran to cuddle up to D-Wade, the missing alpha, he finally succeeded.

It's no shame, some people are better being number 2s.

I haven't heard any of his teammates say he was "beta". All his teammates and coaches say Pippen was a great leader, the leader. People keep trying to throw wolf psychology or comic book templates onto basketball teams.
