He took a losing bulls team with a Young Jordan to its first playoff in a long time
significantly improved their win record after joining.
but got immediately fired after losing to the Pistons

Later on he took a job with the Grant Hill era Pistons, improved their record by 18 more wins

if the bulls didn't fire him and gave him more time, could he eventually win a championship with the Bulls?

yeah watching episode 3 right now

I doubt it. He and MJ clashed and Collins was not able to convince MJ to play more team ball ("He won't let go of the ball"). Jackson was able to do so and then Winter's triangle offense helped promote more ball movement inherently.

If he stayed maybe they win 1, not 3, but his firing was inevitable if he and the team's superstar were at loggerheads.

^ hmm watching the documentary
it said Doug Collins clashed with Tex Winter
Collins wanted to run everything through MJ
Winter wanted to do the triangle.
Jerry favored the triangle and out went Colins, and PJ got promoted.
