And how do they compare to the Wings in today's era?

Vinnie Johnson. Dude had tree trunks for thighs. Built like a linebacker.

The 90s was a weaker talent era so its not fair to compare 90s to 2010s. Just like if you compare 90s to 70s. Michael faught hard in those 90s. His toughest wings are 145 pound Reggie Miller and probably Clyde 'the glide" Drexler and Mitch Richmond. Not much but all he can do is beat them as they come for him.

Here's MJ against an average 90's defender

Even Ordan stans have to admit there crush played in a weak era for his position especially when you consider the crop that came up in the late 90s. Besides Drexler everyone else was only good or worse at the sg. (yes, sorry Miller fans, he wasn't anything special. Jordan's "Sidekick" Pippen was a much better player than he ever was himself) Jordan was pretty much blessed to have the best sg/sf playing alongside him throughout his championship years.

Absolutely. Always surprised how solid Vinnie was.

Whole post is impossible to compare. Completely different game.

Eg. Would you prefer to be fouled in 90s or now... I think of the pistons and knicks frontcourts particularly.

Some of the most physical players in nba history played the position in the 90s at one point which is not that hard to look up. Sixers Barkley, Rodman, Mason, Larry Johnson, Xavier Mcdaniel etc.

OP has a point. I'm not one of those people who try to discredit Jordan, but as I was watching his documentary, I couldn't help noticing that he was guarded by a much smaller player in Starks.

That was the first three peat against one team. I seem to remember checking the stats and the average SG was taller than than the average shooting guard today. By a slight bit. Well, the average shooting guard like 7 years ago when I checked. Would Houston had done a better job than Starks?

Teams would try putting larger players on Jordan. Like Rodman. Like Anthony Mason. Steve Smith. etc. etc.

I'll save you the suspense and skip to the ending .... it didn't work. Jordan would score the same amount.

Even though modern wings are bigger, the 90s had far bigger centers, I'd rather have Giannis on the wings to worry about instead of Shaq or Hakeem sitting in the lane waited to swat away your shot.

This truly needs to be put ISH's dumbest comments thread. None of these players are over 200 pounds??? Do you know how absolutely, pathetically stupid you are by stating this? Just asinine.

Sean Kemp was 240
Clyde Drexler 210-220
Chambers 230
Mason 250
Woolridge 220

Tons of the others were well over 200 pounds. A simple google search could have told you that. :facepalm

Height isn't everything on defense. See Payton, Dumars, and Tony Allen. Short fast players with a low center of gravity can reak havoc. Or just ask LeBron how hard it was for him to post up JJ Barea in 2011.

Starks was extremely physical, a fiery competitor (which could sometimes work against him) and he was allowed to put his hands and whole body all over Jordan during the Bulls' wars with the Knicks. He was very quick laterally and an explosive athlete. There was an old SI photo I can no longer find showing him almost rim level on a dunk. He was a fine player both then and now, not a store clerk like the braindead ISH trolls think. He'd put a world of hurt on plenty of wings in today's game, just like he did in the 90's.

You have midgets like isiaih Thomas averaging 29pts/game in modern NBA, and scoring 50+ pts in playoff games. Yes, the best Cavs has faced in 2017 ECF was a midget. Tells you a lot about this era...

But think to this, Which mj opponent was stronger than the 2017 celtics 1seed + depth?

So many teams it's not even funny. Look at a team like 97 Washington bullet with Webber, Juan howard, Rod Strickland can match this team with ease.

Celtics 2017 overachieved, that was a very young team. in fact Cavs, defending champions should have been 1st seed.

Those eastern conference teams with no superstars, like Hawks 2016, Derozan Toronto wouldn't have won anything in any era.

Full Retard. Scottie Pippen was a “much better player than he ever was himself” ... I’ve officially heard it all.

Or that Carlos Arroyo's Puerto Rico team took gold from LeGOAT. Or Barea put the fear in Bron in 2011. Or that Nash won back to back MVP in LeGOATs era, a player who probably would never sniff top 5 in MVP voting let alone win 2 MVPs in MJs era.

We can do this all day on both sides. LOL.

Yea the athleticism argument is pretty silly. There has always been a good mix of athletically gifted vs non-athletically gifted players in NBA history.

Luka comes to mind, but so does Paul Pierce, Tim Duncan, Steve Nash, Dirk, Klay Thompson, Jokic, Middleton, etc. And let's not forget the greats like Bird.

you are discussing history based on one small vid / that's why guys like you never ask questions... from people who watched different eras'.
