View Full Version : Why did LeBron only play with an All-NBA teammate 4 times in 17 seasons?
Mamba4Life

2011 Wade - All-NBA 2nd team
2012 Wade - All-NBA 3rd team
2013 Wade - All-NBA 3rd team
2015 Kyrie - All-NBA 3rd team
So only 4 all-nba teammates in 17 seasons, and only once had an All-NBA 2nd team teammate or better
Why?

Couldnt make it with him. (??)
Pau Gasol never made one before Kobe.
And then there's Anthony Davis... :facepalm

Lol. Lebron stans bounce between:

It just depends on what point they 'think' they're trying to prove.
Truth be told, Lebron has played with more All-Stars in NBA history than any other player.
Doesn't change the fact that bran actually played with former fmvp dwyane wade when the former won his first chip way back 8 years ago.

Gasol was not an all-star his final three years with Kobe. He leaves and becomes an all-NBA 2nd team player in Chicago so we can't attribute it to Kobe.

So both Pau and Bosh... across their entire careers made 1 All NBA team a piece outside kobe and lebron respectively.
But we all know pau was better with Lakers than he was anywhere else.
Cant say the same for Bosh & Love.

:coleman:
Bosh made one all-NBA team total in his career, four years before LeBron, so LeBron didn't stop a trend of all-NBA selections. Gasol made four all-NBA teams. Gasol improved when he joined Kobe and he improved after he left Kobe. Maybe I am biased but I remember him being a pleasant surprise in Chicago (the best FA signing in the Reinsdorf era--Boozer and Wallace were busts).
Comparing Bosh to the other second tier PFs of his era (so the guys behind Dirk and KG) he made 1, Boozer made 1, Gasol 4, Amare and Aldridge 5 each. He benefited from lazy media writers since it was easier to write "3 superstars" than "2 superstars and a third perennial all-star." I am surprised he got the hype he did during that offseason. Amare was playing at a MVP level in the second half of 2010 (on a contender) but Bosh got more hype.
Love was all-NBA his last two healthy years before LeBron and he was a second teamer both times so not a borderline selection. I think LeBron deserves some blame for Love's struggles in Cleveland.
Wade is another one you can blame LeBron partly for. The timing was bad as they paired for the tail end of Wade's prime but they did not mesh well together due to redundancies.
LeBron doesn't have a great track record integrating stars overall so that is a legit critique. Bosh, Love, Wade all regressed. Irving has been about the same with or without LeBron. Davis is the only one who thrived with LeBron, which has been a surprise.

Simply just because they've won more in the finals? Lmao very amusing.
Why did Duncan win 4 NBA Championships WITHOUT ANY All-NBA team mate? And the fifth with only a second team All-NBA team mate (Parker)? Some of these questions - sheesh.

Unfortunately Duncan gets under appreciated, but don't you worry since most fans has him as the GOAT PF and higher rank than Lebron
But to answer OP's question: Lebron turns every player into spot shooters. Lebron doesn't make anyone better, he needs to play with already established stars to win

What the **** are you smoking? When Wade was 100% healthy with LeBron in 2011, he was still putting up MVP numbers and was in MVP contention as well. Wade's knees were shot after the '11 season. In '12, Wade missed significant time, due to various injuries. His playing time dropped by about 4 minutes a game as well. Injuries are the reason why Wade regressed after the 2011 season. Irving had his best ever season (until that point) WITH LeBron. Tons of his teammates had their most efficient seasons while playing WITH LeBron. AD and LeBron being a monster duo was surprising? Maybe of people who have never watched LeBron play.

Yeah, just no. LeBron is universally ranked in the top 3 and is in conversations with the likes of Jordan and Kareem. Duncan? Not so much.

When Wade was 100% healthy with LeBron in 2011, he was still putting up MVP numbers and was in MVP contention as well
Wade in 2010: 27/5/7 on 48%, 1st team all-NBA, 5th in MVP voting
Wade in 2011: 26/6/4 on 50%, 2nd team all-NBA, 7th in MVP voting
So a slight regression then a bigger drop in 12' and then another decline in 14'. Yeah, injuries were a factor but redundancies between LeBron and Wade were too. They tried to be 1a/1b the first year and it didn't work. Wade took a backseat after that and they won 2 chips.
Irving had his best ever season (until that point) WITH LeBron
Irving 13'-14': 22/4/6 on 44%
Irving 15'-17': 22/3/5 on 47%
Irving 18'-19': 24/4/6 on 49%
As I said, he has basically been the same before, with, and after LeBron.
Tons of his teammates had their most efficient seasons while playing WITH LeBron
True, non-stars play better with him.
AD and LeBron being a monster duo was surprising?
How did his previous big men work out with him? That they meshed so well was not a given.

Most people have Lebron ranked 8-12 zone.

Bro, you're legitimately making shit up, and just letting your feelings get in the way of having any reasonable discussion. "Most people" having LeBron ranked 8-12 is factually incorrect, it's like arguing the earth is flat. I want to see evidence of this claim. I'll even help you out, forget having him ranked 8-12, I want to see 3 rankings, post 2016 Finals, that have LeBron outside the top 5. Again, if "most people" have LeBron ranked roughly 10th like you claim, and I'm spotting you an extra 5 spots in the rankings to work with, this should be an incredibly easy task for you to do. It'd be like finding 3 rankings that have Shaq or Duncan top 10. If you back out or refuse, you're only conceding that you were full of shit

Oh you want to use these polls that you claim "legit". How about that NBA.com poll POST 2016 that majority of the fans think Kobe is better than Lebron (KennethGriffen was spamming the pic). Or how about majority of ex players think Kobe is better than Lebron
Did that make you go on suicide watch son? Kobe is not a top 5 GOAT, yet your boy Lebron can't even beat him on an offical NBA.com poll. So most people think Lebron is ranked below Kobe according to that source. Are you going to argue that NBA.com is not a legit source and that ESPN, Nick Wright, and other nonsense is?
Here's some news for you kid, don't believe everything you see or hear in the media.

Slaying these Lebron stans is not something I am proud of
I'm won't disagree enough if someone tells me Lebron is top 10
What I have an issue is when they claim Lebron is Top 5.
When someone claims that Lebron in the top 5, that to me is an insult to the game of basketball. (I ignore trolls such as wheels, hits alts, and burger boy red1)
My top 5 are cemented for now Jordan, KAJ, Russ, Magic, Bird.
All these players actually has true basketball "skills" and perfect their own craft in what they do best
Let's be honest, Lebron has average (that's me being nice) basketball skills for someone that is arguably top 10.. His footwork, dribble, ball handing, etc are really quite poor compare to other greats

Irving, Love, Bosh were perennial all-star types but not all-NBA caliber guys outside of a few random seasons. Irving made two all-NBA in nine years, Bosh once in his entire career, Love twice.
It is a shame for LeBron that Wade declined prematurely due to injuries in Miami. Then he gets Davis at age 35. We didn't see LeBron spend the bulk of his prime with a perennial all-NBA caliber player, like other legends did.

2 perennial all-star types > 1 all NBA
Especially when their stats destroy pippen's - Wade, Love, and Kyrie's stats destroy Pippen's
And especially when both all-stars achieved self-made accolades before ever playing with lebron... so we know their accolades are legit and not a result of the winning spotlight or lucky situation
Ultimately, only the Heat/Spurs and Cavs/Warriors had 3 perennial all-stars from 11-17', so they made all the Finals in that time period... obviously, it's much easier to hop onto 1 of the 2 Finals-caliber teams, then playing in a league with many Finals-caliber teams like MJ did (because 2-stars was Finals-caliber, so more teams qualified, aka parity)
