View Full Version : What is the worst part about coronavirus killing a bunch of old people?

Like... I’m actually asking.

Do you believe you honestly “care about every life” because that’s really how humans are evolved to feel?

Or is that perhaps just years of conditioning and pressure to think/act a certain way, to appease society and get ahead? Years of reading hallmark cards and hearing John Lennon sing about “all you need is love” and lots of commercials on TV showing you starving kids while sad music plays.

If you really believe humans evolved to compete from primitive origins, as most leftists will loudly and adamantly tell you they do... what objective value can you see in a greater number of elderly people taking up resources?

Personally Im not broken up about coronavirus knocking off some of the world’s 80+ year old population. Just like I dont expect random people to give a shit if I die. There’s so much token, insincere sentiment around this stuff.

I dont sit around wishing for such a thing but I also find shutting the planet down to stop it pretty outlandish. It makes no sense for 90% of the population.

I know a lot of sensitive types will grandstand and play the role of the social soapboxer because they think itll score them some kind of pvssy points. Guys like itsmillertime or bladefd etc, who have no real substance or relevance, who will make themselves into any kind of sentimental poser the media tells them to, as they feel it’s their only ticket to social approval.

But I gotta be be me, fellas.

And I just dont really gaf about this thing, because it simply isnt very dangerous to the majority of young, healthy people in society.

Just had to get that off my chest.

This is mostly true. 9 out of 10 times the answer is money. 65+ are the most wealthy age group by far, they hold the most positions of power in the government through their positions and their lobbies. When it gets down to the nitty gritty, self preservation trumps all, no pun intended. Old people are scared, plain and simple. Wether they really should be is a different debate all together. However fact remains the same that they are fearful and on edge.

Yes. It’s basically a rehash of the gun control debate. **** over everyone for the theoretical savior of a few.

It's normal to want to live the last stage of your life free from danger after spending your days working hard specifically TO live that stage.

Maybe your older relatives or whoever should subject you to danger? How do you feel about that? Are you capable of empathy at all? You will be old one day and likely look back on your words, unless you actually hate yourself and everyone else that isn't LeBron James.

Unless someone has been directly affected by a death in their family or circle of friends, nobody gives a shit about strangers dying.

Yeah... this isn't true

Even then, I dont think I would support the lockdowns or other totalitarian nonsense.

I have seen a fair amount of death over the past few years. My best friend since childhood was one of the ~68k americans to die from an opiate overdose last year, but I dont think we should ban the prescription pain killers that originally sparked his addiction. I have lost several family and friends to cancer in the past ~5ish years, but I dont think we should shut down every aspect of society that might increase cancer risk in an attempt to reduce the ~500k cancer deaths that happen in this country each year.

The sad reality of life is that people die every day for all kinds of reasons, sometimes they even die from a cold/flu... and if I knew someone who died from the flu, I definitely would not want society to start locking down every flu season.

I'm telling you I care about the lives of others. I donate to charity somewhat regularly in hopes that it helps keep strangers alive.

People die everyday for all kinds of reason so lets make no efforts to save anyone? Makes no sense.

If there is a huge spike in opiate deaths, we should absolutely look into what caused it and adjust.

Life expectancy has risen over time because society constantly adjusts to what's killing us. And advancement in medicine that saves "old people"

Of course we should make reasonable efforts to save lives... my point is that shutting down all of society is not a reasonable response to cancer or opiates or covid.

Life expectancy has risen over time because society constantly adjusts to what's killing us. And advancement in medicine that saves "old people"

Life expectancy is influenced by a ton of variables, but the biggest influences have been things like sanitation systems and dramatic improvements with childbirth and infant mortality. Slightly prolonging the deaths of some ~80 year olds has virtually zero effect on life expectancy... saving the life of a single young person moves the needle more than having dozens of 80 year olds get their lives prolonged to 81.

Anyway I'm glad you brought up life expectancy. Japan has the highest life expectancy and oldest population age of any country on the entire planet and they have not had any lockdown... they have ~500 total covid deaths despite having ~125m residents packed into some of the densest cities on the planet. FFS the Japanese subway systems have not even slowed down... look up japanese subways on youtube.

an additional 130,000,000 (not a typo) this year are about to starve because of the economic effects due to the virus. nobody on this forum besides me has even mentioned them. ppl act like they care, but they just feel "safe" and "virtuous" when a gov't politician tells other people to stay home indefinitely

Yep.

Actually, if this shut down could result in the global population dropping down enough to something a bit more sustainable, I'd be all for it.

130,000,000 is a nice number, but still a drop in the bucket.

Still gonna have to clear out a lot of rain forests for palm oil, and over-fish a lot of oceans to feed 7 billion.

But hey, when society conditions your thoughts and emotions for you, things only matter when the TV tells you they matter.

"We gotta UNITE, and fight this virus TOGETHER. Because we are strong, and when we bond together there is no challenge we can't overcome. *soft music starts playing* THANK YOU to all the brave heroes working in hospitals right now. Thank you to the teachers, for all you've done. We're in this crisis together, as one people. This is an emotional message meant to manipulate the reactions you've been conditioned to have to certain cues. Because even though you physically assaulted someone for wearing a red hat a few months ago, simply to show you deserve acceptance and approval, now the way you can look like a leader is to talk about how strong we are together, and how we are ALL part of this fight. Thank you to everyone who is repeating shmaltzy sentimental cliches. *slow motion video of parents playing in the yard with young kids* THANK YOU to everyone who is obeying your government and staying inside because the same people who think the world will end in 12 years are telling you to do so. And in both cases they claim to have been advised of this by 'teh scientists.'"

THANK YOU.
