If the Rockets won't resign Mike D Antoni after his contract expires this season. They might offer a contract to Jeff Van Gundy as their next Coach.

It would be interesting to see how a defense-first coach like JVG dealt with that roster and whether or not he would get on Harden's case. I think they'd have to at least partially rebuild, 6'6 center is a gimmick that JVG wouldn't be trying to go with long-term. But I'm not sure the NBA would let him back in,even now. There were some major issues between the league and JVG (https://www.espn.com/nba/playoffs2005/news/story?id=2051807). Stern is gone as the commissioner but any commissioner is representing the will of the owners, not just himself. It's been 15 years but I still wonder ifthere's still some owners that would have strong objections.

I read the news on facebook. You can actually google it, and some of the sports website posted the news.

Got to have shooters around Westbrook. Would need an offensive coordinator.

They already have an offensive coordinator and that may be at the heart of why they are looking ro move forward from D'Antoni. Offense would still be important with JVG but that roster would not be for him.

Offense was never his strong suit. The game has changed a lot since he coached

The game has changed but it's not like he doesn't understand it. If a team brought him in they would be doing it because they want to improve their defense. Otherwise hiring him makes no sense. And if Houston wants to do that their going to have to get some real bigs.

Obviously he would be hired to improve the defense. Wouldn't want the offense to turn to shit though. The opposite happened in Utah. Finally put shooters around Gobert but the defense fell off considerably

Then they would have to change the roster. Van Gundy's defense has always had a shot blocker at center. Ewing, Camby; Yao, Mutombo. He may allow for a stretch 4 but that guy will have to be able to rebound.

With Westbrook he will have to be able to shoot as will everyone else on the floor
