Who was Shaqs toughest finals opponent?

His toughest finals opponent was Hakeem.

Its between 2000 and 2002.

2000 - He carried Kobe when Kobe was closer to a Kris Middleton level player than a superstar player

2002 - He went against a great Kings team and carried Lakers while Kobe struggled

Weak finals opponents when they won but Sacramento probably should have won that series in 02'.

true, but what was the best ring he won

I'd say the 2000 season. That was his most dominant and the best season for LA. Not to mention how much he dominated in that finals. The Pacers also took LA to 6 games where as the Sixers and Nets got demolished.

2006 Mavs ring, his down 0-2... I know Wade carried him but in term of best opponents it is the Dirk Mavs.

Axe

And to think they didn't have the homecourt advantage. Plus, they beat a 64-win pistons team in the ecf. It was also GP's first ring too for how many years.

Shaq was a major side kick by then

I'm fairly certain it was everyone first ring on that squad besides Shaq.

You don't realize that the reason why i mentioned GP here is because he was chasing a ring before he finally retires?

I get your reason, and I wasn't contradicting your point. Merely adding an addendum to it. It was also Zos first and only ring.

Pretty easily '01.

Back to back 40/20 games to start off the series against the Kings, outplayed Duncan in the WCF, and dominated a DPOY-winning Mutombo to the tune of 33/16/5/3 blocks on 57% shooting.

Here we go with what? Why are you perceiving my comments like I was trying to start something? If you take issue with people commenting on your posts then why do post on a message board? You're a really odd dude.

Who said I was reacting to something I didn't like? You made a comment that Payton won his only ring or whatever and I merely added that alot of guys won their only ring that year. Wasnt intended to be taken any other way but at face value. You reacted like I was trying to argue with you or that you get to pick and choose what sort of replies you get. That's not how this works.

I find you boring and weird. Everytime I see your posts it's like this oddball 'whatever pops into your head' comment that rarely adds anything tangible to the discussion. If I bore you then fukk off and put me on ignore. Or wrap your head around the fact that you're on a message board and if I feel compelled to reply to your comments I will, whether you're bored by that isnt my problem.

Nothing paranoid about my reply. If anything your first response to me bordered on paranoia because you chose to take it as an attack on your point as opposed to just me adding to it even after I explained that it was only intended to be that. So anyways, do you.

So I'm a dork, and you're a fukking moron. And life goes on. I tried to extend the olive branch like 5 posts ago when I said I was just adding to your point. I wasnt trying to argue with you. But even then, you decided to be snarky and keep the conversation going. And now you're trying the oh so transparent tactic of saying I'm trying to be the last to respond like you arent doing the same. I said carry on and do you an hour ago, I was already done with the conversation. At this point yeah, if you gonna keep chirping back then I'm gonna do the same. So what's it gonna be?

Shaqs best ring overall was 2001. Best level of frontline competition from round one through the finals:

Sabonis/Rasheed
Divac/Webber
Duncan/Robinson
Mutumbo DPOY( dropped 33/16/5 57%)

It's arguably the GOAT playoff run and Shaq was the best player. Pretty hard to trump that.

2002 was his luckiest run.

Wouldn't say 2001 due to him & Kobe being 1a & 1b, though it was their best run. 2000 is more impressive to me because Kobe wasn't on that level yet and Shaq was at his best statistically and really worked hard going into that season to be in the best shape of his career, he was also the clear #1 guy on that team and had slightly better numbers.

I guess it depends on how you look at it. Its weighing Kobes role between 2000 and 2001 versus Shaqs direct frontline competition in those respective years. Just off the finals Shaqs domination of Mutumbo is more impressive than Smits even if his numbers against Smits was better.

That's a fair argument, though Mutombo was almost 35 at that point. Him winning DPOY that year was strange as well with him having played over half the season on a lottery Hawks team that was below-average defensively for the 2nd straight year.

True but I don't think 'prime' Mutumbo would have had tangibly more success. 2001 Shaq would have been too much for any version of Dikembo. Really, I don't think any singular defender throughout history could have done much with Shaq at that point. But in general, I think 2000 and 2001 are both right answers to the question. I believe 2001 for my stated reasons but what he did in 2000 was also too dominant to develop much of a solid argument against.

Just want to add something since I can't edit my first page post:

Shaq best ring imo is first finals ring, he proved him self he is best player in the league, he averaged 38/16 vs Pacer, that was his best ring.

I mentioned 2006 cuz it was his strongest opponent by far that he win against.
