View Full Version : World's 25 Best Professional Basketball Players Of All Time

Euroleague

FIBA international Olympic committee 25 best players of international basketball history. Not a 1-25 ranking, just an overall list. So like the NBA's 50 Greatest Players list. But unlike the NBA greatest 50 list, it's divided up by 5 players for each one of the 5 main positions.

Career performance in professional worldwide basketball taken into consideration, at the senior pro club and senior men's national team levels. Weighted mostly to the NBA, and then to the EuroLeague, and then to various other pro leagues after that for club play. Weighted mostly to the three major FIBA national team competitions. Summer Olympics and FIBA World Cup first, then FIBA EuroBasket, and then to various other international competitions after that.

Melo internationally was a problem. More than Bird was in his last 15 minutes of basketball before his back was fused straight.

And Yao is high.

Worst list of all time.
USSR have 2 gold olympic medals (2nd all time after USA), 4 silver medals (best with YUG), 3 bronze (best with Brasil and LTU).
14!!! Eurobasket titles, second best is Yugoslavia with 8.
3rd place in World cup titles behind USA and 1 less title than YUG.

And all they give us is 1 player in Sabonis who represented LTU half of his career?

Meanwhile YUGs who won significantly less than us get 5!!!

CANADA?! That won nothing ever, get 1? Best result silver olympic medal at 1936? WTF?

France who won 1 eurobasket in their existance get 1.

Greece? Germany? China? Bum basketball teams that barely won anything, all get 1 player.

Before his injuries, Arvydas Sabonis was one of the best centers in the world including NBA centers.

They didn't rank them. They are just listed in no order. So same way NBA did the top 50 players list.

Imagine sitting around making lists and being concerned about other peoples lists' :lol

Well, the workers probably don't care, since they get paid. And I would guess the committee does it on the clock also.

And no Galis?

Personally, I'd take him over some guards on that list, like Sasha Djordjevic and Tony Parker. But in comparison to them career-wise, it seems fair. Galis never made a EuroLeague Final, and he only made two finals in major FIBA tournaments (one gold and one silver at EuroBasket). Comparatively speaking, that's no way in hell enough to make such a list. Stats-wise he should have made it, as that would seem to be the main reason why Oscar Schmidt made it.

Although at the same time, using that criteria of not winning enough major team titles, then Nash and Yao shouldn't be on the list either, considering they didn't win anything that mattered either.

Oscar Schmidt is the only player on that list that never played in the NBA.

im gonna watch this guys highlights and read up on him because i vaguely remember his name somehow.

i feel like there are a lot of players who never played in the NBA that were ridiculously good at basketball, where things tend to be just an athletic freakshow.

I'm not sure I get the point of the thread. You're saying that only about 10 of the world's top 25 pro ballers are American?

I will certainly check out all these players at some point soon, though.

I think John Stockton should be one of the best PG

He played 7 MPG on the Dream Team--even Laettner played more than Stockton on the DT.
