Bird absolutely dominates the 4th quarter and crunchtime, outplaying Jordan here.
LB: 32/14/6 on 52%FG
Mike: 30/11/7 on 30%FG
The legend was a BEAST! Keep in mind, '87 was Jordan's PEAK scoring year too.

Nothing more eye pleasing to me than watching a Bird vid.
Guess what? It's the same bird who won the fmvp in '84 after the celtics went 8-0 against the lakers in the finals with a choking magic.

Bird was a bad dude, see those claw marks on his neck at the end of the clip?

Bird and the celtics always outplayed his team.

Bird fending off bears out there :lol
Last shot to seal the game was sick. Didn't even look at the rim, and just squared up. That fade looked tough to block.

Bird just sonning Jordan and the Bulls. Shedding blood in the process. Turn arounds, mini-fade-aways, reverse-no look and one.
Awesome.
Jordan looked one-dimensional. His game wasnt ready.

Bird's back, Len Bias... If the Celtics had managed to keep it together, the battles with the Pistons and the up and coming Bulls would have been epic. Bird staying fit is one of the great what ifs. He was the one Jordan contemporary that could match him in toughness and mentality.

There's only been 3 players that I've ever seen with this type of "killer" instinct, Bird, MJ, and Kobe.

That shot at 2:38 when he faked the overhead pass and turned it into a flat-footed rainbow....I don't even know how you prepare for that defensively. Crazy.

Always felt that no one rivals Bird as far as sheer talent is concerned.

He had rivals in talent but in terms of skills and IQ I don't think he takes a backseat to anyone. Peak Bird was seeing matrix code out there.

Agenda thread? Bird good! MJ bad!

Way more than that. Those are just the 3 best players out of all of the rest.

Post shot attempts and usage, aka burden
That's what I thought - MJ had the weakest cast ever so his burden was biggest.. bird had small burden so he could shoot better easier

Just one of many instances of Bird both beating and outplaying Jordan
You should know, Bird is 6-0 vs MJ and routinely outplayed him.
I mean just look at the '87-'88 stretch where they matched up 10 times in the season and once in the playoffs. Both were healthy and MVP caliber players so no excuses for either player...
11/14/86
Bird - 37/10/5 (13/25 shooting)
Jordan - 48/5/1 (17/33 shooting)
Celtics win, I'd say it's a wash though.
01/02/87
Bird - 37/8/9 (61.1%)
Jordan - 34/8/3 (41.9%)
Celtics win, Bird easily wins the matchup. Highlights of the game here:

Jordan - 17/4/8 (33%)
Celtics win. Bird easily wins matchup.
12/01/88

Jordan - 42/4/6 (53%)
Celtics win. Bird wins matchup.
18/03/88

21/04/88
Bird - 44/10/3 (65.5%)
Jordan - 39/3/8 (51.5%)
Celtics win. Bird wins matchup *yawn*
Bird's record in this stretch? 9-1 while outperforming him in nearly every game. What makes this worse? Bird made Jordan look like a child when Jordan tried to guard him. Meanwhile the possessions I saw Bird guard Jordan, he defended him quite well (definitly wasn't gambling for steals to leave him open in the post).

Bird made players around him much better he increased his teammates ceilings. Meanwhile MJ capped his teammates ceilings due to his need to score 10ppg or more than the next best player

Bird did not make Mchale become one of the best post scorer. Stop talking out your ass.

Copypasta'd from another thread. Thanks.

Check Out the Bulls ball boy so pissed off as Bird drains rainbow after rainbow :oldlol:. Bird before injuries was a nasty savage and he made others better much more than any other player in the 80's. McHale did not play in this game btw.

McHale was an all-time great post player, yet, In case you missed in, Bird missed most of the 97/1988 season and Boston and McHale and the rest of Boston went right to the 13th pick without him.. Bird's greatness at minimum limited the endless amount of double teams on McHale. Bird was the ultimate at making opponents pay for their "focusing" on him.. Bird opened shet up for everyone..
