Jordan stans relax. I'm not here claiming LeBron is the GOAT, so before you get your battle gear ready it's more of a testament to why he's in the conversation.

Despite and argument about stats and achievement here's the most compelling case for Lebron. And this is actually perpetuated by Jordan stans.
Anytime, and I mean over 90% percent of the time, when somebody claims Jordan as the GOAT, rather than listing Jordan's accolades they immediately attack Lebron. This includes 6/6 because as we know finals records only became a factor when Lebron was relevant

How many GOAT discussions in any sport cause people to instantly belittle a singular entity? You don't see it when discussing Gretzky, Tiger, Federer, Brady....people focus on what they've achieved, not by immediately attacking their closest rival. To me that's a supreme testament of greatness.

The most compelling argument you can make is to simply say "he's my favorite player and I like how he plays".

And just leave it at that.

You don't need to spin things or jump through 20000000 hoops to justify it, if you're LeBron dude, you grew up on his games and feel an affinity for him, that's fine. Same for Kobe, there are probably even more people that feel the same way about Kobe, they grew up with him and feel an attachment. Kareem, Shaq, Wilt, whoever is your dude. A lot of people love Magic or Bird.

I do think Jordan is the GOAT like many others, but its not like the other top 10 players are scrubs, the gap between any of them is not that large, so just like who you want to like. It's not that big of a freaking deal.

I do feel you are right in that this "debate" even being a debate is largely fuelled by the media a lot of the time.

They need to push it because the NBA as a league never has really gotten over the loss of Jordan as a marketing force/TV draw.

So they've been pushing the "who's the next Jordan!!!!!!!!!!" angle for 30+ years now and tried multiple different players, for a while it was Grant Hill, maybe Penny Hardaway, then definitely Kobe, for sure Kobe, no doubt Kobe, this Wade kid is good, ok maybe LeBron, yes, LeBron, no Durant, wait maybe Kawhi.

It's never "is Durant as dominant as Kareem or as good as Bird?" No one cares about that.

You completely missed the logic. Because you're passive aggressively attacking me you're blind to what the logic is.

Reality is there is no actual GOAT. There's no scientific measurement. GOAT's are fabrications of what media and fans perceive as value and from that they draw a conclusion.

Where my logic explains is that by that same premise if a rival is considered equal to or better then you focus on attacking it rather than complimenting your perceived GOAT. It's like the art of war. You're building your argument by making the biggest threat look like it's not comparable. It's the biggest compliment there is and in the realm of GOAT discussion no other player receives that much attention.
