“I finally got (Stockton) on the phone after like two years of chasing him,” Hehir said on The Dan Patrick show. “(Stockton) said, ‘I don’t want to be a part of a Michael Jordan puff piece.'”
Man how the fairy tale tables have turned as droves of ex-nba players/coaches/gms continue pouring out pissing on ESPN's shameful marketing strat of tearing down dozens just to re polish their original Nike golden boy :oldlol:

Malone is pillow soft, his old west Harley riding cowboy persona is one of the most cringe cosplays I ever seen someone permanently take on to make of for a micropenis and attraction to 2nd graders
That said they should have never released this doc and just kept Jordan's choir boy image to rest where it peacefully sat since the 90's. Nowadays every player has a voice, instantaneous streamline of outlets to chose and chime in on their own fairy tail or dicking others without reprocussion . Back then that didn't exist, at most some autobiographies making light of drunk Barkley bar fights here n there.
Jordan was too well protected from criticism being the 1st Nike and only sponsored major athlete almost until the mid-90's (Reebok Shaq/Griffey's)
Hanes, Gatorade, Wheaties, Shoes, Toys, Bubblegum, it was like Star Wars level marketed with Jordan. Can you image a "Be Like Steph" campaign in today? :oldlol: Of course MJ's career counterparts tell media to piss off, guys like Grant, Malone, Isaih were extorted to yes men like everyone else
If players or coaches even whispered subliminal on Michael that shit got edited out or scrapped. Multilevel hoops to jump through if you wanted to gripe on little Mikey. Broadcast a post game MJ lowlight? :oldlol: It just didn't happen, that's why his nostalgic fans generally believe he was untouchable because that's exactly how the media secured it. They had to, commercials pay networks bills and Jordan was the face of every ad. Any smack on MJ was a dip in their stock and shares.

Wow!!!!! Awesome!!!!! I cant tell you how much I hate hearing when people say Jordan would beat Curry or James would beat Magic as if those are the only two playing on the court. Whatever happened to the team concept? At least call it Giannis and the Milwaukee Bucks. It's so disrespectful to the other players.

high iq user. it's for this very sole reason why David Stern was forced to the extreme classifying his gambling scandal and giving him the benefit of exposure or multiyear years suspension with clean slate. Exposing Jordan on game betting would have not just crippled the league but also the sports economy. Jordans face employed so many. Think Subway's pedo Jared, but if Jared was the face of every chain restaurant and grocery product.
i just wish Stern didn't take it to the grave with him but he sacrificed his pride for the better of the league and MJ's career lively hood is deeply indebted to him.. I really want to know the juicy details and who exactly was Jordan tipping off, which games was he number running, letting points/stats slide, how many bookies, relative and friends were involved. Pete Rose went in pretty deep, there was lots of coin going around from jerking games and everyone knows when IRS don't get their share they go in.

Malone is not coming off well here, and the Stockton quote is not helping. It comes across as being deeply hurt, which I actually respect and wouldn't make fun of. 22 years of something they can never get back. Look at Jerry West's pain. To you guys they just lost the NBA Finals, twice, to them it's much, much bigger than that. Competition.

I don't think most really grasp the domino affect game betting as a pro athlete has
You're basically printing your own lottery tickets and passing them out to anyone you want. Severe white collar goon shit when you start tampering with bookie lines because it tampers with everyone elses
For that very reason why it's still entrenched in boxing today even at a amateur level.
I don't believe Jordan's got any further than himself maybe 1-2 others, probably tipped off close bookie friend and they split. Any more someone would have ratted. Someone must have hired a PI to tail mike for weeks, who knows. Maybe gave the their info to Stern/League and kept anonymous. Because Jordans retirement was so unusual with vague reasoning, it resembled a boy tucking tale after being grounded

I'd be salty as f**k too if someone prevented me from 2 NBA championships. Once while food poisoned at that and then stripped me of the ball to win the other one lol.
If anyone called me to be in a documentary about it, I'd tell them to piss off.

Jordan was only worth 2 wins to the Bulls dynasty as proven in 1994 (57 wins to 55 wins without him)
Without Jordan Bulls still win 4-5 rings in the 90’s

Malone is right in what he's saying. Basketball isn't a one vs one game, it's a team sport. He didn't lose to Jordan alone, he lost to the Bulls.

Looks like they were easily a 57 win team. Every dynasty takes a step back when going to the 3rd year of a threepeat (which makes what they did in 94' even more impressive because of the wear and tear they had after 3 finals runs).

Just watched it. I can only imagine how grating it must be to be constantly reminded that "you couldn't beat MJ" or asked to comment about the time "MJ stole the ball from you" over and over and over. These guys are competitors. There was more to Karl Malone's career than that moment or some other moment that has been memorialized through the years. I'm sure he gets asked about "The Steal" or "The Shot" every time he goes out.

Typical. If you're not slurping MJ then you're salty. If it was an other player he'd be getting praised for acknowledging the team.
He's manning up and thinking independently.

Malone was very talented player but unfortunately never had the help MJ had. Had he had a teammate like Drexler I feel Utah would have stolen a few titles

Do people not realize the Jazz lost to Hakeem’s Rockets, peak Porter and Drexler(Porter was 2016 Curry for an entire round) peak Magic’s Lakers(barely btw), KJ’s Suns, Peak Sonics, Rasheed’s Blazers TWICE.
I guarantee you that razor close series in 95 against Houston is way up there in terms of heartbreak. And by the way, the bad luck to face them in the first round. Jesus.
Jordan doesn’t own all winning just like he doesn’t own all of everyone’s losing.

Here are two ways to measure Stockton against other sidekicks, one from his era and then several more recent ones. For Stockton I used the time frame Utah was making WCF's or finals. For the others from their first to last finals during that team's run, with 94' removed for Pippen since he wasn't a sidekick that year.
Playoff VORP per 82 games
Pippen 91’-93’: 6.1
Pippen 95’-98’: 6.8
Wade 11’-14’: 5.1
Irving 15’-17’: 4.9
Gasol 08’-10’: 5.9
Klay 15’-19’: 2.2
Stockton 92’-98’: 6.0
Stockton fares well here, although he basically is the same as Gasol. He is close to Pippen I but we artificially cut Pippen into two people here (excluding his MVP caliber season in the middle).
Playoff BPM per 82 games
Pippen 91’-93’: 7.2
Pippen 95’-98’: 7.4
Wade 11’-14’: 4.4
Irving 15’-17’: 7.1
Gasol 08’-10’: 6.4
Klay 15’-19’: 0.7
Stockton 92’-98’: 4.9
Stockton lags far behind, other than compared to Wade and Klay.

Yup, Malone lost to 15 other teams not named the bulls in his post season career. FIFTEEN times
Not to mention his grudge would have been directed at Rodman who clamped him up

It's cinematically well made, but that shit was marketed as a Bulls docu while infact it's a Jordan dickriding fest. Pippen gets criticized like crazy for taking 3 months off during the season, but Jordan's 1 and a half season hiatus somehow makes him more legendary?
Malone's still a bitter douche.

I don't think he's salty about Jordan in particular. He just seems like someone who can't let things go. Upon Kobe's death he hinted at the beef they had 16 years ago..

Jordan played baseball because: devoid of a challenger. Vanquished all in his path. And wanted to play baseball and was more incensed to do so after his fathers random sudden murder. It was his fathers wishes for him too. A grieving process of sorts.
And it was a Bulls documentary. But the before, after, and obviously during process shows Michael WAS the Bulls. Their franchise was dog shit before, and after. Besides a short glimmer of hope with a young local kid superstar pre injury Derrick Rose.

Their "theory" is because a team lost in the second round once that means that team would lose in the second round forever because in Jordanstan teams lose in the same round every year. :lol

Before I watched the Michael Jordan documentary I thought the Bulls were always a top franchise like the Lakers and Celtics. I did not realize they were very bad before Michael Jordan. This documentary also showed me how athletic Karl Malone was. Very tough guy and he reminds me of LeBron in some ways. I’m watching the documentary again.

Jordan played in several eras ... 80s, early 90s is basically a different era from late 90s, and again 2000s even, and in the 2000s before injuring his knee he was having an MVP caliber season for the Wizards more than half way into the year scoring on par with Kobe, Carter, and close to McGrady as an old ass 38/39 year old man on a terrible team.
The only thing that ever really stopped him was a foot injury in 86 and a torn meniscus in 2002, nothing from 84-2002 otherwise.

The Bulls were an expansion team for the 67' season. They generally sucked, outside of a good run in the first half of the 70's (made 2 WCF, losing to Kareem's Bucks in one), but it isn't like they were the Clippers or something with decades of futility. The basically sucked for one decade from 1976-1987.

People assume because Chicago is the #3 city (and until the 80's #2) that it always had a team but the NBA when it started was based in a lot of medium sized cities. Syracuse, Rochester, Cincinnati, Buffalo, Fort Wayne were among cities to have NBA teams in the first decades of the NBA (Buffalo was in the 70's but the others earlier). That doesn't even get to the franchises that folded after 1-2 seasons like Sheboygan or the Kansas City-Omaha team split for the Kings (then still the Royals I believe).
The largest cities in the 1950 census were NY, CHI, PHI, LA, DET, BAL, CLE, STL, DC, BOS (in that order). Of those, in 1955 only NY, PHI, BOS had NBA teams. Baltimore did too--but their team folded after 14 games.
