Kobe has an interesting spot in history. He is one of the few players who won rings as a true sidekick (2000/2001/2002) and won a ring as the true Alpha (2009).

With this in mind, hypothetically what would have benefited his all time ranking more? If he would have spent his whole career and won 6 or 7 rings as the true sidekick like Pippen, or if he won 2 rings as a true Alpha like Curry?

Actually he has 2x Full Alpha Rings in 2009 and 2010. 2x Finals MVPs.

And Co-Alpha rings in 2001 and 2002. Like a Wade in 2012, and 2013. Or Kyrie in 2016.

And a true Pippen / Gasol sidekick ring in 2000.

Volume scoring championship runs don’t need context, just narratives. The narrative in 01 and 02 is pretty damn good for him. People cherry-pick his WC playoff series, ignore his regular seasons, prop up obscure parts of his game like defense and leadership.

As long as he’d win a lot(6 or 7) the natural scoring fetishizers would do the rest.

But let’s be clear here, Kobe was not capable of winning 6 or 7 Pippen rings. Too many anti-social tendencies as a person and player.

Edit: Someone above just said LeBron/Wade, and LeBron/Kyrie rings, there we ****ing go. :lol

Proving my point.

On no planet was Wade or Kyrie close to LeBron in 2012, 2013, or 2016. Pippen was closer to Jordan In the first 3-peat. But volume scoring narrative rings.
