i feel like every dunk nowadays is just a bland standard 1 hand jam or simple 2 hand dunk.

Where did the flair go?

Vince is pretty much the GOAT dunker so using him as the standard isn’t really fair.
I think Zion will do some really nice stuff in the open court.
Lavine easily could but doesn’t for some reason. Maybe it’s the injury risk.

That's Vince Carter, man. He's the greatest dunker ever. That's not going to be common.

true but there are other guys from back then that did stuff like that too... tmac, kobe, and vince most notably.

like... when was the last time you saw somebody do a windmill? or a 360 dunk? or a behind the back 180 reverse?

You dont have to be vince carter to do trick dunks, they just wont look as good.

I think over the years that medical staff has been successful in convincing players that hard dunks causes a toll on the body. E.g landing on one leg repeatedly after dunking can increase the chances of a knee buckling down over time.

Derrick Rose is the best example, look how often he lands on that one leg after exploding more or less fully.

Yeah maybe because most of the guys who have the ball in their hands now arnt very athletic and dont get as many chances to do this stuff. Think of the star players now. Out of all of the them bron and greek are the only crazy athletic ones and greek is just to long and bron is mostly a one foot dunker which limits him a bit dunking wise. He does throw down some pretty sick one footers though.

It's true. In Europe, they have actually advised guys that are under 6-6 (so 6-5 and shorter) not to dunk. They did studies and they showed that the stress is too hard on the knees for guys 6-5 and under. So basically, for example, a point guard shouldn't even dunk. It's been something taught in Europe for like 20 years or so. It's strange that the NBA never learned it.

They also did studies in Europe about how much guys weigh and how much running they should do. Same thing applies. At a certain weight, a player's knees and feet just generally can't hold up to so much running. There are some exceptions. But for instance, they found that guys around 300 pounds will always have major foot injuries if they are not limited in how much running they do on the court. Look at the NBA, and they have almost always ran those guys into the ground physically.

vince carter despite all that jumping had great longevity...

i honestly didnt even know he was still in the league though. He's 43 years old and played 60 games before they shut the season down.

He didn't land correctly, you can dunk a lot and land safely:

Rose was recklessly stupid.

It's hard to blame the fella, just the way it went, but i dont trust his training, discipline, or general intuition compared to most ballers.

he was a loose cannon running on pure primal instinct.

Its crazy how we had three insanely athletic superstar athletes VC - Kobe - TMac at the SG position all at the same time who could drop 50 on any given night.

I can't think of anyone in the league now who has their combination of scoring, size and acrobatics while being top tier NBA talent.
