New documentary to premier this weekend highlighting the Clyde Drexler era led Portland Trailblazers.
Is this the reason why the Last Dance only talked about Clyde & the Blazers for like a total of 90 Seconds?
This should be interesting. Very underrated team in the late 80s and early 90s. Clyde Drexler made the most NBA Finals appearances in the 1990s that was not a Chicago Bull.

Yes. And, his team was the only team to have a double-digit lead in a playoff game at Chicago in the 90's during the fourth quarter (Game 6 of the 92 Finals).

Are you sure about that? You seem to be forgetting about this little white man then. He used to be Clyde's teammate as well.

Perhaps, what makes the rockets' championship season memorable in '95 was that they had less than 50 wins in the regular season.
Therefore, in the postseason, they faced teams with higher wins than them throughout the playoffs, meaning they never had any homecourt advantages at all yet they still ended up winning the title as the 6th seed.

Danny Ainge has two. One with Portland and one with Phoenix. Drexler has three, two with Portland and one with Houston.

Lol you are right.
The blazers actually made the finals against the pistons in '90 but they lost.
I used to think it was a different team tho.

A full on documentary for Clyde Drexler? What's next, another one for Demar DeRozan?

Don't forget to watch this on NBA TV Tonight. Let's get this as many views as "The Last Dance!"
Always cool to see these type of docs. Also kinda strange to see them go season by season only for them to lose every season :oldlol: must be weird for someone watching who isn’t familiar with this era - they’re probably watching expecting them to get over the hump at some point.
This team was also ridiculously deep. During the early 90s, they had 6-7 players that had made all-star games at some point in their career and during these years they were relatively close to their all-star level and Jerome Kersey wasn’t even part of that list.
Clyde Drexler
Terry Porter
Kevin Duckworth
Buck Williams
Danny Ainge
Drazen Petrovic
Cliff Robinson

I thought it was an ok doc. The takeaway for me was these were nice guys that really enjoyed playing together. Seems like they're still good friends to this day. That's nice to see. They also seemed to be a little too comfortable having been "competitive" during their best years. Maybe that's a defensive mechanism.
Their best years all ended in disappointment. In 1990, Detroit was considered the favorite but it was still disappointing for Portland to lose three straight games at home. The next year was their most disappointing loss. They had the best record in the league. They should have beaten the Lakers. This was the year Portland should have gotten over the hump (Lakers) like the Bulls did with the Pistons. The team of the 90's finally putting the team of 80's to rest. But instead LA just bullied them. They blew the Blazers out in two straight games at the Forum and closed it in six. That was a bad loss. 1991 was the Blazers zenith. By 1992, the league belonged to the Bulls. Portland made it competitive but bowed out in six again.
Their three best years, they won only 3 out of 11 Finals games and only 1 out of 6 home games during the Finals. Sandwiched in the middle of their two Finals runs was a bad loss to the Lakers.
They seemed to be ok that they were "competitive" during that time. I understand it's been 30 years and you let stuff go but it would have been nice to see some intensity over the missed opportunities they had. They were a really good team. When Clyde jokingly referenced the Buffalo Bills, I thought that was pretty fitting. The Bills also had the misfortune of meeting all-time great teams in the Super Bowl.

To be fair, Terry Porter said multiple times how it was disappointing they couldn't win.
But yes, clearly from a mental standpoint there was something missing about those guys. Clyde specifically seems to be in the business of making excuses as you can tell from his comments about Jordan and actually implying that he was just as good as him and even Magic has came right out and said something along those lines about Clyde. Switch Jordan and Clyde on the Bulls and Blazers/Rockets and Jordan's success stays about the same in my opinion.
Barkley recently came out and said he was almost traded to the Blazers but they ended up not wanting to give up any of their core. Its kind of telling that the Blazers wanted to keep the nice guys together and not get that dog they really could've used on those teams.

Yeah, and I think that was a mistake. I think the trade was supposed to be Buck and Kersey for Charles. Should have made the deal.

Makes you realize all the forgotten players. Nobody talks about Terry Porter anymore.
