View Full Version : This day in 2016 the Thunder should have gone to the finals.

And Klay showed his ass out there. If you don’t have time just go to 2:20 or so when it’s the 4th quarter. It’s a joke they lost that game while holding that lead and holding them off again and again.....
https://youtu.be/FXSe3iDGv4A
And they lost by 7. Klay went wild....Steph did his thing. Durant and Westbrook combined for 20/58.
Its hard to even imagine KD going 10/31 but it happened. We all saw it....and that number still feels wrong.

This is also the day MJ went 3/18 in the ecf vs the Knicks.....but he came back with 54:

Durant came back and had exactly half those points and got sent home. Just for the record.

The Warriors were down by double digits in both games 6 and 7 elimination games and came back. Not the last time that would happen in a Warriors series.

It is but he had numerous playoff struggles before he joined Gs

the shot @ 3:53 is the straw that broke the camel's back.
they basically got rope a dope'd. and didnt have anything left after that.

Curry\Klay are capable of these type of outbursts, i guess that's what happens when you have 2 of the top 5 shooters ever on one team. Raptors were up like 7 or 8 points late 4th quarter in game 5 2019 finals but Curry\Klay had another run to come back.
Durant displayed his lack of killer instinct and overall talent to close this series out, he actually might of even been outplayed by Westbrook through out the series. The 2017\2018 rings from Durant are 99% series that were not even close, so we have yet to see Durant respond to adversity well in his career.

This was an even bigger choke than The Finals imo. Biggest chokejob of all time. The Thunder were up because they were playing team ball beautifully. The moment KD and Russ started playing hero ball, they lost all momentum.

I swear this topic was almost entirely about that shot and asking for other examples of “back breakers” in the playoffs.

If they win this game, they would have beaten 67 win Spurs and 73 win Warriors in 6 back to back. With that momentum they would beat Cavs too probably. That would have topped 95 Rockets run as the hardest title path to a ring.

ron artest's shot in game 7 in 2010 was a back breaker when the Celtics were leading all game long.

Don't know if this was G6 or G7, but pretty sure it was G6 when they lost the lead and immediately WB hoisted up a pull up three a few seconds into the shotclock. Durant sucked, but that shot emphasized everything that was wrong with that team.

I remember that heartbreaking game. KD made it a point to come out HOISTING up shots whether he made it or missed. Westbrook was getting everyone the ball, he always shoots like shit anyway. KD is supposed to be the efficient one, he was the better player. All KD had to do was play up to par, drop 27 on 11-25 or whatever. Not 10-31. KD was bad from the start, Westbrook was bad in the 4th. If KD is average from the start, OKC might be up 20. And yeah the Warriors can come back on most teams down 20, but not against that OKC on the road. What a disappointment, pretty sure that shit was on my bday too :lol
Klay was magical and the shots he was making... jeez.

This game might be as painful to me as that Lakers-Kings game 4. I was rooting so hard for the Kings because I was a Webber fan. Kings were killing the Lakers in the 1st quarter, Lakers are getting closer and closer and of course the 1st lead they get is Horry hitting the buzzer beater on Divac's tipout to him :facepalm I knew then it would take a herculean effort to knock the Lakers out.

Nah. The Warriors were a 73-9 team. They should've been impossible to beat. They were. They should've won that series. They did.
The Finals collapse is far worse, and I have a lot of love for that 2016 Warriors team - I'm not trying to hate on them - but they were definitely not supposed to lose after going up 3-1.

the thunder faced an on fire chef & klay splash bros, un-suspended dray, non-injured bogut, and non-dleague harrison barnes.
If any one of those factors ^ flipped..?
They're probably champions.

Still one of the greatest games I've seen, and I've watched a ton of basketball in 25 or so years.
Klay was hitting daggers one after another. The restaurant I was at went crazy and I'm in Cali so I laughed chalking it up to bandwagon fans. But in that moment, I also knew the game...was just THAT good.

A broken clock is right twice a day. Klay’s playoff efficiency and volume is mediocre at best and his Finals statistics are ugly.

Thunder would have beat us in 2016 I think. We lucked out a bit and caught GS while they were injured and had suspensions.

KD certainly made up for it in the next to playoff runs. But man...67 win Spurs and THEN the 73 win Warriors. Western Conference is NO JOKE. Props for him for playing the had hand he was dealt for practically a decade. Shit is real in the field out West.

Who was injured? 12 mpg Bogut? Who played for 5 games in the series? I hope you're not talking about Curry. Here you go if so, let's keep this circulated around:

5 games if including the one where he was injured. 4 complete games after which the Warriors were 3-1 up.

If Curry does 26 on 45% instead of 22 on 40% does he win?
Oh.

His knee clearly needed a rest after the okc series.. quite common for recent injuries

Oh.
The Warriors won game 1 with Curry scoring 11. If he upped his scoring that game by 28 to reach your proposed averages would it change anything? No. If he scored 5 more in game 7 though he would win.

I agree with you Lebron23, Klay saved the Warriors 2016 WCF and Draymond Finals Gm 7 kept it from being a Cavs blowout in Oracle
