One of the biggest choke jobs in NBA History. And it also ended the Riley Era for the Knicks.

Yeah. For me that was the moment I realized definitively this team just wasn't going to get over the hump. Posting the clip since it wasnt in the OP:

You would be surprised how many people have missed game winning layups.

But rarely on that stage. Duncan had an ugly one in 2013 too. Ewing was just getting old. He said years later he took off to dunk it but his knee didn’t give him enough so he had to adjust. That guy dunked from near the ft line in games in his youth. Know that shit killed him. That’s turn off all contact to the outside world and recover in solitude shit there.

Btw....Lebron deserved to miss his after that epic field trip he took to the basket in the first place.

Reggie Miller in game 7

29 points on 56% FG and 60% 3 pt shooting.

yea....

29 points on that efficiency against an elite NY defense in a game that ends in the mid 90s.

That's like... 40 today. easy.

I was thinking the same. At first I was like nice euro step from a guy that size coming at you with that pace, then on the replay...shit how did I miss that one.

Also surprised young MJ didn't just dunk that one.

Playing through injuries most of his career you would appreciate Ewing more in hindsight, getting as far as he did despite not being fully healthy most of the time. Im on the wrong end of 30 and trying to play basketball with knee issues is such a pain, you could barely jump most of the time so I could relate with Ewing on this one.

I kinda wonder if he just wanted to rush the ball outta his hands thinking the buzzer was about to blow.

Yea....I missed a dunk on a lowered rim a few years ago and nearly died. I feel for him. Getting old sucks. And you are sports old way before you’re real life old.

Maybe, he had 3 seconds on the clock when he went up so perhaps just underestimated how much time he had.

It was a bad miss, although people have noted the mitigating circumstances at that point in his career. The difference in the series, though, was:

Indiana's #2 option: 23/6/1 on 60% (Miller was 23/4/3 on 43%)
New York's #2 option: 17/2/5 on 41% (Ewing was 19/9/3 on 50%)

Not really because the Knicks supporting cast made up for what Starks lacked in matching up with the Pacers.

Oakley, Harper, Mason, Smith 15, 14, 10, 9
Mckey, Dale, Mark, Antonio 12, 8, 7, 6

The difference in the series was an unlucky bounce.

Shows you how much athleticism was gone after all his injuries and bad knees, he should have dunked it. I remember watching this game, pretty sure Pacers had a decent lead and in the final crazy moments Knicks mounted a comeback but it was finished off by this wet blanket of a moment. Dark times.
