I love this picture because it illustrates the nonsense about handchecking.

When handchecking was legal players used their hands. When use of hands was outlawed in 1995 players started using their forearms. When use of forearms was outlawed players started using any other body part that wasn't specifically banned by the rulebook - in this case Kobe is using his elbows, biceps, chest and face.

The 2005 rule about hand-checking was just to ENFORCE the existing rules

Hand-checking wasn't enforced until 05', hence the record increase in league ortg that year, along with everyone's stats
