He had it in the bag before all this. Now IÂ’m not sure.
Even before this, his chances weren't as strong as previous POTUS with a good economy. He would've been the first POTUS to get reelected with an overall negative poll rating his first 4 years, never once got over 50% support in aggregate of polls for a month, first time ever that has happened.
Having said that, the Dems are divided between centrists and progressives so Trump's chances would've been over 50% chance to get reelected but right now, I think the odds are against him. In theory he should be kicking Biden's ass in the polls since Biden has been holed up in his basement while Trump should be benefitting from the rally around the flag/leader effect during this crisis that Trump is "leading" us through but instead Trump is losing in most battleground states and most surprising of all, he is bleeding support from old white voters, if Biden is competing in that voting bloc come the fall, that won't be good for Trump's chances.

A Trump assassination is highly improbable...not like you can just sneak up on him in a theater Lincoln style. That would also secure a Republican win in 2020, President Pence.
So maybe alt right kills Trump to prevent a Biden win.

How exactly would they pin that on Trump? Do you think he picked up a phone and personally called in a hit to whomever answered in the prison offices?
“Hello, this is President Donald Trump. Who am I speaking with? Oneida Correctional? That’s wonderful. Listen I need one of your prisoners whacked, but it’s gotta be a great and incredible whacking. It has to be absolutely incredible, I need your highest energy hitman.”

What's the probability Trump doesn't survive all this chaos?
Yes. There is no way he would have signed up for this. And he never had experience at it, much less long term crisis management, and he doesn't like listening to people. He doesn't like the teleprompter but can't master the material on short notice. When he improvises its usually a tragedy. He likes to blame things on other people and that's at its wits end. Twitter now wants to have a standard for tweets. Everything is a giant headache. And the one thing he loved about the Presidency were his rallies which he can't do because of the covid. It wouldn't surprise me if Godzilla came to DC with some wrath. Just horrific luck for a newbie.

I really thought the Covid thing would long term help him, just because the left has presented no solutions to it, just complaints. And it's a shame because they could've presented genuine nationwide healthcare as an alternative aid to the solution of this problem. Healthcare that isn't tied to your employment, which is going to matter as unemployment skyrockets, but then they railroaded the guy for whom that was the platform. At the same time Trump actually moved to their left presenting full national coverage for all Covid related medical treatment, which has created it's own set of problems.
I just feel like as the data susses itself out on the virus, Trumps aggressiveness toward reopening will look smarter. They're going to find out way more people had it than they thought, and while it's obviously deadly, the mortality rate isn't as bad as was being reported. And so many people had it that the shutdown will look like it did very little. That combined with the Russian stuff slowly falling apart, I thought gave him a good base to make the left look hyper sensitive to him, which I believe they are.
The protests however I'm not sure he can come back from. It's not a area he's got a great look on anyway, and he hasn't come off all that well here. And it'll activate a certain part of the voting population that maybe wouldn't have come out anyway.
He can't run on the economy anymore, and I think the big issue there isn't necessarily that it won't have come back by then, but the proof, under unprecedented circumstances or not, just how delicate it is, so it'll be pretty hard to take too much credit or blame for it, even though I do think his chinese tax policies are the best thing he's done.
And what he's really got going for him is Biden is an awful candidate. Awful and getting worse, not saying anything, and the few times you do hear from him he's saying something ridiculous. And the democratic base may be so engaged at this point that they'll be hard pressed to vote for him, as in it's hard to be this upset, and then really vote for this guy.
I expect Trump to win and factors like incumbency along with a boring Democrat candidate to be enough for him to win. I'll be more interested if someone has a long term vision of how to fix the economy, how to address race relations, etc.
While I'm not a Trump supporter ill admit in '16, he was the only one that tapped into the frustrations that lingered from the 08 financial crisis and was talking about trade screwing over middle America.
However, in '20 he will have a tougher sell to put the country back together. While the Democrats ****ed up by not looking for a generational leader for the 20s

What happens in the next few months will probably determine our next POTUS. Voting is still months away and A LOT can happen in that time. The V-Shape recovery was already underway before the rioting, unemployment could make a very sharp u-turn in coming months, and the summer heat could obliterate what remains of covid.
There is a chance that Trump comes out of this ridiculous mess looking like a miracle worker.
A lot of bad things could happen within the coming months too...like we've all just seen with the Floyd murder, shit can go sour in a snap...who knows what drama awaits us

When I say "scared citizens" I mean Trump supporters. Insecure and frightened people who need a strongman to make them feel safe. The only problem is Trump is a lot more insecure and frightened than his supporters. Hence his posturing and outbursts. And then he hides in a heavily protected bunker when real anger and aggression shows up.

The pandemic has made it a toss up. If a vaccine comes out before the election (a big if) it could be a game changer. If unemployment gets worse and people start getting evicted/foreclosed left and right it could be disastrous for Trump. Voter turnout will be a big factor and with Biden being such a shitty candidate a lot of people are just gonna sit this one out.

Explain how ANTIFA are fascists.
ANTIFA does not tolerate dissenters and a difference in thought or ideology. If you are not like them, you are the enemy. It is a destruction of the status-quo and of the ability to engage in free thought and ideas. While the textbook definition of Fascism speaks of a single leader controlling the economic, social, and cultural aspects of society, the belief in shutting down the opposition and using violence as a tool is definitely a Fascist tactic. The Nazi Party went door to door rounding up those that were different and killing dissenters.

Identity politics is what's sweeping the political landscape though! Democrats can't go two seconds without injecting race into any argument they have against the President. So right now, this is what people are talking about because virtually every Democrat and every News Outlet which parrots what the Democrats say and do are talking about identity politics.

Yeah I’m aware. They do it to distract people from realizing they serve the same masters as the republicans. I don’t like CNN or MSNBC or the like. They helped screw Bernie by manufacturing consent.

This issue is, Presidents and politicians in general have limited ability to fix these things. Theres no magic wand, and unless you want a government literally deciding which industries employ how many people and which people and how long they work etc, itÂ’s up to the public themselves to get what they want. In a society this large and with 50 states there will inevitably be a need for some regulation, but IMO that is essentially to prevent too much conflict between states, businesses, consumers etc. as well as interacting with foreign countries. ItÂ’s more of a mediation role. The government cannot wave a wand and make a good economy. They cant pronounce a law that makes everyone prosper.
In America there is a huge chasm between what various cultures and individuals value, desire, prioritize, and are even capable of. An “equal” society will be the product of people with similar ability and values, because equality means the same. Imagine putting 5 people on a basketball court, one of them is Michael Jordan, the other is an Amish girl who never played basketball, one is a 50 year old insurance salesman who played some ball in high school, the other is a paraplegic with a mean jumper from his wheelchair and the other is Joe Biden or Donald Trump.
Now go ahead and expect them all to perform equally on the court.
ItÂ’s silly right?
Accepting communities with different values, different histories, different parental emphasis, and even different evolutions is not a recipe for sustained equality. If you want government stewards checking in on every home to make sure all kids study for equal time, go to bed at equal time etc... maybe we get closer.
But in a free society, melting pot? I dunno. You can redistribute everything now and then, but it will always shift back. Some folks who emphasize careers like law and finance will relate to each other, work together for mutual gain, lonby the government, while folks who emphasize reliance on government subsidy will always shift lower.
And the people at the top are also competing with each other, for pride. So if they can find a lil opportunity, maybe something a lil sketchy, to get that extra extension on their home or whatever... theyre gonna do it.
I mean theres a reason socialism is always part and parcel with a dictator. Equality doesnt happen naturally. It has to be forcibly coerced. And even then... it doesnt work. Corruption and inequality are still endemic, save for very homogenous communities.
We have to ask some tough questions in America and accept some honest answers. I dont think the public is willing to do that.

This is the new blueprint for the left. Riots, protests, violence, property destruction and arson when they don't get what they want. It will only escalate. We saw it to a smaller degree after the election and we are seeing it again now.
The DNC convention is going to be a total shitshow once again. They'll probably bring in the military to protect their precious and privileged elites inside.
Feels like a Cuban revolution in many ways, where unrest will eventually lead to exile of the competent and capable, and while there will temporary inheritance of wealth by the lower classes... it will be squandered quickly and the economy will turn ugly for the long term.

The thing is - he got a lot of the black vote which is how he beat Bernie. Sure, you can blame "the elites" for "misleading" them but at the end of the day they have to take responsibility for voting him in.

He did do great with the older black generation for sure. IIRC black people under 40 voted for Bernie though. Biden generally does great with older voters, which is part of how he beat Bernie (besides DNC and media ****ery). Unfortunately for Biden, Trump does great with older voters too. So he loses that advantage. It’s true he will still have the edge in the black vote against Trump, but I think he won’t get the youth vote like he and the democratic establishment think he will. Like I said earlier, Biden doesn’t talk about change. That’s how Obama won. Sure Obama was a neoliberal ghoul and didn’t actually shake things up like he promised but his messaging was good. Trump is the same. He promised lots of change but didn’t deliver. The thing is, people don’t pay attention enough to realize Obama and Trump weren’t actually reformers. Sure both had some accomplishments but for the most part they were standard politicians for their respective parties. Biden refuses to even use messaging promising change. So what exactly are people supposed to be excited for? He’s basically running on “I’m not Trump”. That’s a losing strategy.

Obama was the most divisive President in history. He made everything rich vs poor, black vs. white, male vs female, etc.... He took every single opportunity to sew discord and promote division with the media sycophants eagerly pumping our propaganda to help him along. Trump has done nothing to promote division despite having an uphill battle during his entire Presidency fighting against a fake Russian collusion scheme cooked up by Obama and his cronies because they were scared shitless Trump would come in and find everything they had done wrong from spying on Trumps campaign and incoming administration to spying on journalist and other heads of state. Trump replaced the worst and most crooked President in the history of this great country.

Bro, be real. Any time he’s tried to do that, his detractors literally just run automatically to the opposite end of anything he says.
The hate for Trump far, far, far supersedes any kind of hate or nefarious intentions Trump has in his own heart.
The people making him out to be Satan incarnate are the actual screwloose neurotic rejects in society, and theyre using him as an outlet for all their rage and inner torment.
At this point he has no reason to reach out to these people. They never have and never will give him a chance, because theyd rather confront a boogieman than face their own demons and inadequacy.

True. Anything he says will be misconstrued. I think he needs to address the looters and the violence people are projecting onto small businesses. Breaks my heart man. These are all some people have. I can care less about Rolex or Nike and Adidas in NY.

As I mentioned to highwhey recently, Ill readily agree he leans TOO heavily on the trolling and inflammatory shit at times. Im glad that he will show some “realness” at times unlike every other political weasel, corporate puppet President we’ve had. But he needs to not be so predictable. If he wanted to go on an outright charm and unity offensive for a few months, he could do that and basically expose the media for not REALLY caring about cooperation and helping the public. The media wants to burn Trump at the stake because thats what drives ratings and thats what gives them more power. The Democratic party, the establishment media... theyre EVERYTHING they accuse Trump of being. They dont WANT unity, cooperation, class equality etc.
They use Trump as a foil to make it look like HE’S preventing that... when they are. It’s Machiavellian shit 101.
Trump could and should do a better job of exposing it. He exposes it almost inadvertently to some extent just by being President and being himself. But he could make that reality a lot clearer to people if he used more savvy in how to do it.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A majority of Americans sympathize with nationwide protests over the death of an unarmed black man in police custody and disapprove of President Donald Trump’s response to the unrest, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Tuesday.
The demonstrations, some of which have turned violent, began last week after a Minneapolis police officer was videotaped kneeling on the neck of George Floyd for nearly nine minutes, even after Floyd appeared to lose consciousness. The officer has been charged with murder.
The survey conducted on Monday and Tuesday found 64% of American adults were “sympathetic to people who are out protesting right now,” while 27% said they were not and 9% were unsure.
The poll underscored the political risks for Trump, who has adopted a hardline approach to the protests and threatened to deploy the U.S. military to quell violent dissent. The Republican president faces Democrat Joe Biden in November’s election.
More than 55% of Americans said they disapproved of Trump’s handling of the protests, including 40% who “strongly” disapproved, while just one-third said they approved - lower than his overall job approval of 39%, the poll showed.
A separate Reuters/Ipsos poll found that Biden’s lead over Trump among registered voters expanded to 10 percentage points - the biggest margin since the former vice president became his party’s presumptive nominee in early April.
Twice as many independent voters said they disapproved of Trump’s response to the unrest. Even among Republicans, only 67% said they approved of the way he had responded, significantly lower than the 82% who liked his overall job performance.
