the diversity of dogs is so great its hard to generalize like that. a german sheperd is smarter than any cat but all the medium sized dogs you see people have, cats are smarter than generally.

a shitzu or terrier has a brain like 1/3 the size of a big dog. But I've also seen big dogs that were dumb as shit, and small ones that were smart. so it doesnt come down to just brain size.

Depends on the cat. I've got 2, one of them don't GAF when I leave but the other one is in serious distress. When I'm back home she only leaves my side to eat or take a shit. The male was the same way with my ex. He's affectionate, but he doesn't miss me much.

Dog's only show affection, because you're their surrogate lead dog. If a cat loves you it's not based on dependency.

Really soothes the heart to see such a lovely creature befriend one of our esteemed acquaintances on ISH.

That feeling when the cat meows and paws at the door and slowly curls into a ball by your side.

Everyone I know who doesn't like them to some degree either met the wrong cat, and or doesn't know how to approach/interact with them. I've owned a lot over the years and they definitely vary in personality. I adopted two last week, first I've had that weren't from my backyard since I was a little kid. One is an 11 month old female that will grab onto your hand with her paws and pull your hand towards her head, or hold it as leverage for head rubs. I've owned 6 inside cats up until them, and many more outside cats and none did that lol. Got my first dog earlier this year, she's now a 7 month old Australian Shepherd named Levee. Absolutely adore that dog, but I don't think I made a mistake getting a cat over a dog when I was a little kid faced with the choice.

My outside cats back at my parents are savages.

she's such a cute girl. my neighbor when i was a young kid was an old cat lady, she had like 15+ cats and fed them all. super nice lady. she taught me that calico cats like yours are almost always females.
