July 4, 1946. He signed the Declaration of Independence. The Philippines is now a free nation since the 16th century. Thank President Trump, and General Macarthur.

Thats nice that you feel that way

Personally, if I was a pinoy I think it would be a little hard not to hold a bit of a grudge about the fact that yall would have been free a lot sooner if the US hadnt stabbed you in the back in feb 1899, abandoning the alliance against your Spanish colonial oppressors in order to start the Phillipine-American war... and had instead recognized and supported your 1898 declaration of independence and the jan 1899 election of Emilio Aguinaldo as president of the first Philippine republic.

I think during that time the Philippines was not yet capable of becoming an independent nation. Among our colonizers the americans were probably the nicest. They introduced the educational system in the Philippines, and the game of basketball. By the 1940's the Philippines now had the capabilities to rule as an independent nation. Mcarthur kept his promises when he returned and freed our country from the Japanese.

No one's going to stop China from taking over the seas around the Philippines.
