I know. it's weird. Also the series ends at the start of next seasons training camp so next season will be pushed back.

Achilles takes 9-12 months to fully heal
In July it would have been 13 months and KD has been playing intense basketball since April
I don't know about Kyrie tho, he better come back in July

why 13 from the west and 9 from the east?
Hornets the 10th seed had their owner say he doesnt want to play in meaningless regular season games

why 13 from the west and 9 from the east?
Because only 9 teams in the East have a realistic chance of making the Playoffs. Hornets are 7 games out of the 8th seed, so basically they'd have 0 chance making it. Suns at 13th in the West are 6 games behind too, but I guess they wanted to do an even amount of teams.

Why would it be an astericks? 80% of the season was already completed. There's a clear cut top 5 teams from each league with a bunch of stragglers. There is also more games that would be played than a lock out.

Because teams that were dealing with injuries have the extra time off for everyone to get healthy, and there's no HCA, guys resting for months instead of grinding out the season and being fatigued at the end. It should be viewed differently. Teams like the Clippers, Blazers, Bucks, Sixers and others were dealing with injuries as the season got suspended. Lock out seasons are just as bad, since teams were playing every other night and had B2B2Bs which obviously didn't help older teams like the Lakers & Celtics in 2012.

Clips didnt deal with any injuries.
Bucks only minor things with Giannis which were obviously resolved by seasons end.
Blazers could well turn out the biggest beneficiary and it pisses me off.

In a best of 7, the best team is still going to win more often than not. Portland can be as well rested as they want, they won't beat the lakers, clippers, or houston. This years playoffs will have more surprise upsets in 4-8, the top 3 in each conference are much better than 4-8.

It doesn't even merit this deep of a rebuttal. If Portland and other teams are healthier than they would have been then that would increase the legitimacy of the NBA Champion being called the best team if it has any effect at all. No one thinks the Raptors were the best team last year, everyone knows that KD and Klay Thompson being out is the #1 reason we didn't see a threepeat. That doesn't merit an asterisk but somehow if the NBA Champion has to emerge from a team with the Blazers healthy it does? That's the opposite of logic.
Note that I am not throwing an asterisk on Toronto, in case anyone takes it that way.

Not really, because if the season was played out in a normal fashion the best teams would have earned the championship by grinding through 82 games, earning their HCA and playing another ~20 games right after. The no HCA part is the biggest asterisk here IMO. 5 months of rest, no HCA... how can you say that it doesn't merit an asterisk?

So if Milwaukee wins the championship with the best record it would be somehow less significant because they didn't game home court advantage? Everyone will be going through the same things. James, Leonard, Antetokuonmpo etc will be out there playing just as hard as they would have normally. It's the same for everyone. Asterisk implies there's something unfair about the situation. There isn't.

Maybe not as much if the best team ends up winning it, but I think these Playoffs will give us plenty of upsets and the 8 games leading up to it should shake the seeding up quite a bit as well. I don't think it's far-fetched to say that COVID-19 will always be tied to the 2020 title. Let's say the Rockets or Mavs won the title, you don't think people would be calling it an asterisk?

There will be people calling asterisk no matter who wins. There's a thread on it on the first page. It's a given. I'm pointing out that it's wrong. The Raptors got to beat up on a Warriors team that is basically the guys wr saw limp to the worst record in the league this year. No asterisk. How is their ring more worthy of respect than if we see Doncic work a miracle to overcome Lebron James and Kawhi Leonard? What's a bigger obstacle to overcome, Kevin Durant or loud yelling?

I think we will see more competitive defensive ball with the offenses catching on by first round of playoffs. Guys there's urgency to several teams. The first 3 games will be ugly turnover wise but the effort will be high. Lakers and Bucks will use the 8 games to work the kinks out. I believe Clippers or Denver will look to try and match up against OKC or Dallas. No one wants to play Houston first round.
