View Full Version : What if Krause and Reinsdorf broke it up in the Summer of 97?

Krause seemed to want to move on after the fifth title. He tried to trade Pippen to Boston for the sixth pick, and he was going to use it on Tracy McGrady. However, MJ and Reinsdorf basically vetoed it, and the owner went to talk to Phil Jackson to get him back for one more year.

However, what if Krause was given the green light? They would have started a re-build with T-Mac and Toni Kukoc as the star players.

Probably would rather have the title in 1998 versus T-Mac and Kukoc who would likely win nothing.

That would be the start. If they were bad enough, maybe could have gotten Paul Pierce in the 98 draft. Also, Krause seemed to have a keen eye for talent.

T Mac wouldn't be a star until the 2000's. Jordan would retire with no Pip there. The Bulls would be good in the early to mid 2000's with T Mac emerging as a superstar but ultimately would not win a championship with him most likely.

Tmac and Elton Brand could have done some damage, I doubt they win a title with Lakers and Spurs there every year.

Krause tried to trade Pippen for Kemp after the 96' season

He understood Pippen's worth... < Kemp and rookie tmac

That was during the 95 season before Jordan came back, dumb ass. This also has nothing to do with Pippen's worth and everything to do with Krause wanting to rebuild. Pippen was 29 and Kemp was 25. Scottie was clearly a significantly better player at the time...which is why when George Karl called up Jordan to ask him about the trade he told him to make that trade, absolutely. That it was about a rebuild is even more accurate when he was trying to trade for a pick to draft Mcgrady.

Wow, Pippen's 94 Playoffs was that bad

He was completely exposed.. couldn't have played worse

4th on his own team in WS/48!!!!!.... Grant, Kukoc, and BJ contributed more to wins than Pippen in those Playoffs

Again...trying to trade Pippen was about them rebuilding. Jordan had retired, Grant had left...there really was no point in keeping Pippen who was 29 if you could get get a younger, if not as good, star like Kemp back. That he was continuously pissed about his contract and didn't much want to be there anymore either didn't hurt.
