I was right that the NBA would be suspended. Nobody believed me, they said not a chance. I just knew it like it was common sense. And then everyone said the season over but I said it would return and it’s looking like I was right.

And now people are forgetting about the virus because of all the protests. Well these protests are making it hard to social distance and once they die down, the virus will be surging at record rates. Give it a few weeks and you’ll see why we should have been social distancing.

The herd immunity test is being done by Brazil right now. We'll see how fast they get over the curve

They just ramped up to 30k confirmed cases per day with very little testing, so they are the world's hotspot at the moment

I remember early in the Corona days. The OP got his post deleted because he felt that the NBA season should be suspended, will be suspended. It sounded like such nonsense. To me, and everybody else. Like ha, the NBA is not going to cancel the season. There's just too much at stake. Money, TV deals, and maintaining the purity of an NBA season. It was unthinkable. Yet he was right. No apologies, but he was right.

At this point there is no stopping the virus. We're at the point of no return already. Herd immunity is the only way now. I'm just hoping this virus somehow stops mutating and dies off eventually. If it turns into the flu where it mutates multiple times a year... well that's gonna mean we'll all have a chance of dying from this once we hit 65.

News coverage is what I’m predicting.

Now of the protests keep going it could postpone the spike. But if they go away, then the cases will start piling back up.

Even tho this is deadly, and it is worse than the flu (unbelievable how some wave the flag of sounding uneducated), the good thing is that it isn't AS deadly as we were thinking.

A matter of some common sense, is that people in hospitals, people in supermarkets, people in nursing homes, in rehab facilities, in restaurants (such as myself), nannies, and the remainders of the household..more have it than can be accounted for.

Of course, rather than there being a million people throwing phony Corona death tags on people, there is a lot of the opposite. States want to open.

The fear is what a spike will mean. And please don't talk about Brasil, because I am Brazilian and that idiot is an altogether different breed of embarrassment. And what's going on there, you've no idea.

It is never a good thing. COVID-19 is not as deadly as other viruses like SARS or Ebola, but it is a hell lot more contagious thanks to having relatively longer incubation period than those that pretty kill people very quickly when they infect people.

I'm fine with re-opening business. But since there still are tons of stupid and ignorant people out there not protecting themselves and others by at least simply wearing masks, it has to be very cautious doing so.

Also, pray for you Brazilian folks and hope you get lucky with better governments in the future.

SARS and COVID are nearly identical. SARS was a caused by a strain of coronavirus. The official name for SARS is SARS-CoV-1, while COVID-19 is called SARS-CoV-2... slightly different versions of the same virus. (For the record there are currently 30+ known strains of corona viruses... its a very common virus that mutates rapidly, similar to influenza)

Heres a quick summary of the similarities between SARS and COVID:

Like COVID, the main symptoms for SARS were fever, cough, soar throat, and muscle pain... eventually leading to shortness of breath and death by pneumonia in the cases that turned lethal.

Like COVID, SARS had an incubation period of up to 14 days.

Like COVID, young people had extremely low death rates to SARS, while old people (especially those with pre-existing conditions) had the highest death rates.

Like COVID, SARS killed males at much higher rates than females.

Like COVID, SARS began in november and and fizzled out by june/july.

And my personal favorite similarity between these viruses - Like COVID, SARS supposedly originated in Chinese bats that were being sold as food in wet markets.

All of the SARS facts I mentioned here were taken straight from the SARS wikipedia page - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Severe_acute_respiratory_syndrome

Let's compare COVID19 to seasonal flu and SARS.

Corona:
The overall cumulative COVID-19 hospitalization rate is 82.0 per 100,000, with the highest rates in people aged 65 years and older (254.7 per 100,000) and 50-64 years (126.2 per 100,000)

Flu:
For example, the data shows the cumulative hospitalization rate for the flu is 52.7 per 100,000 people this season (2019-2020), compared with 33.5 per 100,000 at the same point last season.

Early data also suggested the new coronavirus may be more contagious than the flu, the Times reports. The latest NEJM study suggests each coronavirus patient on average infects 2.2 other people. In comparison, research has shown each flu patient on average infects 1.3 other people.

https://www.advisory.com/daily-briefing/2020/03/03/flu-update
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/covid-data/covidview/index.html?CDC_AA_refVal=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cdc.gov %2Fcoronavirus%2F2019-ncov%2Fcovid-data%2Fcovidview.html

COVID-19: There have been approximately 391,588 deaths reported worldwide. In the U.S, 108,211 people have died of COVID-19, as of June 5, 2020.*

Flu: The World Health Organization estimates that 290,000 to 650,000 people die of flu-related causes every year worldwide.

In the U.S., from Oct. 1, 2019 – Apr. 4, 2020, the CDC estimates that 24,000 to 62,000 people died from the flu. (The CDC does not know the exact number because the flu is not a reportable disease in most parts of the U.S.)

The COVID-19 situation is changing rapidly. Since this disease is caused by a new virus, people do not have immunity to it, and a vaccine may be many months away. Doctors and scientists are working to estimate the mortality rate of COVID-19, but at present, it is thought to be substantially higher than that of most strains of the flu.

https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/conditions-and-diseases/coronavirus/coronavirus-disease-2019-vs-the-flu

The major difference between SARS and COVID are that COVID is much more contagious - making it a much larger public health threat.

Sars Cov-1:
There have been approximately 391,588 deaths reported worldwide. In the U.S, 108,211 people have died of COVID-19, as of June 5, 2020.*
6.66 million cases worldwide.

Sars Cov-2 (Covid):
The 2002–2004 SARS outbreak was an epidemic involving severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV or SARS-CoV-1). The outbreak was first identified in Foshan, Guangdong, China, on November 16, 2002.
Over 8,000 people from 29 different countries and territories were infected, and at least 774 died worldwide.

6.66 million cases versus 8000 is not comparable at all.
391,588 deaths versus 774 not comparable at all.

So, in summary - COVID19 has a higher hospitalization rate and mortality rate than seasonal flu by preliminary data. Flu is also highly contagious - but a vaccine exists which hampers its spread.

COVID19 is far more contagious that the SARS strain from 2003 - that outbreak and this global pandemic are not similar in the slightest.

Let's compare COVID19 to seasonal flu and SARS.

We've been doing that. Thank you for joining the conversation.

2017 flu hospitalizations: 959,000 (CDC)
COVID-19 hospitalizations: 280,000 so far (CDC)

2017 flu deaths ages 0-17: 643
COVID-19 "deaths" ages 0-17: far less than 2017 flu

In the U.S, 108,211 people have died of COVID-19, as of June 5, 2020.*

FACT CHECK: FALSE

108,211 is the amount of people who died *with*, or suspected of having COVID-19 at time of death, not necessarily *of*. It's difficult to know which of these people died of COVID-19 because almost all of them were already dying of other illnessess. Estimates of ~43%+ of these people are in nursing homes. Nursing home residents have a median lifespan of 5 months from day 1 of residency.

So, in summary - COVID19 has a higher hospitalization rate and mortality rate than seasonal flu by preliminary data. Flu is also highly contagious - but a vaccine exists which hampers its spread.

FACT CHECK: MIXED

2017 flu hospitalizations: 959,000 (CDC)
COVID-19 hospitalizations: 280,000 so far (CDC)

COVID-19 policies that differ from flu policy:

40m unemployed
7.5 million small business closed forever
$Trillions to big banks/businesses
2.3 million cancer surgeries canceled
28 million total procedures canceled
43% adult obesity, gyms made illegal
Mental health/depression spike
Protests illegal, except for BLM protests to defund the police

COVID-19 is worse than 2017 flu, but only if you include the excess deaths from all the bullshit policies we implemented

There will be no spike in hospitalizations because the virus simply isn't that dangerous and the bulk of the old/frail have already died off.

If the leftstream media wants to get back on the COVID hysteria

They will lie with statistics/headlines and continue to blame white supremacist for the fake "spike." Once you read into it you'll notice 0-3% of the hospital beds are being used by COVID patients, and there's no real concern whatsoever.

Per the taxpayer-funded National Progressive Radio, https://twitter.com/npr/status/1267709439467020288 :

Dozens of public health and disease experts have signed an open letter in support of the nationwide anti-racism protests.

"White supremacy is a lethal public health issue that predates and contributes to COVID-19," they wrote.

If the leftstream media would rather focus on their race-war

They will reason the lack of hospitalizations with:
-protesters are social distancing, according to "experts" (they're already doing this)
-obviously the politicians saved your life with lockdowns! (ie taking away your liberty, flattening our healthcare system, making small businesses illegal, and forcing everyone into Walmart/Target/Costco, etc)

It is absolutely crazy to see the information war happening at this level, just playing out day by day. There'll be some sort of crisis all the way up until the election, and we'll get more threads like this one
http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showthread.php?480960-It-might-be-possible-4-Trump-to-win-but-that-won%92t-bode-well-for-any-of-us, basically saying that surrender must happen by Trump not getting re-elected.

This whole thing with the "bogaloo boys" right wing group as well. No one has ever heard of this group up until a week ago, where they start putting shit on social media and all of the sudden have a very extensive wikepedia description. For some reason the MSM is referring to these guys like they matter.

I read a thread as well on another board, the TOS for the company that handles BLM donations, their name is bluesomething and they're the same that handles DNC donations. Apparently it's in the TOS(which you can't find on their website, but only through a google search, meaning that it's there on the site without appearing so), that if BLM rejects the donation, it is considered a donation for the bluesomething, in effect making it a donation for the democratic party. I haven't looked into verifying this, but it was there.

It's just so trendy right now to take part in BLM demonstrations, celebs and influencers are pushing along with the MSM for this environment where they make it seem cool with one hand and shame people for not participating with the other, in the exact same way they made it trendy to support covid19 lockdowns.

People have been so heavily conditioned for this to go crazy over the last 4 years as well. People who would probably never take to the streets, like most leftwingers on this board, have no problem applying the most nasty terms they can think of towards people who voted for the sitting president.
