Slam posted a video of a 15 years old high school Mickey Williams who scored 74 points in a game. And he was getting criticized for being a ballhog. Back then when we read that Chris Paul scored 61 points. We were amazed by it. Even a known nba tough guy like Vernon Maxwell was receiving online threats after he trolled some Jazz fans. And contemplated on deleting his twitter account. Kevin Durant probably created burner accounts to fight online trolls. Must suck logging on twitter/facebook/instagram, and saw some douche criticizing your bad game.

Back then nba legends were bigger than life because the newspapers rarely reported the bad games of Bird, Magic and Jordan. Only in the internet, wikipedia, youtube era, and basketball referencing era we knew that all of them had bad games in the playoffs.

You need less mental strength actually
Twitter stories last a day and then it's on to the next
Nobody gives a shit anymore that D'Angelo Russell broke the bro code or that Lebron screwed up on China
And I don't see any adultery hurting today's NBA players.. no one knows or cares
So the idea that social media is a harder environment is nonsense - players are sheltered more now than ever before.. I haven't seen twitter "take down" anyone

He'd have private jets and all the protective tools of today's players
MJ isn't the only gambler or womanizer in today's game... Wade almost went broke gambling and no one knew or gave a shit...
And the D'angelo Russell thing was as saucy as it gets... And.... No one cares... The guy was an all-star
Again, fake news.. the media going apeshit over.... nothing

Yep. It would require him to be much tougher mentally, and adapt to not getting to just do whatever he wants all the time.
Lebron is someone with the discipline to accept that and not allow it to deter his focus.
Not sure we could expect the same of ‘Or’an.

Again, fake news... Soft ass media projecting their softness on others... Shameful

Yep, yet another reason why Ordan would never cut it in this era. He was a walking controversy and he'd get slaughtered not only in todays game with the lack of a jump shot beyond some feet, but also todays media. Remember he already crumbled in his day because of what was basically nothing? Soft, just soft. Furthermore, 90s media portrayed him like he could walk on water, whereas in todays media people are real. They would call him out for his antics, and he wouldn't be able to handle it. I mean, don't get me started on Nick Wright. I feel privileged, honoured and humbled to see him go to work. Very knowledgeable analyst, who keeps it 100 everytime.

Seriously... We're acting like guys aren't drinking/getting high during the season these days? Millionaires have the tools to keep things private. MJ would have still gambled with his rich buddies and barely anything would have come out of it, same as in the 90s... Jordan was a psycho so I doubt he would have even been on Twitter, apart from one of his assistants running his account to promote his brand deals. Kobe had baggage and he did just fine in the social media era. Some players are just built differently. Not everyone's sitting on their phone & reading negative tweets all day like KD.

Each era has its own set of challenges. Does someone like Bill Russell even worry about what a stranger said to him online knowing the type of struggle he went through during his playing days?

BS. And I doubt you were even alive in the 80s and 90s so, so you know nothing about it. there is extensive coverage of bad Games, even regular-season bad games. I remember a few times where people thought Jordan, or bird, or magic was in a slump because they had a seven or eight "bad game stretch." They got plenty of pushback when it happened. For instance, Jordan got huge amount of negative push back in 92 when he got kicked out of the game after a triple overtime losing to the Jazz (based on a phantom foul against Jordan which won the Jazz the game). Commentators and newspapers were saying that was a poor attitude, and a bad look for the NBA when he went after the ref. It was right when it became clear that the Bulls season, as great as it was, was not going to likely to be a 70 season. Jordan got massive, massive negative media coverage in 1993 in the gambling allegations, and claim that he was golfing before playoff games. It was more negative pushback than I've seen to a modern player, possibly an exception for Lebron in 2011, for his meltdown in the championship. Interesting enough, Jordan never melted down like that despite the bad media coverage. I'm pretty sure Jordan was tough enough to deal with a few idiot Twitter posters.
Magic got accused of a choke job costing the Lakers a prime opportunity to win another championship, but somehow he came back from that bad media coverage and got four more championships in the 80s. But yes, some random Twitter and Instagram people would have surely overcome him. :facepalm
