Numbers released by the Labor Department indicated that the economy added 2.5 million jobs in May and the U.S. unemployment rate dropped to 13.3 percent from 14.7 percent a month earlier. This was a stark reversal from expectations that the unemployment rate could reach nearly 20 percent in May, and Trump took the opportunity to crow over the positive economic news.

And the DOW is up 800 points right now!

So you’re pretending not to grasp how that happens after record job losses right? The way he obviously is?

Debbie Downer, what is your point?

Cooked numbers. These jobs "added" weren't new jobs. They were mostly employers pulling back some employees to qualify for government assistance programs (e.g. ppp loans). The economy is still in horrible shape and 13% unemployment isn't anything to brag about in any case.

They are NOT supposed to be new jobs...its for people getting their old jobs back after the lockdown.

The real cooked numbers are the people refusing to go back to work because they get more from EDD than from working.

The whole point of the story was to show how jobs are coming back after the shutdown and these imbeciles manage to find a way to spin this negatively.

I'm not convinced. Once PPP runs out, these rehires could get laid off again. Furthermore, people are reading too much into this one report. There's a lot of margin for error.

Okay, so lets not be happy that the trend in unemployment numbers is starting to show a reversal. Some of you are so ridiculous...

I bet that half of these jobs are making deliveries for amazon at minimum wage, and the other half are security guards for corporations and wealty gated communities.

While the rich made out like bandits. Maybe the biggest transfer of wealth from taxpayers to billionaires in the history of US.

exactly .. the economy will bounce back and this is one sign .. it's going to be in much much better shape by election time .. they'll spin it somehow into that not being a positive though

With Trump I'm confident the economy will bounce back..even with blue states trying their hardest to collapse the economy.
