By having an opinion outside of your work environment. Does anyone find that insane?

It is not that hard to keep different, unpopular opinions within yourself and express them where they are more acceptable.

If they are not acceptable outside of your work environment, then where?

Oh, so you should hide with your opinion because sensitive lesbians will lynch you for that, got it.

It's insane. The worst are the people who don't stand by their opinions and end up apologizing when there's backlash. We can't let shit like this happen. A lot of people have recently been fired/deplatformed/cancelled for saying "rioting and looting is bad". THIS IS CRAZINESS

As someone who works in Social Services/Human Services - I don't want to work and will never work for an employer that will put my job at risk because of what I believe. While I'm not out there wearing it on my sleeve, it should never be something to be paranoid about if I ever wanted to.

Times are changing - there was a study that suggested people are turning down opportunities and ghosting employers/job opportunities now. While the job market is at its lowest, people will navigate themselves one way or around an employer, they truly do not want to work for. I've done it numerous times and not for political reasons.

I definitely think policing what people say has become a big issue. Do you guys support companies having the rights to fire people at their own discretion, though?

If it is work related, then there is no problem. But if I'm hanging out a bar and I'm having a conversation with a co-worker and I just blurt out, "You know, Bob, I hate f@gs", I shouldn't have to worry about Bob going back to my boss and telling him what I said and it resulting in me getting fired. First of all, it's my opinion and I'm entitled to it. And it was said outside of the work place.

USA has some of the worst first world labor laws in the world. Over in Europe, you need to build a case, give warnings, give second chances there's a whole process to firing somebody.

Here it is completely at the employers will and can even be for no reason layoffs.

Being homophobic isn't an opinion. It's just an admission of discrimination.

I agree with this. Gotta protect workers.

We need major labor reform. The fact that you won't get paid out sick/vacation days if you quit is beyond me. The fact that it does not roll over, is also stupid.

The worst is when they'll fire you over something that's posted on your social media accounts. Personally, as long as it's not something illegal, I think you should be able to post whatever the fck you want on there with no repercussions, it's your account and it has absolutely nothing to do with your job. But I've heard of people literally being fired over stupid shit ranging from a post they might've made years earlier, to even having photos of them holding an alcoholic drink. The employer yields way too much power in the US, and you can lose your job over almost nothing

That's semi true. There are instances that lead to release instead of firing. No warning in case of release, but the catalogue on it is strict and you have to commit some extraordinary misconduct. Like staying away from work without notice etc.

Hating on **** in a bar isn't in that catalogue unless it destroys the companies rep.

I hire and welcome all opinions. If you bully others into your opinion I have no problems addressing it and giving people their slips. The atmosphere in my company is extremely positive and high energy. Even taken to account what they express on FB and IG. I have no problems with it

You think that's bad? :oldlol:

They're going to have you tracked and chipped like an endangered species soon. With your every movement monitored.

Employers are in bed with government. We have no rights. Society is about to devolve into a dystopian technocracy and the masses are going along with it willingly.

Who is to say and judge which opinions are different and unpopular.

And are you not allowed to be different and say what you mean, even though it's not popular?

I thought this was the age of tolerance and inclusion?

A dumbass racist like you should be happy staying anonymous. Have a burner account for your racist/pedophilic ramblings and you'll be good

I'm all for having different opinions. You have the right to offend whoever you want, but keep it anonymous in case it comes back to you.

On the flipside when I hire I definitely look through social. I got to see if they vibe with my team.
