Now keep in mind this isn't just a "who was the best PG, who was the best SG" etc... thread... and it's not a who was the best at their peak thread either... look at their entire careers... think of who would fit together best on the court to produce the best result for their careers...

So while some players might be better individually than others, that might not yield the best result on the court. These are NOT necessarily the guys that I have as the best at their position all time... and sometimes far from it.

Here's what mine looks like, off the top of my head...

PG: Stephen Curry
SG: Klay Thompson
SF: Scottie Pippen
PF: Kevin Garnett
C: Bill Russell

I flirted with... Stockton instead of Curry... Jordan instead of Klay... and Rodman or Duncan in place of Garnett...

But yeah... I think that's the team I'd most like to see together on a court as of this moment. It is subject to change given my current feelings.

When we had an InsideHoops whatifsports.com all time draft. That was my exact team except I had Joakim Noah instead of Bill Russell. Bill Russell wasn’t available. But it was the best team by far according to their simulations. Destroyed the 1992 dream team most of the time too.

Another interesting line up is trading out Bill Russell for Larry Bird.

Curry
Thompson
Pippen
Bird
KG

You get a big bump in spacing and offense here. But obviously a huge dip in defense too when removing one of the goat defenders. But if anyone can fill his shoes it’s KG. Overall this lineup I think is better.

And basketball fit is one thing but MJ is just so much more talented then Thompson, realistically you go with MJ over him.

High IQ recognizes high IQ.

I can feel this lineup, but ultimately I can't part from Russell.

And as far as MJ goes... the reason I can't do that is because of Klay's shooting, even if it is streaky both ways at times. Klay is a far lesser disruption to your offense than MJ... I'm not saying MJ wasn't a team player, he clearly was. He wasn't ultra ball dominant. But Klay is a more willing passer and he's going to fit into your overall team offense better. Between that and him being an extremely better shooter, I had to go with Klay.

1966-1968 Philly Wilt might be the perfect team-oriented center

Gives you 24 points 24 rebounds with 8 assists a night shooting 64% FG

Probably blocks 4-5 shots a night too.

I understand not wanting to part ways with Russell due to his goat intangibles and leadership however I felt a team with Bird, KG, Curry could absorb that. We are really splitting hairs at this point though.

Nice! That team was built really nicely and the simulation loved it apparently.

I thought the sim shafted your Muscle Hunks a bit. That was not a team you would want to see in the playoffs.

Remember budaddi’s team the 39 Yankees or some shit? He had like Yao Ming and Elgin Baylor. Literally the worst team ever.

Klay is the best shooter ever at shooting guard, knows his role, doesn't require high usage. That's why I picked him because the offense is all about Kawhi

Jordan, Kobe, Wade, Harden, Drexler still run laps around Klay as a player. I'm just looking at fit next to Kawhi offense. I want Kawhi's usage 33-35% range and the rest Duncan post ups. I want strictly shooting and not high usage.

Damn, I thought you hated Klay. :oldlol:

He will benefit a lot from being a third or fourth option. He just isn’t reliable enough to be a legit second option. There’s enough ball handling so his poor handling and passing gets hidden. He’s a great fit for the team.

It's because of the value of shooting and the problems it creates. Jordan wasn't a good shooter so you hesitate when you know you're going to need to make a lot of threes to keep up with the other builds.

Also you know MJ is not going to whip the ball around to the open guy. He's going to isolate over and over again. Etc. And against superstars that move the ball well he's going to get destroyed.

Center: Tim Duncan because he always was one and the PF thing always annoyed me. Pop loves to troll.
PF: Kevin Garnett. There is nothing you want from a 4 that he wasn't great at andwith the rest of the team being who they are it's good to have a less-selfish guy when it comes to shots.
SF: Paul Pierce. Because he wouldn't get mentioned in this thread otherwise...and he's not a weakness. I can get away with it.
SG: MJ
PG: Chauncey Billups. Defends well, smart, and clutch which is what this team would want from their guard.
