View Full Version : With all this stuff going on, to some it’s like it doesn’t exist

I talked to my friend today. He’s a smart guy but has no idea with what’s going on with all these protests. He thought it was just for a few days in a couple cities and that people aren’t working so they’re bored. He doesn’t watch Fox News or CNN, he just reads the local stuff.

And so when i told him about how CNN says Trump is racist and Fox says the corona is a tactic, he doesn’t know what I’m talking about. And he said that democrats are not the only ones at protests, but also republicans and independents. I told him the right thinks that this is all tactics to make Trump look bad. But he doesn’t know what I’m talking about.

He can tell me what the stocks are, he can tell me all about history. But all this stuff that CNN says and Fox says, he has no idea what I’m talking about.

That’s funny because on social media you just see republicans and democrats fighting and one side says the other is racist and the other side says it’s all about control. My friend has no idea what I’m talking about when I say the word control.

But not everyone watches mainstream news. A lot of this stuff we see doesn’t exist in the minds of others. Some people only have a vague idea with what’s going on but they can tell you more about what’s going on locally.

This left vs right drama doesn’t exist to everyone. The news has conditioned us to think that we know everything by staying tuned in. But there are some people that don’t engage in it and when you have a conversation with them, you feel dumb like you wasted so much time.

Turning off your TV's is actually good for your health. Fake and divisive news is everywhere. You'd think American society has been at each other's throats the last 50 years the way the media portrays the current state of relations between the races, between police, government, etc.

I remember a couple of years ago reading about how Michael Jordan never concerned himself with the Rodney King drama, and it completely made sense to me. His whole life, his whole focus was on the game of basketball, and he wasn't getting caught up, wasting his life, manipulated into random talking points of one side or another.

This is different than the other extreme that I mentioned in another thread, a teenage girl who didn't know about the 2004 tsunami due to simplistic problems of focus.

For the record this is an example of the type of girl that I was referring to. This is after Trayvon had been dead and the biggest news on television for over a year.
