View Full Version : Austin Rivers: I love Kyrie's passion, but not at the expense of the whole NBA.

Agree 100% with baby Rivers, and not just because we all selfishly want basketball back. As I said yesterday in those threads, Kyrie's idiocy is risking the livelihood of the 70%+ of the NBA that actually doesn't wanna lose their contracts. It's a way bigger stage to make a statement when play is resumed than for Kyrie to go in the streets and protest.

Plus I don't think the league wants to lose momentum after a great regular season build up. It would be so anti-climatic and they would no doubt lose fans.

We have the most balance the NBA has EVER seen. You have 3 or 4 teams in each conference with title hopes (although realistically it's maybe 4-5 teams TOTAL that could even win it)... and a bunch of middle seed teams like Dallas, OKC, Hou, Miami, Utah, Indiana that could surprise a top seed potentially. The league has never been better positioned for the future. In Kyrie's words though, he's willing to throw it all away in the name of social justice. Wonder if the guys who have just 1-5 million in career earnings feel that way?

A smart, level-headed take -- I agree with him.

Those guys on the minimum contracts will lose out big time if play does not resume.

They tend to only have a few years shelf life in the NBA. One year of $898,310 can change someone's life, forever.

Kyrie seething that Dinwiddie single handedly led a team to the playoffs that he couldn't even accomplish 5 seasons in Cleveland

There is no buildup. Coronavirus and BLM protests have America’s utmost attention right now. The last thing on the majority of people’s minds is a game played with a basket and ball.

And Austin Rivers is wrong. The majority of American NBA fans are white, not black. As African American players, it wouldn’t feel right to be forced into a quarantined environment for three months for the entertainment of a majority Caucasian fan base while a greater cause like the BLM protests are taking place.

So it will come down to if African Americans value their moral values or money at the expense of racial injustice. Just remember everyone is empowered to make their own choice. Just don’t take the money and then later bitch about social injustices. Those that do are the real hypocrites.

There’s a reason Kaepernick is more respected human being than LeBron James.
Maybe Ingraham was right when she told LeBron to just shut up and dribble. He’s doing exactly what she wants

Sorry, did the regular season officially end? Did the playoffs ever start? Technically, no he hasn’t. Are you retarded? Or just a closet LeBron f4g?

I don't think that playing for a majority-white audience hurts the BLM protests, or prevents players from being activists.

Don't play :confusedshrug: a ton of people want your spot in the NBA. There's some young guard in the D league who hasn't had the right chance to show his stuff. Every year someone comes out of nowhere and makes their name, as soon as they get the chance.

Kyrie is telling these guys that giving up that chance is empowering. I bet they disagree.

Things have surely changed for him and that team by having the tables turned after the acquisition of ad

Nope, it changed when we were 4th seed for half the season last year before injuries piled up

So he's only brought them up to 4th seed only? Lmao :oldlol:

Regardless, it seems irrelevant since with ad, the lakers having the 1st seed for the first time in 10 years became a possibility.

Its already well known that Irving has some type of mental disorder, he shouldn't be leading any groups.

Doc Rivers is a coach, which also means he is management. This is like the son of the foreman at a coal mining operation complaining that the workers are refusing to spend their tokens at the company store (hint -- ESPN/ABC is owned by Disney). Literally the first sentence in there was about the money, lol. The players are likely not in game shape at all so they not only come back risking injury but also come back risking getting a deadly disease that could kill them. Kyrie is right.

You have a point but the ends do not justify the means. All in all it is still “dirty money” coming from a system of patriarchal racism. Accepting that money would be making them complicit in the system of inequality. It’s a difficult choice for a difficult time, but the time is now for a change.

Kyries team is not full strength and wants to wait out the season to come back even better. This has nothing to do with BLM.. its about having so much money u can punt the season. If someone like James harden Kawhi Paul george came out saying they diidnt wanna play there would be more weight but it screams ego and personal reasons unrelated to other factors.

I'm inclined to agree. Mad respect to Dwight Howard saying it, because he's actually in position to win a ring. I believe Dwight legit is willing to sacrifice a ring if it brings societal change, which is admirable and should be applauded. Kyrie though? Hard to take dude seriously given his history and the fact that he and Durant aren't going to be playing anyways.

Dwight Howard

Those guys scream ego and personal factors too? Yeah that’s what I thought. Now go crawl back into the hole you came out from.
