Would Isiah now days have an excellent case in this what-if to be considered at least a top-two point guard off all time.
Let's say Bird does not make that steal at the end of game 5 of the 1987 ecf. And the pistons now close them out in 6 at home to move on to the finals where they would face the Lakers and upset them in 6 or 7 games.
And the next year they don't get robbed by a phantom foul call on Bill Laimbeer in Game 6 vs the Lakers which cost them the title that year.
With B2b titles by 88, the Pistons still in this scenario win the title in 1989 and 1990 to cap off the greatest modern-day dynasty in Nba history
It's Likely; the Pistons are no longer considered the bridge between the Lakers/Celtics rivalry and the Bulls dynasty and instead in their own right viewed as the best dynasty from since the merger up to the current day.
Where would you rank It all time if he had led the pistons to a four-peat would you put him in your top 15 and top 3 points guards off all time
Also, it is basically guaranteed in this scenario that Bill Laimbeer is elected to the NBA's hall of fame.
So now as a result of Detriot winning four in a row Magic now has three compared to Isiah's four rings and Isiah would have been 3,0 against him in the Finals. Kareem also now has four rings would your ranking of Kareem and Magic change if they now both had 4 and 3 rings each And a losing record in the finals as a result of Detriot beating them three straight times in the finals.

Too many variables to make this a topic.
What happens if Fisher doesn't hit "the shot" and Manu doesn't foul Dirk in '06 - how would a 5 peat change Duncans legacy?

Isiah as the leader of the team gets three finals MVPs in 87 and 88 and 90 which would be more than Magic and every point guard of all time. He would also be the only modern-day team leader to achieve the most impossible feat in the sport which is four-peating.
Would there be Isiah is better then Magic debates if he had beaten him three straight times in the finals and four peated while winning the finals MVP in three of the rings or would Isiah early career and late-career hold him back from ever being considered better then Magic?

Duncan is likely viewed as a top 3 player off all-time with a serious case to be the Goat and he would be the undisputed best player from 2000 to 2020 with LeBron now being second to him. five peating in the modern is a feat that no other player could ever match and if he wins the finals MVP in four of them Duncan now has 7 rings and five finals MVP's along with two MVPs.

Isiah around where Hakeem is all-time then? Isiah wouldn't have the MVP or longevity but four consecutive rings as the best player would be give him in a big boost. As it stands now, he is around 20th, so going up 8-10 spots is not unreasonable under this scenario, unless the ranker in question places a lot of weight on longevity.
Rodman maybe gets a small boost. He would have 7 rings in this scenario. I don't think it would change much for Dumars.
Kareem also now has four rings would your ranking of Kareem and Magic change if they now both had 4 and 3 rings each And a losing record in the finals as a result of Detriot beating them three straight times in the finals.
Not for me and probably not on expert all-time lists but a lot of fans would view them differently. Maybe Bird goes ahead of Magic more than vice versa among fans.

At the time perhaps but it wouldn't last. Magic won 3 MVP's; Isiah recorded one top 5 MVP finish (5th in 84') and had as many all-NBA 1st teams as Magic MVP's. Different weight classes of players.

I think it could've had a ripple affect altering how the 90s played out. E.g. if the Pistons 4peat then perhaps Jordan doesn't retire in '93 and attempts to 5peat... what if CHI gets to 4x but loses the 5th attempt? Does 4x ending with a Finals loss in yr 5 enhance or diminish Jordan's legacy?

His reasons for retirement largely were non-basketball reasons but I can see him saying if Detroit got to 4, let's try to get to 4 or 5 to equal or surpass them. However, if he doesn't take 2 seasons off that wear and tear likely would cause him to be worse (especially if he started accruing injuries like his peers did those years, except Malone) than he was in the later 90's so maybe there is no net shift in titles.
For today's fans, yeah, 4-1 is worse than 4-0. It is lunacy but here we are.

Duncan 5 Peating? :oldlol:
He’s never even repeated to defend the crown, even once. Vulture champs.

If they managed to do all that, then they'd be one of the greatest team of all time. Isiah would be ranked near top 10 GOAT.
And deservedly so, because that is A LOT of what ifs.
