Why does he only have 4 more FMVP votes than me?

The same reason you had idiots on air declaring the Warriors were finished against the Rockets when Durant got injured.

Not just 5 Finals, but 5 straight Finals, all as the favorite, all in his prime, barely came away with more FMVP votes than Fred VanVleet

You're right. Excellent reason to think the FMVP award is trash even without all the stories about it being handed out for reasons having nothing to do with basketball.

Yep, look at the last decade or so of winners

Kobe 2x
Dirk
LeBron 3x
Kawhi 2x
Iggy
Durant 2x

That is a trash list of players

Being on the winning championship team whittles down the choices. That's the true value there. Even with nearly all the work done for the voters by the actual winners they still get it wrong. Why do you think the process hasn't veered away to pick an awardee not on the winning team since its disastrous first one?

To be fair, 2016 is really the only black mark in terms of FMVP. He deserved it in 2015, it was a travesty that they gave it to ****ing Iggy.

Then in 2017-2018, KD vultured them by playing way better in the finals than he did in the earlier rounds against an awful defensive team.

2019 his whole team got injured, I suppose this could be viewed as a black mark too but he played relatively well all things considered.

it is quite unusual to be labelled a superstar and not have one in five attempts, even Billups and Pierce have one. i'm sure if steve nash played in 5 finals he'd at minimum 3 fmvps. some players just depreciate when the pressure is on, Stephen Curry relies heavily on his teammates putting in trench work for him to be successful individually. screens, rebounding, defense.
