One of my friends' mom earned a living by stapling calendars day and night for 2 pennies each when they just arrived in the US. 5 of them shared a single bedroom in an 2-bedroom apartment that they shared with another family. Years later, the mom became a manicurist.

After seeing her mom giving a lady a pedicure, my friend vowed to work hard to never see that happen again. Now she's a dentist and her 3 siblings are doctor, pharmacist and lawyer. Their mom can now enjoy retirement without worrying about money.

Her life story makes me feel ashamed. 😅
