View Full Version : Why does the NBA lack diversity?

It always has but there are many great players that come from Europe. Why has the NBA always been primarily black? There’s nothing wrong with that but why has there always been so much disparity?

This may sound silly. But why isn’t anyone ever complaining about the lack of diversity? I’m also talking about asian players. Jeremy Lin is the best asian guard to ever play? There isn’t one player in the world that can’t play in the NBA?

It wouldn’t be a bad look to have more asian players. Also where are the Indian players? Mexican players? It’s not just about white players, but all ethnicities.

because the diversity they talk about has nothing to do with diversity .. it's only about being less .. white

The NFL is also predominantly black, and other sports like hockey, golf & tennis have even less diversity

Sports, where the objective is to be the best team not show how woke you are has low diversity?

it is pretty crazy that there are billions of asians and indians in the world, and yet not even 1 can make the NBA?

there are differences between people.

thats because you have to be rich to have played those sports growing up. i knew some hockey kids and they were all from wealthy towns. golf and tennis is even more posh.

It's true, we lower standards to allow for diversity when it comes to college admission, employment etc. but not for sports?

Great thread OP

European White players have surpassed American White players - I don't know but it seems like there might be more of them numerically in the NBA? Mexican's in general aren't very tall. Indians in general aren't that tall and very few are active in constant movement sports. Taller Asians aren't killing it in the Olympics with speed and coordination sports. In sports in general its just about exposure and natural talents/gifts. American's don't play soccer as much as other countries do. Africans are going to be a large part of the NBA soon as they are getting exposed to it more often.

NBA needs more Latino players. We need more players to look up to other than Eduardo Najera.

Where is the diversity on BET?
Where is the diversity on Tyler Perry's movies?

I do find it interesting how African American player numbers in Major League Baseball have been dwindling and there are discussions on what the sport could do to bring them back. But in the NBA you don’t hear the same conversations on what they could do to bring in more white American players.
