Embiid and Giannis are supposed to be the two most intimidating big men in the NBA. But when it comes to closeout games, its Kawhi Leonard who suddenly turns into prime Shaq on the offensive rebounds. 3peat Lakers Shaq averaged 4.8 offensive rebounds per game. Kawhi is averaging 4 offensive rebounds a game in closeout games vs Embiid and Giannis

Game 7 2nd round: 4 offensive rebounds
Game 6 ECF: 4 offensive rebounds

Offensive rebounds are an underrated stat, anyone who's actually played the sport can tell you getting a gimme uncontested defensive rebound is nothing like getting offensive boards consistently. You gotta work your ass off to get offensive boards.

Exactly, especially in closeout games vs Embiid/Giannis. Kawhi had multiple offensive rebounds late in 4th quarters as well, even one off his own freethrow. His length, hand size, strength made him a monster on the offensive glass in the biggest moments.

Another thing that makes 2011 Dirk playoff run overrated, he had a 1.8 offensive rebound % to Tyson Chandler's 14.6 offensive rebound %

Kawhi has to score like Dirk, defend Giannis and also anchor his team on the rebounds because Marc Gasol is soft as shit on the boards. So much more work Kawhi had to do.

It's just too bad that knee soreness prevented Leonard from grabbing ONE rebound in the end of the fourth quarter, Game 6 of 2013 Finals, when Popovich benched Duncan.
:whatever:
Up till that point, he was grabbing everything.

and his rebounding numbers in general arent gaudy at all... the guy simply comes through when it matters most. anti-statpadder.

i remember even baby kawhi with the spurs was doing stuff like that in the finals.

On well, who the hell wants to see a Danny Green finals MVP anyway. Kawhi was never given a chance back then because the big 3. Once the big 3 let Kawhi the BIG DOG off the leach in 2014 finals? Kawhi led spurs in VORP during finals of biggest winning series in finals history. Since that time, kawhi team when healthy has never had an inferior offensive rating in a playoff series. Give Kawhi the ball.

One last thing about rebounds, game 6 2019 finals Curry shoots last second shot end of game missed and warriors go crashing for an offensive rebound but guess who kept warriors away from the offensive rebounds? Kawhi Leonard he kept going after the ball and forced it out of bounds to seal the title. Go watch the final seconds of game 6 2019 finals curry's final shot was attempted rebounded for an Horry/Ray Allen attempt but Kawhi denied and declined it.
